I think Maguire is a good player too, but Van dijk is arguably the best in the world atm, something Maguire never will be

Personally I always thought he was the best CB in the league before he joined Liverpool. Hated playing Southampton purely because of him.
No doubt Maguire will improve at United though. Money is insane but that is true right across the market now.

Mad how Fekir’s star has fallen ina a year. Surprised no Prem side was interested, must have really been something notable coming out of that medical stuff last year with Liverpool

Arsenal for Ceballos (confirmed) and Saliba. Also interested in Zaha still but appear likely not to match their valuation and go for the Brazilian lad Everton instead

That's gonna hurt West Ham, I'm pretty sure our physio will put in a bid or the Andy Carroll wing will be missing a key piece for Jack Wilshere's inevitable rehabilitation

Announced plans for a £500m new stadium today, so you would imagine it’s inevitable that the club will curtail spending going forward. Been a so-so window for a club trying to break the top 6. Gomes is meh, Delph and Welbeck are poor additions, and with Gueye/Lookman being sold, pretty much showcases where Everton are at. If they don’t deliver Zaha, I’d imagine their will be some pretty unhappy Evertonians
Not convinced on Villa spending £120m on about ten players. Looks like quantity, over quality, and likely to be Fulham all over again.

also Villa had like 12 players under contract to start the summer, they had no choice but to buy in bulk

We’ve certainly gone for it in this window.
More to come. Need a Keeper and another striker
Hopefully money well spent.

Fulham also got most of their players in very late last summer, and mainly brought at positions where they were already strong ignoring glaring holes. Villa have done most of their business early, and as GSC said, they had like 12 players on the books so needed too anyways

Bale should’ve taken a pay cut and joined a PL side. I’m all for players maximising their earnings but I fail to see what he’ll achieve in China.GSC wrote:Bale to China for a million a week at age 30 is weirdly depressing
If he had realise wage demands Chelsea or Manchester United would’ve probably taken him

Never really believed Bale was going, given those Chinese tax laws of 100% of the fee, or whatever Jiangsu had to pay. Real were basically having to give him away, so it didn’t make sense, given they need funds for Pogba.

not sure about this one, dybala looked like a world beater couple of years ago, form has dipped dramatically since then and theirs questions about his temperament. something we had more than enough of recently. clearly talented but we dont have the best track record with argies with attitudes.
happy to see lukaku go, he'll get you goals but mainly against weak opposition, nonexistent against the top sides. for all the taps in he'll get you his first touch will ruin many more attacking opportunity's

The old Van Nistelrooy conundrum back in 2006 when we let him go in favour of starting Saha who didn't score as much but linked play much better, no coincidence we started to see the best of Ronaldo and Rooney.

Personally feel Dybala is a fabulous player that’s just lost his way a bit. Dunno what formation OGS will be implementing this season but Dybala is your classic number 10. He’s wasted for Juventus and Argentina by playing in the wider areas.compelling and rich wrote:Nathaniel Jacobs wrote:Looks like Juventus are trying to swap Dybala for Lukaku.

Rather have him between the sticks than another unproven foreign keeper. The 2 we have, have not been great.
Heaton is decent, even at 33 has a few years left in him.

the 10 role is problematic as we've been building our midfield to try and give Pogba the freedom he wants. he's pretty useless deeper. difficult to fit Dybala and Pogba into the same team. and I cant see us getting rid of Pogba

Nail on the head, really. Feels a strange one, a deal put upon United, and I fear this is just a return to the same mistakes of before. Dybala has a questionable attitude, been out of sorts for a while, for club and country, and the fact it’s being reported he will only join, if given parity with United’s highest earners, just sets alarm bells off immediately. Deal will probably go ahead, just for the sake of seeing Lukaku leave, as nobody else seems willing to take him, or be able to afford him.

Dybala could be their best player, though. It's definitely a worthwhile risk considering what Lukaku is for them now

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
this is where the club need to do its due diligence, they need to speak to dybala and see if he wants to play for the club. agent of course will try and sell it but he wages demands will clearly be the first tell tale sign. if he convinces and ole wants someone in that position then he may well be worth a gamble. if anything is slightly out on above criteria i wouldn't risk it

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
I think with the pace United have, OGS can play Dybala as a false 9 tbh. With the likes of Martial, Rashford and/or James bombing forward. Dybala has the tools to pick a pass and also the ability to score plenty of goals himself

Zenit have completed the signing of Malcom from Barcelona for €40m + €5m. Really strange that Malcom has opted for Russia.
Real Madrid are close to signing Ajax midfielder Donny van Beek for a few around €65m. Real couldn’t get Manchester United to sell Pogba. Can’t see Zidane being there much longer with Perez unable to offload Bale/James and the failure to get Pogba.

Personally, I would of gone Alderweireld for £30m, and saved £50m to improve that god awful midfield. Still a squad, a million miles off Liverpool, or City.

no evidence whatsoever but I did hear that alderweireld cheap release clause is to foreign clubs only. makes it slightly understandably why we haven't pounced on that. would imagine spurs not wanting to sell to another prem club

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
I don't know that much about Maguire, but if United feel that he can steady their defense and get them at least 10 more points a season that will get them back into the top four next season, then good luck to them. The money is huge but they can afford it. I'm sure that it's easier for them to cough up £80-85 million for Maguire than it was for Liverpool to pay £75 for VVD.

Toon sign Jetro Willems on a season-long loan. Jeez, I’m happy with that. Allan Saint-Maximin through the door too. Not so convinced on that one.

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
Obviously Manchester United overpaid for Maguire but in the long run £80m works out better than spending £25m on Alderweireld whom has been injury prone in the last 12-18 months.
At 26 years old Maguire could be a fixture at Old Trafford for the next decade. Whereas Alderweirald would've been no more than stop gap.

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
Long term, you would always say a younger player will be a better signing. I suppose the issues are that they also need a short term boost, quite dramatically, and that if they do not get any Champions League football in the next two years, that long term plan is looking worse and worse.
I say both because they're Man United and they've got the money to have done it.

probably look at it as the long term really isnt as relevant these days when you're only ever about 10 games away from blowing it up and starting over with a new manager.

Mandzukic being thrown in to the United deal, for Lukaku. Think United just doing Juve a favour, and reducing their wage bill. 33 now, way past his best, but a decent physical/aerial threat plan B option, behind Rashford.
