Re: Wales
oh dear - you have already lost a match you know.
I guess the 7 other 1/4 finalists apart from France will feel the same but you may not here it from their fans yet?

No we wont this is Wales we are talking about, next week is a 50/50 game against Ireland, and after that it will be a 50/50 semi final against france or england, and after that a 99/1 game against new zealand so no we wont win it.
We can however be very proud, all we asked is to compete with south africa and try not to lose to the island teams, we have done far far more than any welsh fan had dreamed of. We can be very proud.

I agree Wales have achieved RU spot in their group which was 'par' but their performances have been encouraging.

If the question was "are we going to make the final" it would be yes.
But to beat NZ at home/SA who beat NZ at home/Aus who beat NZ at home will be very difficult.
Dont get carried away...

But you would have to beat Ireland(probably) who beat Australia who beat NZ at home
So the answer should be no shouldn't it?

Re: Wales
Wales, England and Ireland all have a 'good' chance of making the final -I'm guessing that France are not capable of TWO good perfromances - but I think SA or NZ would be favourites to win against any of the home nations.
It's a great draw now, and while I hope that it's England playing in the final, I'm delighted that Wales and Ireland may be there.

Sorry mate, but I'm fed of this balls. For too long we praise mediocrity and have suffered for it. I'm not saying we will do anything, but we have to at least frickin try.

We beat Samoa who beat Australia who beat beat NZ...so the answer is yes
We're going to win the world cup. It's embarrassing people can even dispute it.

Well good luck with that reasoning, I don't even fancy our chances against NZ and we do pretty well against them, so yeah. Go for it.

Good attitude - why shouldn't Wales get to the final and then ??? As an England fan I think we have a great chance, and Wales have shown enough to suggest they do as well. Previous threads have aruged that Wales are a better team than England so why not a final sport?

i cant predict a rwc win for wales but as i said sometime ago on old606, if wales can get past their quater no semi finalists will stop us making the final.
huge game against ireland next week. if we win that i cant see england or france coming even close.
wales are playing the best rugby i think i have ever seen them play.

Re: Wales
Welsh rugby is either up or down there is no middle ground, but we had a young promising team in 1987, and 2003 but after good world cups those players came home to adulation and stopped aspiring to be better, they start to believe their own press and think they dont need to try anymore as they have made it, that is always wales problem.Draigoch wrote:Sorry mate, but I'm fed of this balls. Think that may be a bit of 'post match euphoria' there! When was the last time Wales thumped England or Ireland?

Just listened to Gareth Thomas and you would think that Wakes had won the thing outright! Yes they played some nice stuff but cmon,Fiji are to open for their own good and they gave away more turnovers than the local bakers. The two decent teams that youve come across in your pool ended in a defeat and a game that could have gone either way.As with virtually all the teams in this WC,its who turns up on the day.

based on their performances so far i dont see france or england as 50/50 games. france is unpredictable but england wont get passed wales in the semi, if england and wales make it there.

the thing about england is they seem to play at the oppositions level to always be competitive. as much as i think we have the better side if we play them they will be tough to beat even if they play poorly. and yeah france are playing crap but they would have just won a quarter final so more confident- plus they have some great players. but yeah i do agree we are playing better and think our side is better.

Naturally if the worst thing happens and Wales do get to the final I will actually support them and hope they live up to the hype.
However I might not be able to watch or read about rugby for a few years after if they actually do win (or even worse - 'they would have won except for the one incident when.... '). Come to think of it I guess that was the reaction a few people had around here after 2003.

Don't forget they beat England last time out as well, also Argentina and Scotland,
the teams mighty England juggernauted past in the worlds easiest group.
Mighty Mighty Red Rose of England going to march into the final.
Samoa would have topped that group or Tonga or even Canada

I tipped Ireland for the final. My mate tipped Wales for the final. Mr Lynagh tipped England for the final.
No-one has tipped France, so they'll probably win it in a mega-sulk.

Third time lucky for the year with home advantage in an inconsequential warm-up and England missing a raft of players wasn't it?
Ireland have beaten the 3N champions this WC, Wales lost to the team that came last. Wales haven't beaten a team of consequence in a serious match without the assistance of a ball boy or home advanatge since 2008. End of the road for you next weekend I'm afraid.

Wales didn't even beat a team of consequence when they beat Ireland in the 6 Nations just gone. I don't know why you Irish ladies have to keep bringing up the ball boy incident for, especially when you are all happy to accept three of your dodgy points after a clear O'Driscoll knock on. We'll call the score 12-10 and move on now girls.

Re: Wales
Sigh, it's threads like this that get Welsh fans such a bad reputation. Yes, we're playing well, yes, we have a much better chance of doing well than any time in the last decade. No, we haven't won the bloody cup yet.
Equally, neither has any other team. Previous games go out of the window in a cup situation. We nearly beat SA, Ireland beat Aus. It's apples and pears. Does either of those things mean next week's match is a dead cert for either side? Of course it doesn't. Equally, England are looking ropey, but they've conceded exactly one try, and Ashton is the highest try score in the RWC so far.
In short, it's all to play for. Rock, paper, scissors means nothing, and throwing insults doesn't make your team better.

That's fair enough, Roll, but it doesn't take into account the fact that Wales are going to beat Ireland quite comfortably having the ability to score tries from 1 to 15, something Ireland lack. Then it's the victor of the lesser two of the NH, and a choking NZ in the final.
We're going to win it.

Umm, for the first time ever, I'd say it's not beyond the realms of possibility that Wales will win, but it's a pretty long shot even now! We'll have to beat 3 teams who have been more used to beating us in recent years.

i'll give deccie a call tell him to fly home with the team today.
Me: Deccie, time to go home. the welsh machine is going to kill us. on current form they are a shoe in for the final
Deccie: but we finished top of our group, we beat the 3n champions, they were beaten by SA and scrapped past a samoa team that had a 5 day turn around.
Me: but deccie look what they did to that world class outfit fiji, i mean there defence was awesome and they still but 66 points on the board..
Deccie: you are right (shouts of the phone) Brian tell the boys to pack the bags. Thanks kev that was almost embarrasing.

No I mean Scotland who you lost to recently, like many you're just pulling the selective memory one. You lost 4 on the bounce coming into the RWC and struggled past Italy in the 6 Nations and the USA recently. ALL those games seem to be forgotten (a classic anglo trait) - The game remains a 50/50 and we can all talk our teams up and this history etc - it counts for nothing though.
