England VS Scotland Discussion
First topic message reminder :
Quite looking forward to this game, anyone know what sort of attendance is expected? I reckon could be closer than people think. A few of my English mates reckon 4-0 or 5-0 wins but just don't think that'll happen tbh, hopefully I'm not wrong! Wish game culd have been at Hampden so there would have been cracking atmosphere but I'm hoping Wembley surprises me although I'm not expecting it. I hope to see Bridcutt play, not seen too much of him but impressed by limited amount I've seen. And I hope Rooney plays too.

Lovely play by Ross Barkley, wins the ball in midfield, drives and finishes nicely.

Now I know that our defense is entirely new, there are plenty out of position etc but I only expected to concede 4 goals!

Yeah throw Hodgson out of the first team and keep him at Under 21 level. Bring in a better manager for first team.

Roy's doing a fine job at the moment with the limited talent pool we currently have, certainly can't think of anybody available who could do a better job

Roy Hodgson is the best man to manage England, no one understands them better, and his tactics are spot on.

We've got a brilliant record under Hodgson. It's not his fault other countries have better players.
Re: England VS Scotland Discussion
Technical-ability wise, we are behind a few countries.CFCNick wrote:We've got a brilliant record under Hodgson. It's not his fault other countries have better players.
But when it comes to tactics, organisation, defence, and shape, there is no team better than England. And that's why England are so difficult to beat. Only lost 2 competitive games in 5 and a half years, I think?
And that's why England can win the world cup next year.

I can't see us losing a game in Brazil next year. We'll probably have to win a penalty shoot-out though, if we want to go all the way, because we're bound to draw a quarter-final or semi-final.
The only team to possibly worry England are the Germans.

ONLY the Germans??!
Brazil?
Spain?
Italy?
France?
Even the bloody Argies??
Even Belgium are better on a H2H basis.
Seriously, do you sleep in a Union Jack duvet set at night and pleasure yourself to images of the Battle of Britain and George slaying the dragon??!

Name me one time he's played well for England Tophat. Don't care about his Utd form. He's been cracking there. Not seen him replicate that in an England shirt.

Spain - Just made for England to play them and beat them.
Italy and France - If they can't beat an injury-wrecked England at Euro 2012, what hope do they have?
Argentina - Too reliant on Messi. Might work in '86 but not in 2014.
Belgium - England are just better.
Ukraine - The referee mugged us. Defoe's goal was chalked off for what?TopHat24/7 wrote:Last season we drew against the following: Ukraine, Poland, Montenegro and ROI. Poland - The waterlogged pitch scuppered England too much.
Montenegro - Roy was a bit negative, and happy with a point.
ROI - Was a pointless end of season friendly.

There probably isn't a better option than Carrick at his position. But his competition isn't exactly great. I mean Huddlestone, Parker, Rodwell, Barry?! Not exactly a great talent pool to pick from (Rodwell would be good if he could stay fit)
Still doesn't mask that he's been pants for England. I'd rather look towards putting a youngster in there post 2014 anyways

Agree the talent pool is dross. Wasn't making Carrick out to be Maradonna, was saying he's the best we've got in that position and your derision was a little unjustified.
The fact Barry has picked ahead of Carrick for so long was an absolute tragedy.

seriously, how does this guy appear to run this england international forum. id' prefer parker over carrick anyday.....haha. i guess you think cleverley is the next zidane aswell. people like this are the reason i'm actually am not interested that much in england nowadays. under negative roy, it's just painful to watch. our results have been embarrassing. to fail to beat montenegro on multiple occassions, poland, ireland and more is just woeful. we dont have the players, simple as. they dont perform like they do for their club because there playing in different teams, have no understanding of each other's games, tactically held back and made to look superior than what they are by the influx of foreigners who they play with. pretty much sums it up. expect we'll beat scots tonight but it have no impact whatsoever on how we will turn out in the qualifiers......completely pointless.

We have 'good young players' coming through. I'd back the lad you've already mentioned - Rodwell - if he hadn't thrown his career down the pan chasing the cash at Citeh.
But none are ready, or better, now.

As a depressed Scotland fan I can confirm that England will have zero chance at the next world cup and are not among the top five or six best teams. Whilst England are made fun of everywhere else for their optimism (I will never be in England during major tournament again, it was hilarious), I do actually think you are on the up but nowhere near the best

England are massively underrated right now.
Possibly to make up for the way we were embarrassingly overrated in 2006 and 2010, when we didn't have a chance but the media seemed to think we did.

Re: England VS Scotland Discussion
You can't appreciate the quality of the team we had in 2006. You were only nine.
Ashley Cole, JT, Rio, Lampard, Joe Cole and Gerrard all in their prime, Rooney would have been great but got injured in an accident with Paolo Ferreira. Beckham still had it. The subs bench wasn't so inspiring (17 year old Theo, 19 year old Lennon, and 21 year old Downing, also had Jenas) but the team we had from 2003 to 2007 was fantastic.
Without a dodgy ref in Euro 2004 we would have won it. Fully fit Rooney in 2006? Who knows? We had the chance to be what Spain are now and all of those players are old/didn't fulfil their potential. It'll probably be another 3 years until the current crop reach that quality.
Or was I just a naïve teenager like you are???
