To be or not to be a hole in one
Played on Saturday. Started off paired with another 2 for the first 4 holes. Anyway, 3rd hole is a par 3, but had a temp green a little bit short and to the side. Anyway, guy we played with holed in oned. It was a bigger hole, which helps, a lot smaller area to aim at. It's a hole in one on the scorecard, but maybe not one to shout about? Would you be claiming it?

Definitely! You can only play what's in front of you. If he'd played it in 2, would anyone have said it's not really a 2?

Re: To be or not to be a hole in one
I have had 5 hole-in-ones. My second one (in 1990) was on a "Par 4" that normally plays about 290 yds uphill
But it was temporary green and the hole was only about 200 yds . I hit a 4 iron and it went into the hole. I count it as a hole in one, but do not count it as a "Super Eagle" aka Double Eagle aka Albatross.

I hope super_realist has all the support he needs at this difficult time.

I thought we had stopped using the larger hole cups on temps but no I wouldnt purchase a bottle of scotch on that basis. Many moons ago I had 5 2's in one round on temps with bigger cups all 4 2's and one shorter 4 but never felt it was proper

I’m in the same camp…can’t see how anyone would want to claim it with an oversize hole?!?? The shortened length doesn’t mean too much but still not sure I’d be telling many people about an ace in on a temp green

Definitely not a hole in one in my opinion if its a temporary green with a large hole.
I saw a queation posted online about whether a hole in one on a simulator counts and one of the comments was "does shagging a blowy mean you got your hole?"
Clearly the same for this situation, not a hole in one

At this point you would probably settle for a blowy?
