I don't think an extra week is exactly a problem, in this case especially because all teams will be included mostly. Reckon it could work in the format you gave.

So extend the season by a week, and have 4 groups of 4, with the winners of each group making the semi finals.

Cup week 1-3 - 3 group games
Cup week 4 - semi finals
Cup week 5 - final

Yeah, I mean it's only one extra round, and that extra round includes all teams so there are fewer weeks 'off', which I think is a good thing.

That is if this is the format you want to go for of course, it's your cup.

Would that format make it easier to have teams tied with the same points and same GD?

Just have to deal with it the way real comps do, with goals scored, then goals conceded, then if all fails, draw lots.

A cup should be a cup, no need to make it longer we've got the league for that.

I'll probably just go with what it is now, but with a minimum number of U21 players on the pitch at all times, a different way to decide drawn games, and prize money for the winner and losing finalist to make it worth doing well in.

The U-21 thing is not fair considering we have a limit of 25 players, I don't want an u-21 eating up space I could give to an established pro. It's ageism.

I think the squad limit should be increased if we're adding U21s. I don't think I have a single one, purely because I don't see why I should play them.

How about 2 cups then?

The Markion Cup - Groups, Semi, Final
The Capital One Cherries cup - as it is now

I think under 23s would be better Marky

Its up to Hero if the squad size goes up, but what I would do if I didn't have enough U21 players is swap 3 of my fringe players for U21 players, by selling/releasing and bringing in new players via TP's.

I don't think it needs to, if it's three U21s and they were immune to injury in cup week, then there is plenty of room in a 25 man squad

I think the age limit is a great idea-think I put it down on one of my media page answers. And there is no need to increase the squad limit. You just have to change your squad and manage it better . Its not like there is no notice given.

I already have 2 20 year olds in Alaba and Caulker. So getting in another won't be hard, but I just generally think it should be U23 tbh.

I don't mind either way OK Glad the cup will be good again lol

I think if it was u23 then the teams would hardly change tbh, I imagine most sides have 3 at that age already in their first team.

There must be no fewer than 3 U21 players on the pitch at any time in a cup tie.

This means if you sub a U21 player off, a U21 player would have to replace him.

Loved it as well, few bits were perhaps a little slow paced and introverted for Britain but on a whole thought it was excellent, even watched it again this morning with the kids (though fast forwarded through the bit with the countries coming out).

Good to see the Nigerian flagbearer Dave Benson Phillips.

I enjoyed the whole event, Danny Boyle did a great job and the GOSH stuff was a nice touch. I'm waiting to hear we spend 3/4th's of the Olympic budget on fireworks...

What did you think of the ceremony? It cost £27 million - money well spent? #SSN

That's how much was spent. Compared to Beijing who roughly spent $300 million that's quite cheap lol

Anyways, Marky's cup with under 21s. When is the cut off (in case people turn 22 during the competition)?
