Olympic Tickets? Empty Olympic Tickets?

Post by Union Cane Wed 08 Jun 2011, 9:24 am

Given the current furore concerning ticket allocation for the London 2012 Olympics, I was wondering whether anyone here had applied for tickets for the boxing tournament, and whether any applications had been successful?

Also, if you were given free tickets for the women's boxing, would you go?

My wife applied on my behalf, which shows real love, if you like! As to whether I was successful, the truth is that I don't know, not having looked at my credit card statement recently. I'm guessing not, but you never know.

As to your second question - no, I doubt it. I'm a devout believer in full equality, which includes women boxing at the Olympics or for pay if they so choose, but it's not something that I particularly want to see. I don't doubt the skill levels; it's just an aesthetic thing, and I can't help it.

I really wanted to bid because with the elite squad fighting out of Sheffield have attended a couple of shows so have seen a few of them develop and win the ABA's but didn't in the end as the chances of getting them are slim and you just know hotels and restaurants in this country will absolutely have your pants down, also as it is me and the wifes tenth anniversary next year thought a weekend away abroad would be a more reasonable use of my scant resources (we're a romantic sort us Yorkshire men)

As for the womens personally it's not for me, appreciate all the equality arguments but for me whenever I have watched it it has always left me cold. Also living in Rotherham I have seen more than my share of women fighting.

I personally don't like or enjoy watching the amateur game.

Too much pitt patt for me personally. Bit like watching a JC fight and i never enjoyed many of those save for the Eubank fight and the first 6 of Kessler,

Basing my decision on that paying to watch him was money wasted Wink

Good luck to our boys though.

And out of £2300 or so worth of ticket applications i get precisely zero! I only wanted to go to stuff like the BMX/Volleyball (womens) etc!

It's my understanding that in womens boxing, a blow to the milkers, or snatch for that matter, is illegal?

Talk sense Dave, you know as well as me as a Yorkshire man I class anywhere either across the pennines, south of Worksop or over the Humber Bridge as abroad. In fact a nice weekend in Hull should be just the ticket.

The place is going to the dogs mate, ever since Jamie Oliver got involved we've got ideas above our station. Rotherham are moving away from Millmoor to a fancy new ground with seats in and covers over the stands and there are even restaurants serving foreign food. I'm all about moving with the times but what is wrong with Chinese and Indian food, how much variety can anyone actually want.

With all due respect Union, that list of phrases when read aloud will actually come across in a Geordie accent. Not wishing to get into the whole "cultural steroetypes and regional dialects" argument again but I hope you're banned from this forum for out and out racism.

As for Windy's contribution, I've often thought that, come the revolution and the inevitable abolition of the Monarchy, the choice of National Anthem will be a toss up between, "on Ilkley Moor..." or "Motorhead's "Ace of Spades"

That's probably because you are reading them aloud in your silly Yorkshire accent.

If read aloud in a proper accent you will sound just lark a Nulleh' Gulleh'.

I agree with you that I should be banned though.

After deciding that I've had quite enough of my Leanne's "durn't knur", "I spurse sur" and "what's with the fairce airche?" I'm converting her from a Yorkshire pudding to a Midlander when she relocates to my neck of the woods later this summer! So instead we'll be "goin aaart", having our "ups and daarns", growing "ode" together and fending off the winter "code."

Can't wairt....Oh, sorry. Wait!
