Glasgow and Edinburgh 30 - Starting the new season with 2 wins - Long may it continue
First topic message reminder :
Well both Scotland's pro teams got off the mark with a W this weekend, though probably fair to say that Glasgow's was slightly more pleasing on the eye!
Still not to be sniffed at and probably a while since it last happened.
A good omen for the season, let's hope so, though early season games are not always a predictor of longer term performance. Both sides still got plenty of players to bring back into the fold and a lot of improvement to make.
Roll on 2023/24!

Big swing in this game from Edinburgh getting a 3rd try disallowed to messing up an attack in the Bennett 22 leading to a breakaway try in return.
All bennetton now!

Good time to score on the stroke of HT and Healy kicks a good conversion

Edinburgh end the half well but Kinghorn a good bet for a hat trick on his last home game. Edinburgh much the better team and really should get a try BP win. If they don't mess things up in the 2nd half!

Bennetton yellow and strange call for Edinburgh to go for posts. We've been absolutely smashing them in the mauls and had a lot of momentum at that point, and they were down a prop.
Go for corner surely!

Absolute shambles from Edinburgh. We choose to go to corner this time (once the prop was back...) But mess up the lineout. Then a comedy of errors and Bennetton kick through. Kinghorn fumbles the ball 5m from line then palms off a shocker that the opposition pounce on and score!
For all we'll miss Kinghorn's attack, we'll not miss those stupid moments.

God, Edinburgh chucked that one away!
Well done Brnetton for staying in the game though.
Toulouse certainly got to see both sides of Kinghorn in this game!

Absolutely shocker of a defeat for Edinburgh. Coach needs to give them an absolute bollocking after that sorry effort.
Absolutely in control of the game and much the better team. Two Bennetton breakaway tries kept them in the game and we kept compounding error after error. Edinburgh made a huge mistake not going to corner after the yellow card - a try would have killed the game instead 3 points kept them in it and they held onto the ball for the rest of the sin bin period.
Absolute shocker!

Has to be said
Edinburgh looked a much better team when Price was playing SH than they did once BV came on. He just does not control the game the way thst top SHs can do.

What the absolute fecc!!! I watched the first half hour and then joined the present Mrs Pip in the front parlour; the game was too one sided to be that interesting, I decided to watch the second half as a warm up before Glasgow tomorrow.
How could the Luvvies lose that?
What must Aldi Price be thinking tonight?

Wow, just watched that on delay
First time this season Glasgow have really hit their straps. Some result from 14-0 down.
I thought Ulster really turnrd up as well and definitely brought the best out in us.
Really impressive performance!

I thought Kennedy hsd a pretty decent game last night. He certainly kept the ball moving at a decent rate which is what Glasgow require of a SH and he took his try well.
Maybe we are not going to miss AP as much as we thought!
In other news, rumours from the Rugby Paper that Cameron Redpath is contemplating a move up north. Not clear which team it might be though?

Two thoughts here;
Kennedy always was a decent scrum half; Scotland standard
Lions standard
I think he is a good club player and worth his place in the squad. For me he's third behind Hornito and the House Elf.
Redpath? Here's the conundrum; the Luvvies are seven points behind the Rugby Club (top of the league) after six games because we have better players, so really they need Price, Redpath, Invalidity Benefit and a blood transfusion much more than we do. However, if he has any ambition the CR will be begging to move to a single-end in sunny Govan rather than the squalor and decay of Stockbridge.

Yes, am very pleased with that Weej result.
The fact that they came back strongly and didn't ease up is what championship teams do, There is also real pride in defending their home turf which you also want to see as a fan.
Best of all, everyone's favourite Scoring Scouser is top try scorer in the league at the moment.
Give that man a giro and a knock-off 'Roleks'.
I have no words for how peed I am at the Stockbridge Ski Club. They absolutely beat themselves.

Redpath to Edinburgh makes a lot of sense. Our midfield is probably the weakest position I'm the squad. Lang and Dean are decent club players but not top class. Glasgow don't need another 12 given they're well stocked in the midfield department.
Saying that, will do.him no harm playing with Russell for the year albeit Redpath also has a lot of competition to get picked at Bath.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh 30 - Starting the new season with 2 wins - Long may it continue
Missed the games this weekend (and probably will for the foreseeable) due to the Christmas schedule heating up. Good win for Glasgow and a near miss for Edinburgh. This weekend is a keen test for both teams ambitions. Wins away in Ireland and both would end the first tranche of games in the top four.
As for Redpath, it would balance the Edinburgh backline better than retaining Kinghorn. Healy has struggled to run the backline effectively in attack at times and Redpath would be a real support in that department. What I would say though, is Edinburgh lack heft in the centres with Bennett at 13 (as good a strike runner he is) and maybe they would be better off with a Tuipulotu/McDowall-esque character to provide a hammer to go with the sickle. Can Matt Currie turn into that sort of player?

