Mayorga has tweeted that they're in talks Wheels, can imagine Mayorga being willing to take a small percentage to get this fight.

He's also a Welterweight/LMW who will have to be a bit overweight.

To be fair he weirdly quit apparently with a hurt hand in the final round. He never actually looked like being knocked out.

In fairness, hes probably the highest rated challenger who is willing to move weight divisions to fight in Oakland for free.

Making a big statement with this fight is J-Zee.

So do you think the fans of Ward, who didn't like it when people said he isn't pushing himself anymore in a previous thread, will defend this or accept that this is a really poor fight?

Come on now people. Mayorga is unbeaten in 4 years, with a 100% knock out ratio in that time. He's a late developer and at 41 he's just coming into his prime.

The son of god will get crucified for this.

I seen a certain email from Roc Nation to Eddie Hearn about a possible matchup.....wasn't Mayorga though

Was hopping it would be Tommy Oosthuizen. After two years of alcoholism, and relationship drama, and falling of bicycles. Tommy Gun is back would have given an interesting challenge to Ward. Certainly, Ward has rarely been in the ring with someone who would be bigger, stronger , and faster than him, at least handspeed wise, in the ring. Hell, if Tommy had more decisive power it would be a 50-50.

Mayorga is a good fight to get back into the running of things for Ward.

He has been out a while as we all know and could have taken an easier opponent

Would've been surprised if Tommy Gun would've taken this fight TBH. He's fat and lazy, and couldn't make 168.

To be fair, all I've seen of this so far is Mayorga tweeting that he wants it and is "in talks." And as we all know, anything Mayorga says can be taken with a pinch of salt. Think I'll take that option for the time being on this 'rumour' as well.

Or maybe I just don't want to believe that Ward and Roc Nation could even be half-contemplating possibly thinking about becoming semi-interested in a fight as utterly cack, hand-picked, meaningless and unwarranted as this.

If Ward does go down this route then he's going to be viewed with even more disdain than he is currently. Didn't think that possible, but then again a lot of things amaze me each day. Namely Ed Balls, not in a good way either.

It's one thing to have a tune up fight against a Bika sort of opponent, it's another to fight a guy who smokes more than I do and has had one memorable win since the early 2000s against the juiced up and big hype job Vargas.

Leonard spends how long out the ring yet faces Hagler. Ward, whose skills I rate immensely, goes down this route?!

There's a huge difference between a warm up fight, and fighting a guy who is 41 and hasn't won a meaningful fight for a decade.

If this fight happens and I highly doubt it does it is the type of fight that has always happened and will continue to always happen, we may want a more exciting match up but when GGG fighting Monroe is being bigged up it's ridiculous to slate this so much.

hmm really?. he has fought everyone there is to fight in this division... it was not long ago people were thinking that he has to go up a weight in order to find someone to fight... Now after a year out he gets him self an average opponent to get things going again and its a joke?

He is arguably the best P4P fighter there is... who you want to see him fight?

Ok Mayorga is old, but very experienced and has proven to be tough, Ward will win, I dont think that is in question but why jump in with a live opponent and risk getting caught rusty?? previous to this fight pretty much his last 7 fights have been against the elite in the division of very good fringe opposition... I think its a smart move, get back in the ring, shake off the cobwebs, then go for a big showdown with Froch or GGG... who he will beat.

It may always happen but don't try making this fight out to be anything other than a sham Tunes.

Yeah but your bias opinion does not hold water mate, they are three highly ranked fighters one of which undefeated and ranked, 2,2,3,4. If your looking for a warm up fight after being out for a year in a half then you dont jump in with a top three fighter.. its not a case of winning as he more than likely would, it a case of working on performance, and an easy fight, that's what it is...

They would not be easy fights, he would win because he is one of the best of our Gen.
