First topic message reminder :

The IBF have stripped Yoan Pablo Hernandez of his title and made Victor Ramirez full champ.

His first defense will be against 'The Upsetter' Ovil McKenzie. Who has never tasted defeat at cruiser.

Could he live up to his moniker? I'll hold my hands up and say I havent seen Ramirez fight so am not sure what sort of chance he has?

I don't forget about anything Truss, but as I mentioned I am yet to see any compelling evidence to suggest or prove day before weigh ins have reduced serious injuries in the sport. If such evidence existed I'd favour weigh ins on the day before.

In my opinion If you are in a semi dehydrated state then your body isn't going to be in the best condition to ward off injury...

There are lots of things we can't prove or disprove to an nth degree.

Bit like Parkinson's and Boxing ..

Yep, divisions of Lamont Peterson's is what we need.

What a strange post

Not really.

Maybe your blind jingoism prevented you from reading what Pedro was saying.

Bit disappointed in this thread to be honest, a lot of you slagging off Ovil for taking this fight instead of looking at Ramiraz and/or blaming the federation itself.

As i've always argued against, if you let the champions get away with soft defences then you can't complain when fights like this happen, with more belts, more money there's more chance of it happening unless we as fans don't accept it at all.

It's useless looking to the past and stating well it wasn't done that way then, every sport must move on and this includes boxing.

The federations SHOULD not be based in America (or the UK for that matter) as it's already been shown how corrupt it can get. Personal feeling is that each country should have it's own federation with the worlds being nominated every 2 years or something.

Boxings broken, there's too many issues at the moment including belts, rankings, judging, drug testing that noone actually seems to want to change, and that's before we get into the 'undefeated streaks'.

And finally, good luck to Ovill, alas there's too many of the 'hard working but unspectacular' pro's getting a shot to make this a true cinderella story but if he goes over and wins then dont' see how we can take it away from him. You can only fight what's put in front of you.

Is anyone else getting sick and tired of the petty arguments coming from all corners??? can we start debating the point and not the poster. I don't agree with everyone but sometimes even your worst enemy can make a good point (apart from D4, he's a d*** of the highest order)

Trussy thinks only undefeated former amatuer stand outs should have the right to fight for world titles.

Great opportunity for McKenzie - hope he pulls it off. He absolutely clattered Jon-Lewis Dickinson up here. Tremendous shot.

I agree with truss on this one boxers will always try to get as low as they can regardless of when the weigh in is, i do think there should be a limit of the amount of weight you can put on after the weigh in. The IBF have a rule on this, other governing bodies should follow

Definately do not agree. Boxers like Chavez and Quillin rehydrate to ridiculas amounts.

Same day weigh-ins with weight checks leading up to the fight would be better for the sport.

What happens when fighters don't hit/make targets though?

Can the commision unilaterally cancel the fight??

Take Floyd-JMM as an example. Blatant flouncing of the rules but Floyd threw away a few cents worth of a fine and JMM agreed to go through with it anyway as he didn't want to walk away from the sizeable purse.

Happened to Kevin Mitchell for his fight against Maduma he came 2 pound over his. It was only an eliminator so not sure what would happen if a title was involved. It would probably only be available for the boxer who came within the hyrdation clause.

Take it no one watched this then. Just finished watching and my card is:

1. 9-10 Mckenzie
2. 9-10 Mckenzie
3. 9-10 Mckenzie
4. 10-9 Ramirez
5. 10-9 Ramirez
6. 10-9 Ramirez
7. 9-10 Mckenzie
8. 10-9 Ramirez
9. 9-10  Mckenzie
10. 9-10 Mckenzie
11. 10-9 Ramirez
12. 9-10 Mckenzie
Total: 113-115 Mckenzie

Due to him being on foreign soil I didn't give him much of a chance but it was actually scored fairly.

Alejandro Lopez Cid 113-115, John Poturaj 114-114, Larry Layton 115-113

So A split draw. Hopefully he can get a rematch.

What impressed me about Ovil was his footwork and boxing on the back foot. Didn't know he even had that in his locker.

He hurt Ramirez to a body a couple times as well.
