Surrey vs Derbyshire lv county championship
Surrey have named a thirteen man squad for the LV=County Championship match against Derbyshire at the Kia Oval starting on Thursday.
Fast bowler George Edwards is named in a Championship squad for the first time this season and the Pemberton Greenish Academy batsman Dominic Sibley is also included.
Jade Dernbach is unavailable due to his selection in the England squad for the two NatWest International T20 games against Australia. Gary Wilson’s inclusion in the Ireland squad for the ODI against England does not allow him to be available for the entirety of the game against Derbyshire and because of this he is not named in the thirteen man squad.

Rory Burns
Tom Curran
Steven Davies
Zander De Bruyn

Hi Guildford - yes, dire from winning the toss on day 1. Wasn't even a stubborn backs-to-the-wall recovery. In the interview after the match Barnes sounded a beaten man.
I hope at least that you had a good holiday!

On the test match threads I dutifully went into bat (again) on the line that Tremlett wasn't ready for selection for England. He then backed up the point by taking 8 wickets in an innings for Surrey! (All the other Surrey bowlers were of course c**p on a pitch helpful to bowlers)

So three youngsters fighting it out for one spot - other than that it's the same team that out up such a good fight at Durham! Why does Roy not get a chance in the CC?

Thanks for the update on the eleven, JimBob.
The Brain will surely have to deliver something in this match to keep his place.

A good morning so far for Surrey. Derbys 39-2 with Slater and Madsen back in the hutch. A wicket each for Tremlett and Edwards (playing his first CC match of this season). One more before lunch please ....

Saw that. Thanks, Corporal. You casted my proxy vote well. With the Surrey batsmen also largely being c**p, Tremlett had the further advantage at Durham of only needing to bowl for one innings!!Corporalhumblebucket wrote:On the test match threads I dutifully went into bat (again) on the line that Tremlett wasn't ready for selection for England. Re: Surrey vs Derbyshire lv county championship
So far, 5 overs with a return of 0-19. Not the worst analysis of the season but yet again an indifferent one releasing pressure on the batsmen. That pressure had largely been imposed by 'Chicken'* George Edwards with three wickets in his two spells before and after lunch. A wicket each as well for Tremlett and the ever deserving Linley.Corporalhumblebucket wrote:How many overs will the Brain bowl today?
Derbys currently 142-5. Ours to chuck away at this stage ....
* Took me a while to understand the constant calls of 'Chick' to Edwards during a recent seconds' match.

219 all out - excellent bowling performance. Now we just need the batsmen to get more than 69 to avoid the follow-on!

Re: Surrey vs Derbyshire lv county championship
Derbys 219 all out. Good team bowling performance. 4 for the Viscount and 3 for Edwards with one each for Tremlett, Batty and Ansari. All pretty economical too.
Our advantage for sure but we all know that we can still blow it from here. 4 overs to bat out tonight ....

No wickets lost.....
Sounds like a disciplined performance. Maybe it's a pitch that needs a lot of patience. We do need some batting points - but priority has to be to get some sort of decent lead.
I'm thinking that Ansari having a decent bowl today is the reason why the Brain didn't get many overs.

Corporal - also, the Viscount did a lot of legwork. He was into his 25th over when Derbys were all out.Corporalhumblebucket wrote:

Trying not to get too carried away, 3 batting points and a first innings lead of 120 would be very acceptable.
Concerning though - as JimBob and you flag above - that Somerset seem to be finding form. I don't expect an easy ride when we travel to Taunton in a couple of weeks.

The cricinfo article on the days play says of the Viscount: "Rarely has a bowler worn the tag of workhouse as proudly, ever willing to steam in, tumble and appeal exuberantly for the cause."guildfordbat wrote:

Re: Surrey vs Derbyshire lv county championship
Hi Corporal - I'm at home today but haven't had a chance to listen so far. Will try and catch the last half hour before lunch.
I believe the cricinfo article commented that the wicket was expected to particularly deteriorate on the third day (when I'm going). If Stewie and Barnes felt the same, Keedy must be miles out of the picture. I'm not saying it's wrong to leave him out but it certainly suggests his signing was at best very questionable, particularly with another year on his contract to run.

And now Solanki gets the first individual 50 of the match. He's often looked stylish when I've seen him this season but has never really kicked on when it's mattered. Can he today? If he can, that lead of 120 could be back on the cards.Corporalhumblebucket wrote:The Brain and Solanki bring up the first 50 partnership of the match.
Heard Chuchy's Radio Derbys co-commentator say earlier that he looked at the wicket at lunchtime and described it as very dry and rough in parts. All sounds encouraging for us bowling tomorrow but we've been there before, haven't we?!

Solanki bowled for 93 via inside edge then trickled back off his boot... Good innings
Davies has gone right into his shell - need him to get some runs otherwise the tail might fizzle out for nothing very much.

220 - 5 at tea. A lead of 1 run.
Important innings for Ansari. His first class average is under 19 and he needs to be bettering that in this innings.

Davies gifts his wicket - pulling short ball to short mid wicket. At 240 -6 lead is just 21.

Ansari may need to up the pace a bit, or the Viscount will need to hang around. But as I write the Viscount bowled first ball....