I'm just hearing that Furra Linee is joining the Scotland coaching team FULL TIME.
Best of luck to him, he looks like he could be a decent coach.
I don't think Toonie will be on the General's Chrimbo card list.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh 30 - Starting the new season with 2 wins - Long may it continue
A bit of rotation from Glasgow, no doubt with the upcomming Euro games in mind, when you might imagine we will go fully loaded.
George Horne not risked, though it does seem that he has been training this week. Hopefully Ben Afshar gets more than 5 mins this time around.
The centre pairing of Sione and Lord Stafford seems to have been the one constant in recent weeks and both are not far off needing a rest I am sure. Shuggie seems to be almost back as well, which is good, we will likely see him next weekend. For all the talk of Redpath being a better fit at Edinburgh, we are not that flush for centres either and only really one injury away from a problem. The way our back three are playing currently, Steyn may also find himself playing in the centre a lot more when he gets back as well.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh 30 - Starting the new season with 2 wins - Long may it continue
This time last year the General put out what we all considered a 2nd XV against Baarf. That didn't go too badly.
It was obvious that some players would need to be rested either this week or next. My gut feeling is that a home win against Northampton is higher on the must do list.
If we come away from Thomond with two points then we haven't lost ground in the URC: if we lose at home in our first match we'll struggle to make the knockout stages.
Turner, Richie, Fagerson, Dempsey, Hornito, Dimples, Sebastian should all be available next week.
I think it'll be very, very difficult against a Munster side who are playing really well. However I thought we were taking far too weak a side to Bath so what do I know?

Jack Dempsey apparently was injured during the Ulster game and has had to have surgery on an eye socket bone, out for 6 plus weeks.
That is not good news, but hopefully back in time for the 6N.

Another good, young SQ player.
He was the starting SH for Sale most of last season and has been mentioned as a potential England player. Other than Price, I would say he is a step up on any of the other Edinburgh SHs.
He may well see better chances of playing internationally with Scotland than England as England also have a log jam of young SHs coming through.

Thats no bad thing if he came north but if he goes to Edinburgh he's got Price, Vellacott and Shiel ahead of him
Glasgow have Horne, Afshar and Kennedy...
Price back to Glasgow and Warr to the Gunners?

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh 30 - Starting the new season with 2 wins - Long may it continue
He is a better player than Vellacott or Sheil.
Last week it was very noticable how Edinburgh dropped off once Price was subbed off. Neither of the other 2 manages a game well enough to be a really good SH.
Everett obviously noted that as soon as he arrived at Edinburgh and that is why he was so keen to get Price down the M8.
With Dobie injured now, you could potentially see a spit in the 6N squad for Warr regardless of whether he comes to Edinburgh or not.

If Warr does come up to Edinburgh, then Price should be off to pastures new. Glasgow already have a very good 1-2 in G Horne and Dobie and don't have the resources to have Price as third choice. Warr can compete with Vellacott and Steele as former Premiership starters.
For Price, a former Lions SH who may not get many more Scotland caps should get a healthy offer in France. Provence seem to be splashing the cash and look a fair bet to get promoted.

Good point Hazel, fun to notice that Edinburgh seem to have a habit of picking up former prem scrum halfs who amount to "not as good as we'd hoped..."

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh 30 - Starting the new season with 2 wins - Long may it continue
They have never picked one up who has been a regular starter and for the league leaders to boot.
I have now read the article with Sanderson and it also has to be said, they don't sound like they will be letting him go willingly and without making him a decent offer, so this may well all be hesrsay.
Price, as Hazel says, may well move on though. He will be looking for a decent contract and may or may not be offerred that to stay on. It might depend on what kind of performances he puts out over the next few months.
I sudpect he knew Glasgow were going to offload him at the end of this season, hence being keen to tske the Edinburgh offer and get himself back in the shop window.

Munster collect the TBP before half time. Deservedly so. Their line speed is lightning quick and they are dominating the breakdown.
Glasgow? Sordoni doesn't have Ragnar's impact in the loose, McBeth looks short of match sharpness, Manjezi isn't putting in any carries, Ventner looks off the pace. Kennedy-Weir need to imrove or they may be waiting quite a while befor they start again.
Just to add insult to injury Ollie Smith is off injured. Jordan to 15 and McKay to the wing.

Caught the first quarter and that was pretty limp from Glasgow but Munster played really well. Yes Glasgow made some poor errors but Munster have been better in the air and the quality between both sides scrum halves and standoffs is pretty significant.

Glasgow having to rely on Kennedy and Weir is a major weakness in an otherwise very strong squad thank season.

Duncy having a mare with the boot off the tee, which ironically is usually why he is in the team.
Still 3 tries now and 25 mins to go. I'll be more thsn happy with a point from this game

Well, a PT and BP for 4 tries
One point from this gsme always a decent result and anything else is a bonus. Munster get a YC as well

Darge has been pretty useful, but Munster just have an extra gear this evening.

If Weir had kicked well Glasgow would be in LBP territory by now.

Well we played sh1t, but we got a point, so I guess we should be happy.
Ashfar certainly upped the pace when he came on, but struggling to take to many positives from that game.

Excited to see Ashfar develop this season, we need another scrum half to challenge Dobie. He’s built pretty similarly to Cam Roigard who was superb for the all blacks during the World Cup. Six foot four is tall for a scrum half!
