Nadal Djokovic In Davis Cup Final

Maybe looking ahead a little as Argentina and France are no pushovers. But how good it would be to see these two play in a Davis Cup final? Especially if its a deciding rubber...

That would certainly bring a lot more attention to this venerable competition. I was thinking the same thing last night. Although I don't know if Nadal would play. He has had some niggling injury problems and usually his knees aren't in the best shape after the us hardcourt and the year end indoor season.

Novak did say he will "do everything in his power to defend davis cup" so it is possible!

Yes, I think Novak will play the final if they get there, he is too much of a national symbol for his country. But Nadal, I don't see the motivation late in the year battling leg problems as usual at the tail end of a long hardcourt season.

Where would the final be played, Spain or Serbia?

Good question, both countries look to be hosting the semis I think, so I really don't know Nitb.

It appears that if Serbia and spain get to the final it will be played in Serbia, since last time the two treams played the match took place in Spain (2 years ago)

If its played in Serbia I presume it will be on a hardcourt.

I tell you what, if that match does happen and if it goes down to Novak Nadal rubber, I dare proclaim it match of the year already!

If the two nations do meet with no injuries, I think it will come down to the doubles. As On current form I think Novak will take his two singles but the Serbian no2 will lose his two singles.

Pretty good analysis Eric. I think Spain just has too many good players. Ferrer is a workhorse as your #2 singles player. Plus you have the luxury of trying out Ferrer and if he lays a stinker in the first match going with fernando verdasco or Gonzalez. It would be a great tie that is for sure. And like you said most likely coming down to the doubles. I would like Novak over Nadal especially playing in a fast indoor court at the end of the year.

You know that Nadal doesn't play the "away" matches.

What if he doesn't want to play in the final?

I actually can't see Nadal even considering to compete in a Davis cup final. He is usually a little dinged up and tired by that time of the year and Spain has won it 3 or 4 times recently so I don't really see the motivation for Nadal to show up. Especially, a road trip to belgrade.
