NITB - the ancients have entrusted these secrets to me (emancipator) alone.
It would be unbecoming of me to reveal them on an internet video.
Great power comes with great responsibility.
Dear child, ye must walk the long road first.

Nah. I want him to lose because he isn't as "manly" as Rafa...

I really can't say I care too much about the result of this match NITB. If Nole goes through I'll support Fed against him, but that's because I like Fed more as a tennis player.
Looks like Nole could be on his way down here.

Losing the last set doesn't matter. win or lose, Berdy now needs to win against Ferrer.

it matters for Ferrer though BB, if Tipsy wins this than any win by Berdych means Berdych tops the group, whereas if Nole wins Ferrer would still top the group if he lost in 3.

My understanding is that Berdych just needs to win a set now.....
But I don't think Nole wants to qualify anyway. He seems very keen to lose if anything.
Edit - nope I was wrong. BB's right. though I still think Djoko does want to get through. He is doing his best to get out but he still has a chance to play the semi....poor guy.

With tipsy taking that set, could well be the end for djokovic regardless of who wins 3rd set. Cant see ferrer caring too much for his match and reckon berdych may win in 3 sets at the least. Would be nitemare for the tournament to have no nadal, djokovic or Murray in semis! Hope I am wrong and djokovic comes through somehow

With the match starting at 8pm, Ferrer is more likely to save his energy for the Semi.

You'd think he'd try to top the group still though wouldn't you Tenez? Surely he'd feel he has more chance of beating Tsonga then Federer?

This Djoko reminds me a lot the Djoko that first qualified to the Masters...in 2007? He played all his RRs without caring of the results. This year he only cared about not losing to Berdych.

Tipsy with possibly the worst HE challenge in history, but he wins on the next point as Nole nets. Djokovic now relying on Ferrer to lose to Berdych tonight to progress, but he looks to me like he doesn't particularly want to anyway...

Re: ATP World Tour Finals 2011, London Calling
Djokovic almost looked relieved to be finished with that match. If I was him I would kick the feet up and have a few beers! 3 slams, 5 masters and 2 other titles this year along with reaching world number one. Suspect he won't be losing any sleep tonight. Also this is a tournament he has already won before. Shame he could not go further but can hardly blame the guy for losing some motivation!

Ferrer vs Berdych is now a winner takes the group, and plays Tsonga in the semi.
If Ferrer loses, he will play Federer in the semi. But if Berdych loses, he is out, and Djokovic will play Federer in the semi.

Does djokovic still go through even if berdych loses in 3 sets. Would that not mean berdych has won more sets or does it come down to head to head??

2) Regardless of score, if J. TIPSAREVIC defeats N. DJOKOVIC and D. FERRER defeats T. BERDYCH, then D. FERRER wins the group and N. DJOKOVIC qualifies 2nd.

not really carrie, up and down, Nole looked good in the first but then stuttered while Tipsy grew in confidence after some tough holds at the start of the second. both hit far more UEs than winners.

he played the best he could under the circumstances. No need to bust his match unfit body, win and then turn up semi-dead for the semi tomorrow.
He is not spent after this match and will have a little bit left in the tank for Federer should Ferrer beat Berdy.

what a complete farse to the end of season finals, quite shocking. If the ATP dont wake up and realise the need for players to rest and remove unwanted events then showcase events like this will unfold like this. Basically you can relate this to football and the world cups at the end of long seasons, where the quality of the tournament is poor in relation to early grand slams or champions league football earlier in the year. Federer's name should be carved into the trophy already.

I don't think Novak was trying to tank the match. More likely preserve some energy should he have to play tomorrow.

The players have the ability to manage their schedules, outside of the 13 mandatory tournaments (4 slams and 9 Masters). Federer does manage it very well.
If court speeds and attrition Tennis can be addressed by ATP/ITF, it would provide a bit of assistance as well.
Nadal skipped Paris, Djokovic and Federer skipped the Asian swing. They had ample rest.
Pretty sure Nadal will put up a good display against Argentina in DC.

Djokovic didn't skip anything for rest. He was injured. If he hadn't been injured he would've not lost to Ferrer and Tipsarevic in London.

Exactly laver - shorten the schedule too dramatically and you will affect the lower ranked players and their livelihood, and therefore the sport will suffer. The Masters series has excellent prize money precisely because they can sell tickets to see the top players - make less mandatory, and that will fall.
Speed up the courts. Fed managed to win three slams a year, three times and the end of year championships in the same years. Furthermore, on two of those years he was in 4 slam finals - nobody was screaming about shortening the season then!
And your last point laver Just watch Nadal destroy his opponents when his feet hit the clay next week John.

Really sad to see Novak out - Fed did say that it was anyone's tournament this week, so the surprises may not be over yet - is it time for Tsonga to step up, or for little Daveeed to be completely heroic?
How can anyone think there is no sport worth watching just because 3 of the top four have bitten the dust?

quick pre warn guys, the maximum number of posts on an article is 990, therefore the system will automatically split this topic in two and start a new one off, unless someone wants to make a new article with a fancy OP etc.

Agree NiTB. Djokovic played lights-out in 2011. His body is tired. He needs a break. Let us see what Berdych-Ferrer have to say about that.
