First topic message reminder :

Thought I'd start a thread to discuss next weeks game.

ENGLAND

England head coach Stuart Lancaster has kept faith with the side which lost to France and named an unchanged line-up for Saturday's match against Scotland.
Gloucester's Jonny May starts on the wing despite breaking his nose nine minutes into the 26-24 loss in Paris.
Courtney Lawes will be in the second row after his cheekbone bruising eased, while Danny Care and Owen Farrell form the half-back partnership.
"They're determined to put last week's result behind them," said Lancaster.
England will be hoping to avoid a third successive Test defeat, having lost to New Zealand in the autumn and France in the opening weekend of the Six Nations.
Scotland, however, were well beaten by Ireland on Sunday have not prevailed in the Calcutta Cup since their 15-9 win at Murrayfield in 2008.
"Scotland will be hugely motivated by their defeat in Dublin and, as we found two years ago, Murrayfield is a tough place to play," added Lancaster, who began his England reign with a 13-6 win against Scotland in 2012.
May is not expected to wear a protective face mask when he wins his third cap in Edinburgh.
Luther Burrell, who scored on his debut at the Stade de France, will make his second Test appearance at centre, while Jack Nowell takes up the right-wing spot for what will also be his second cap.
Wasps prop Matt Mullan will travel as the 24th man.

England XI v Scotland: Mike Brown (Harlequins, 22 caps), Jack Nowell (Exeter Chiefs, 1 cap), Luther Burrell (Northampton Saints, 1 cap), Billy Twelvetrees (Gloucester Rugby, 9 caps), Jonny May (Gloucester Rugby, 2 caps), Owen Farrell (Saracens, 20 caps), Danny Care (Harlequins, 43 caps), Joe Marler (Harlequins, 16 caps), Dylan Hartley (Northampton Saints, 51 caps), Dan Cole (Leicester Tigers, 44 caps), Joe Launchbury (London Wasps, 15 caps), Courtney Lawes (Northampton Saints, 26 caps), Tom Wood (Northampton Saints, 24 caps), Chris Robshaw (Harlequins, capt, 21 caps), Billy Vunipola (Saracens, 6 caps)
Replacements: Tom Youngs (Leicester Tigers, 13 caps), Mako Vunipola (Saracens, 11 caps), Henry Thomas (Sale Sharks, 2 caps), Dave Attwood (Bath Rugby, 6 caps), Ben Morgan (Gloucester Rugby, 16 caps), Lee Dickson (Northampton Saints, 13 caps), Brad Barritt (Saracens, 17 caps), Alex Goode (Saracens, 14 caps)

Paul Hayward in the Telegraph doesn't feel inclined to look at what Scotland needs to get their team firing competitively again (Vern Cotter, etc for example) but instead just decides to insult an entire nation by saying it doesn't even deserve to be in the great competition.

Nice winning mentality, Paul  - graceful Smile He's careful to cover himself and say it isn't "English Arrogance" talking.  But yes, Paul - it very much is.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/rugbyunion/international/sixnations/10627088/Six-Nations-2014-Scotland-are-not-fit-to-be-a-part-of-this-great-tournament.html

Some English may feel that way Fly (Paul for instance) but not all of us.  Erm

Oh I appreciate that, stub. I appreciate that in the old HEC debate too. Not all English think like Hayward. But the ones that do.............. it's just this absolute belief that somehow they have a right to decide on the contribution of others.

Yes, deciding to generalise about the English based on the views of one journalist is unfortunately only going to take this thread in one direction.

It takes an entire newspaper network (and I'm sure lawyer proofreaders these days Wink - editor and other sub-editors to allow a journalist to put such a waspish, uneeded Public opinion piece at the tail end of a game England won comfortably. Uncalled for, not needed, not gaceful in victory and no, I won't be apologising for mentioning a published article in a public forum.

I said what I thought of it and clarified I didn't mean the whole English Nation - now can Hayward say the same?

To be fair someones already played the race card and decided that Burrell isnt English because hes black. Its gone uphill from there.

Perhaps we could get it livened up by discussing THAT Ferris tackle.

Being ever so slightly serious for once, one thing that I noticed that doesnt seem to have been mentioned yet about 36. He was doing a lot of work as a dummy runner when england did have the ball.

First off, congratulations England.  Well deserved win.  I honestly don’t think you got out of first gear and still thumped us.  A lot of folk on here are complaining that England should have won by more, but in reality you only needed to win the game, we were terrible and there was no reason for the English players to push on and try and rack up the tries when the job was already done.  They sensibly took it easy and didn’t risk getting injuries etc, because there was no way we were coming back into the match.

As for the pitch, yes it was/is shocking, we all know this.  Can we move on?  We’ve had a freak parasite infestation and the SRU are going to resolve this problem in the summer by installing a hybrid system.  it would have been nice to get this resolved before the 6 nations, but the ground staff must have thought they could sort it beforehand.  Clearly that didn’t work.

As for Scotland, I think that was as poor a performance as I’ve seen us put in for a long time (again taking nothing away from England).  There didn’t appear to be any desire to win, and for SJ to come out and say that the tactics were right, well the man is just a clown.  He picked a poor side (which I think most of us called out before the game) his tactics were way off and his subbing of Ford 1 min into the 2nd half was baffling, it’s like he was being sent out as a scapegoat and visibly punished.  Not that I don’t think Ford should have been taken off, he shouldn’t have started in the first place, but surely the less cruel approach of him being replaced at HT would have made more sense.

I still hope the SRU see sense and ditch Johnson and the rest of his coaching team, rather than letting him take over as DoR.  I still have no idea how he has warranted this promotion.

To me and many others we look the best since those heady days.

Possibly i am.

Dont get me wrong i have seen big improvements and i have applauded that, and maybe im not giving enough credit to France etc who have some truly class players.

I thought the likes of Nowell played very well and maybe we played to the conditions but i would just like to see us a little more efficient / clinical after 2 and a bit years of Lancasters reign. And i do appreciate injuries etc havent helped the situations and im not calling for Lancs head either.

See what happens for the remaining games.

I don't know if it's been posted already but I just read Ross Ford's match summary in The Times. It began with 'A big lump of uselessness' and ended with '2/10'.

Ouch. I fear he may have got off lightly compared to the Scottish papers.

I heard the England squad didn't hang around in Scotland after the match. Apparently they jumped on a plane and went home. Was it something Scotland said that upset them?
