India v England Test Series Tipping Competition
2021 India v England Tipping Competition Rules:
1.
Pick 2 (two) batsmen and 2 (two) bowlers from both India and England whom you think will score the most runs and take the most wickets.
You get both batting and bowling points per innings so a bowler who scores runs has both batting and bowling scores added together.
e.g.
Kohli, Pujara, Ashwin, Bumrah
Burns, Root, Broad, Bess
2.
Pick 1 (one) fielder from each team; excluding wicket keepers for most catches in the Series.
It can be a bowler (for c&b) if you want.
e.g.
Gill, Stokes
3.
Select which wicket keeper will take the greatest number of catches, stumpings and run outs combined for each Test.
If a wicket keeper is injured then the replacement keeper's figures shall be used.
e.g.
Pant or Buttler... or "the same" amount of dismissals.
4.
Predict the Toss:
a) Who wins the toss?
e.g.
England
b) Winning captain's decision - bat or field?
e.g.
Bat
5.
a) Predict the 1st Test result.
e.g.
India
Selections must be posted a minimum one (1) hour before the commencement of each Test. No PM reminders shall be sent.
Scoring:
1.
1 point for every run scored by your nominated batsmen. Add together for each Test.
Bonus 20 points for 100 runs.
extra 25 points for 150 runs.
extra 40 points for 200 runs.
extra 50 points for 250 runs.
extra 60 bonus points for 300+ runs.
Note: the batting & bowling score bonuses accumulate so;
Batting:
100 runs = 120 points. A player scores 127 + 20 = 147 points.
150 runs = 195 points. A player scores 176 + 20 + 25 = 221 points.
200 runs = 285 points. A player scores 243 + 20 + 25 + 40 = 328 points.
250 runs = 385 points. A player scores 282 + 20 + 25 + 40 + 50 = 417 points
300+ runs = 445 points. A player scores 309 + 20 + 25 + 40 + 50 + 60 = 504 points.
Bowling:
20 points per wicket with a bonus 50 points for a 5-fer.
An extra 35 points for 6-fer, 40 for 7-fer, 45 for 8-fer, 50 for 9-fer.
An extra 100 bonus points for a 10-fer.
5 wickets = 100 + 50 = 150 points
6 wickets = 120 + 50 + 35 = 205 points.
7 wickets = 140 + 50 + 35 + 40 = 265 points
8 wickets = 160 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 = 330 points
9 wickets = 180 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 + 50 = 400 points
10 wickets = 200 + 50 + 35 + 40 + 45 + 50 + 100 = 520 points
Caught and bowled = 20 points for the wicket + 25 bonus points for the catch = 45 points.
2.
Fielder catches: Your nominated fieldsmen earn you 25 points per catch and 25 points for a run out.
3.
Wicket keepers: 50 points for correct selection. e,g. - Pant or Buttler.
Or if you think they will take the same number of total dismissals per innings - then nominate "the same" = 50 points.
If they take the same number of catches and stumpings (combined) and you've picked either one of the keepers - then 25 points only.
4.
a) Correctly predict who wins the toss = 15 points
b) Correctly predict what the winning Captain decides to do = 15 points - only for those with part a) above correct; no points if your a) was incorrect.
5.
a) Correctly predict the winning team for each Test = 75 points.
b) If you guess all 4 Test Match outcomes correctly then there is a further 125 point bonus = 300 + 125 = 425 points.
Note: Correctly predict a "Draw" = 75 points
If one (or more) of your selected players gets injured during a match or is dropped from the Test side after a match, then you’ll have the opportunity to select replacement players – either as it happens - for the injured player or before the next Test commences (for a player who gets dropped). Doesn’t have to be the actual substitute player – it can be somebody else already in the team. However, you don’t receive any of their previous points – you must start accumulating points from scratch with them.

Yes, me too, Guildford.
I might wait until the afternoon (tomorrow) here when the final teams are announced; although I have most of my selections at the top of my head.

Re: India v England Test Series Tipping Competition
Cheers for setting it up Joey. Whilst I harbour few hopes for England over the course of the series I do at least think we have the individuals to play very good cricket in parts. I think we will be beaten by a better side in too many sessions to really challenge the series but should be capable of winning enough sessions when we get it right to potentially nip a Test and keep things interesting.Pal Joey wrote:Great stuff king_carlos... it's good to have you on board!

