Quality signing for Cov. Lots of experience, still only 28. Statement of intent, after a consolidation season in the Championship last year (after winning L1 at a canter the previous year). Could be an exciting season for Cov fans.

Also, coaching appointment at Wasps - RL crossover for Martin Gleeson of Salford Reds, who's going to be supporting the attack and backs coaching (along with a wider remit).
Decent appointment, although most people were calling for the defence coaching to be strengthened - hence the offer to Edwards previously.
We'll see, I guess!

I heard that Wilson is going to be loaned to Sale for next season.
Then back to Falcons when they return to the prem.

Yeah i mentioned it on the Falcons thread.
Wilson to sale on a year loan deal.
Goneva has left (contract not renewed - probably mutual) and links to Quins.

My understanding was that Sale was Wilson's preferred destination. However it seems Sale are unwilling to confirm anything till they are sure when they get him. Meanwhile Quins have apparently made an offer and Tigers still interested.

I dont really see the point in the move to be honest.
How many games is he actually going to play for Sale??

I know that the season is starting later, but you have to imagine that Mark is going to need a bit of a break between the end of the WC and start of the season.
The World Cup could potentially (hopefully!) run until the start of November. Say that he needs at least a month's recovery time after this, you are talking about the end of November/ start of December before he makes his first appearance. Then the Six Nations kicks off in February until mid-March. Assuming that he stays fit (after a brutal 12 months of rugby), he is going to be available for what maybe 8 or 9 games maximum?

Pretty sure he has a better chance playing for England beyond the RWC if he is in the Prem

Re: Silly Season Transfer Rumours 19/20
A rested Wilson coming in at the business end of the season would probably be beneficial for any side.
Also, there is a chance Falcons don't bounce straight up again!
Under those circumstances there is the chance that Wilson may decide to stay with the incumbent club.
Depends on the contract wording I guess.
From a Quins perspective I would be happy to see any of Goneva or Wilson heading there.

If Goneva is looking for a lower contract then I'd take him back at Tigers in a heartbeat. Even at 35 he has that ability to finish tries that others wouldn't finish. He moved to Falcons for a deservedly high wage but if he isn't going to France that wage will naturally come down at this stage in his career.

European matches start pretty much as soon as the WC ends, with the GP starting the weekend of the 1/4 finals. With all players who go to the WC being given the summer of 2020 fully off, I suspect that they will be expected to return to play club rugby as soon as their WC duties are completed. As such the games that anyone would miss are pretty minimal (and zero if as last time we do not get out of the group)

The incoming Boss at the RFU, when asked about the Leicester contingent and the risk of us going down, stated that he saw no reason that a temporary stay in the Championship would affect England selection. He even suggested that the players would be more rested.
The truth is that it would have an impact - but more on those who Eddie does not see as set in stone starters. He often states that Club form bears no relevance to international potential - thus he could easily ignore relegation for settled team members. However those needing to impress would surely find that hard in the 2nd tier.

The Du Preez twins are on loan until the Super Rugby season kicks off again which is what March/April time. So if Sale have got them to around the end of the 6N Wilson should be back in peak form and back from England just as they go. With the two sets of twins in the backrow and Ross (Strauss as well?), Beaumont able to play 8 also. There's enough squad depth to ease him back in after the RWC.
The question would be, when does the loan start as I'm sure Sale are now a lot closer to the salary cap and also won't want to be paying out for Wilson before November when he is back in the UK. That might be the sticking point in the deal.

Yeah, I understood that Sale did not want to start or even confirm a loan deal till after Wilsons has finished with the WC, whether he makes the squad or not. They do not want to pay money for a period he is unavailable nor take an injured player on loan.

Rumoured injury cover for Nathan Earle. If Earle is out for the first few months then getting Goneva in for the season would be a very good bit of business.

James O'Connor leaves Sale and heads back to Australia and the Queensland Reds. Puts him in world cup contention but must be an outside bet. Presumably he'll go back to playing flyhalf down under.

Quins sign Travis Ismael from the Bulls. Initially an Injury dispensation for Nathan Earl, but has been offered a longer contract.
I guess this means Goneva isn't coming to the Stoop!

Each time he found some form he got injured. He certainly didn't look like the electric player that was tearing things up when he broke through. He actually looked better during his brief spell at LI.
Doubt Sale will miss him with a backline of;
De Klerk, Du Preez
van Rensburg, James
Solomona, Ashton, Yarde

Tigers linked with Roelof Smit at the Bulls. Presumably as a replacement or injury dispensation for Dave Denton.

Not really mate.
We've lost a few but in all honesty most have been replaced fairly well, and the team looks strong enough to come straight back up...with enough kids to really make the future hugely hopeful!
Its the coaching team and their tactics that is the bit that needs to be fixed.

Good signing for Falcons Seb de Chaves is a reliable all round lock or was at Tigers and when LI were last in the Prem don't know how he went last season. I thought he'd have been one LI would have held onto.

Re: Silly Season Transfer Rumours 19/20
I'm fine with him leaving as long as we have someone coming in.
He's gradually drifted down the pecking order to the point where last season he was realistically 5 choice behind McNally, van de Merwe, Maddison and Paulo.
He would have been a useful squad option this year, but don't think Kidney really rated him. Cracking bloke all the same though and Richards may have a completely different view. He was certainly effective for us in our first year in the Championship.

Leaves Irish with three senior locks and slim chance of any more coming in. We must really rate Collingridge and Munga. Very strange.

I can't believe there's not a lock or two coming in SirB
Don't think we'll be seeing any of the academy locks in the GP much (if at all).

For the record, we've also signed Goneva, plus Travis Ismaiel from South Africa. We're more excited about those, but an extra lock was very much needed.

Re: Silly Season Transfer Rumours 19/20
Goneva is an excellent signing for Quins. He can still finish tries that most others wingers wouldn't do. He's especially dangerous in the 22 and running off 9 so a good player to have outside Care.
Cavubati is an odd one. He's a consistent international performer whilst McKee has been in charge of Fiji. He hasn't shone in the Prem at all though. Perhaps Quins will get more out of him.

Looks like we will still sign Philip van der Walt the sa number 8 despite our relegation.
That would be some signing!!
I see Sale sharks have signed another south African aswell...a prop.
Are they a franchise of the Natal Sharks now?
