World T20
First topic message reminder :
The ICC have run some poor events in yesteryear but this is already taking the biscuit
No tickets on sale still, reports Delhi are pulling out as a host and Pakistan might not even be allowed to play. Oh and Australia have already announced their squad
But everything is "progressing smoothly" according to the latest ICC press release...

Wow, second time India have captured Simmons, only for a no-ball to be revealed.

42 off 24, seven wickets left.
If Simmons can stay until the end, the Windies should triumph.

Simmons, the man 606v2 loves to mock. He couldn't, could he? India their own worst enemies with the no-balls, but some magnificent hitting from the WIs...

Narrow step on the boundary reprieves Simmons once more.

Give Simmons 3 lives and he is easily better than Buttler

Bang, bang, from Russell.
Eight needed off the last. Two trips to the boundary.

Re: World T20
6 and 4 off the last two balls of the penultimate over leaves WI needing just 8. That man, Kohli, has the ball. Can he pull off the miracle?

3 off 3 with a slightly fortuitious boundary to Russell, what a knock he's playing!

Well done the West Indies.
Exceptionally brilliant chase.
That silence in the stadium is so sweet.

Amazing win for the Windies, after they looked to be out of it early on!
A very tough opponent for England as they are so unpredictable

feel sorry for Kohli, his was a gem of an innings, but what a fine chase that was from the WI.
WI vs Eng final. You'd have got excellent odds on that one pre-tournament

From the bbc:
'West Indies in finals of men's and women's World T20. Already won the U19 World Cup last month. Crisis, what crisis'
The final too close to call.
Should be a cracker. Windies will take pace off the ball.
Butler ,Roy and Hales danger men.
Windies will love the English pacer .
Nor convinced by england spinners

Needs to either really kick on or get out so the bigger hitters can come in
I know people will point to the no balls but think Rahane's innings cost India big time. In a game of 200, plays 200 - 40 off 35 balls ended up costing India - especially as it kept more powerful players like Dhoni out of the middle.

Russel finally coming good. Windies have some big hitters. Likewise england . ROY ,hales and butler are dangermen .
The pitch is expected to be slow for the final. The match will be decided by the spinners .

Re: World T20
Also why are you getting to the point in a World Cup semi final where Virat Kohli is bowling the final over?
Actually think India have had a very poor tournament. Lost to NZ, should've lost to Bangladesh and lost to West Indies. Basically only won games because Kohli played out of his skin. Sharma, Dhawan, Raina in particular extremely disappointing

Re: World T20
Dhoni gave up amidst the onslaught.....froze....
formulaic captain......who lost inspite of a relatively good and rounded bowling attack he had....
and won a few games on the solo efforts of Kohli and the implosion of BD.
he has served Indian cricket as much as he could and must hang his boots now

Kp_f I think your summary is spot on - time to hand over the reins to Virat.
Dhoni's post match explanation for bowling out nehra/bumrah early was bizarre. It's not like the Windies were massively on top, you could've got another over of Kohli/Ashwin in during the middle overs allowing Nehra to bowl the last. Very very strange indeed

Easy to say in hindsight, but their overall score shouldve been easily defendable and he gave the platform for others to play as reckleslly as they wanted to. Its pretty hard to critisize a solid score like that, its not like the rate was ridiculously low.
If he had scored those runs 10% faster then sure the Windies wouldve been chasing even more. Or maybe if someone hadnt bowled Chris Gayle so early then Russell wouldnt have been in as long to score so rapidly.
Its fair to say theres all manner of things that contributed to the defeat, ultimately what wanst at the time a bad innings could be looked at as part of that...but I think its better to focus on conditions (dew, toss) - out and out bad play (no balls, tactics , fielding) as the things that shoudlve been done differently - or actual weaknesses in the side (Captain holding a spot through reputation, lack of genuine class bowlers) as things that with a magic wand you would change
Partly as well India were unlucky that the Windies have turned up for this torunament (as England found out already). With their best players avaiable and wanting to perform as a team they are a very different prospect to the one we've seen in various other formats and cups recently. 3 batsmen played well above their usual levels, 2 hitting their highest ever T20 international scores at very high rates. Lightening hit new zeland once in the shape of Jason Roy suddenly producing a decent innings...India got struck 3 times. Either Windies had a good day or the Indian bowlers were a bit shabby (for a various reasons)... either way thats not really Rahanes fault.
Had India been the chasing side cirtisizing Rahanes innings would be fair.

Re: World T20
Nepal? They have won 2 out of 3. (66.6%)
Followed by Sri Lanka (64.28%) then India (64.06%)
I cheated.
Good question though. I saw that NZ had a very good recent record of around 71% until their semi final.

Yeah I just noticed on Wikipedia by accident when fact checking something else.
England are interesting ... theyve either got to finals or failed miserably.