Regardless of the end result I do think this England side are on an upward trajectory and as long as we don't see absolute drubbings by an innings I don't think losing in India to this India team will represent too much of a blow to that progression.
Queue England all out for 150 in 2 and a half sessions tomorrow followed by then India making 700 batting for 2 and a half days over weekend...

3. Pant (or Saha)

Re: India v England Test Series Tipping Competition
I considered Pope there at short leg with Leach as primary spinner and India's right-handers. If Leach bowls well his orthodox ball should challenge the outside edge and arm ball challenge the inside edge bringing Pope in to play.guildfordbat wrote:Strange doing this and not being able to cut and paste 'Starc and Cummins'. I plumped for Root in the slips with Archer, Broad and Anderson though. How well India play spin might have been a small factor too admittedly!

Alarmed to see cricinfo suggesting seven changes to the England team from Galle...
Apart from this just sounding weird (never change a winning team ?) it makes this comp a problem ! Don't want to be doing this at the toss . So , PJ : if my England bowlers are removed from the show I will replace as follows :
Broad becomes Anderson first , then Woakes.
Bess becomes Moeen , then Woakes , then Anderson. If that all makes sense...

Re: India v England Test Series Tipping Competition
Yes, I've been reading that too, alfie.
Makes our task a bit harder but once the final teams are announced, probably just after the toss, then at least we'll all have more certainty.
I see KP_Fan has already correctly predicted Washington Sundar (possibly) in for Axar Patel (injured knee) but he also has Curran (not sure which one?) in there as a replacement for Woakes... if Woakes is selected.
Anyway... your order of preferences above is noted.
The same degree of flexibility for final selections applies to everyone else of course - once we know exactly whom will take the field.
Quite a few of us have some combination of Ali, Bess and Leach or Archer, Broad and Anderson.
I'm obviously still treating Stokes as an all-rounder... whether he bowls much or not. Pretty sure he'll have to roll the arm over for a few spells.
Root also has some scope for collecting some extra points if he appears next to the umpire with his golden arm too.

Reckon we can give you a KP_fan deal , goose
If PJ agrees ?
Wouldn't be a tipping competition without a goose so hope we can strike a deal...

Re: India v England Test Series Tipping Competition
Wouldve had Root and Stokes Leach and Anderson for England I reckon.
India Kholi Rohit Bumrah Aswhin
Catchers Stokes and Pujara
Keeper Pant
India to win (not now but thats my honest pick)
Toss a coin see if I got t right? Whoever won obviously bat first, thast a given.

They're on 134 runs combined right now after 69 overs... so how about 50% or 67 points... but you have to stick with Sibley for the whole series?
That would make you 17 points behind equal last place on 84 points (after 69 overs). Sound good?
However, I'll need your other picks very soon - before something happens out there.
Ah... I see you've posted above - we'll go with that. Minus the toss, etc.

Don't worry... all sorted.
I have given you a 20 point penalty for the 40 points (for both of the only two wicket takers so far)... but from now on you get both Ashwin and Bumrah points. I hope I'm not being too severe - (I trust your honesty) but I'm sure you'll make up ground fast.

Yes. I have Archer for you.
You're doing well, Soul... you are the clear leader by 33 points; courtesy of Joe Burns.

Afro: I'm assuming Bess as your replacement for Ali... please let me know if this is what you want.
Also please confirm your replacement for Kuldeep - it'll be Sundar unless I hear otherwise.
Yep, fine for me. Bit late for confirming the Indian bowler, I know but might well have gone for that anyway, and defo would have done Bess instead of Moeen
Thanks PJ

Wow! That looks like a Tour de France GC with clusters of groups all battling it out chasing the leader!
Soul Requiem was the only one who had Joe Burns hence his 33-point lead. Well done!
No need to panic for the rest of us though. The unfortunate late wicket of Sibley will see positions spread around more tomorrow. I hope.
Gotta love the symmetry though. Everyone has an "8" in their score - except Soul.
The average score is actually 199.53 but it has been rounded up to a neat "200".
Thanks everyone for getting your picks in and helping me sort out your preferences.
It wasn't easy with the late team announcements but we all did well and we're all set to go for this First Test now.
