Tonight's action- thread
First topic message reminder :
Evening guys,
I'm stuck at work and the internet's so slow here I can't get a stream to work for tonights action. Any chance we can get a live round by round thread going, particularly interested in Skeete-Gavin and Saunders-Eubank.
Cheers!

Gradovich by at least three rounds for me. Not sure how Velez has got a draw from that.

I like Terence Crawford a lot, seems a nice guy, got shot in the head, what a lucky git....

Was just going to comment on the in-right weights, John. 153 lb apiece? Ridiculous.

Puts the Gamboa performance into perspective. Little 5'5 Yuriorkis really was punching well above his weight.

Well he was around that in the fight before that.
This should be fun though.

Beltran couldn't get close in round 2.
Can anyone wait for Lemeiux Vs. Rosado can only imagine that's a war.

I didn't even know Rosado/Lemieux was happening, that's awesome!
As backfoot boxers go I find Crawford very pleasing to watch.

Re: Tonight's action- thread
Crawford's defence pretty immaculate so far. Not really letting his hands go and happy to let Beltran come to him, but he's the only one landing clean shots right now and he knows where he is every second of this fight so far.

Haha, this is getting fun, great stuff from both guys. Crawford is so amazing to watch under pressure, his footwork is terrific, he doesn't walk, he glides.

Get a feeling Beltrans trying to do it smart but might end up needing to be a bit more wreckless, but you kinda feel like that's falling right into Crawfords trap.

Better from Beltran in 4 and 5, but not enough to win the rounds outright in my eyes.

12 power punches to Crawfords 7 in that one.

Re: Tonight's action- thread
Beltran is a tough guy, but he's struggling so much with the footwork of Crawford and that beautifully timed jab.

Re: Tonight's action- thread
His generalship and defense is so effortless, the guy's coordination is immense. I don't even notice he's switched stances sometimes he does it so seemlessly. Most guys go from boxer athlete to ungainly mong when they switch under pressure.

I struggle to see how Beltran will achieve anything on the backfoot.

Re: Tonight's action- thread
His jab (when he's throwing it from the southpaw stance), footwork and anticipation of the shots coming his way look super-impressive most of the time, Alex. Just think he boxes within himself a little and could do with adding some bits to his inside game. He's shown he's a capable (if unspectacular) puncher and he's obviously huge at 135, so I'd like to see him show a bit more confidence in his ability to be the aggressor now and then. Although in fairness, the seventh just then wasn't bad round in that respect.

Re: Tonight's action- thread
Good exchanges in the centre of the ring that round, but too quick at times is Crawford, but you can see that Crawford loves to have a bit of a fight though, can't you?

Re: Tonight's action- thread
I know what you mean Chris, but I think it's part of his game, to remain super relaxed. His demeanour I suppose but maybe it's about his stamina, keeps him in check for the 12 round distance?

Re: Tonight's action- thread
Aye, could well be Alex. I guess you can't argue with success (and shouldn't tamper too much with it, either). Anyway, he's boxed a good fight here and Beltran's not really had a sniff.

Beltran seriously rocked towards the end of the round there. Think Crawford might go for the jugular in the next couple.

Re: Tonight's action- thread
Jarred at the end of the eleventh, too. If Crawford could force a stoppage in the twelfth it would turn a good showing in to a really excellent one. Is he willing to throw caution to the wind a bit to satisfy his home town fans?....

Get the feeling Crawford will be very entertaining for a few years don't ya?
Exciting fight even though it was one sided. Had it 11-1.

Re: Tonight's action- thread
Other than maybe the first round that was Crawford throughout. Pleasure to witness.
Crawford has the sort of style I'd love to see Mayweather fight. I think I wrote a thread yonks ago about how he hasn't faced a pure boxer in many years.

He was willing to give it a go for the KO but Beltran is very tough and very experienced.

Re: Tonight's action- thread
2 judges scored it a shutout and one only gave Beltran a round.
Crawford would be roughly the same size as Mayweather on the night you would imagine.
At 140 against Pacman, I would give him a serious chance. Would be a very tough tussle.

Re: Tonight's action- thread
119-109 x 2 and 120-108. UD for Crawford in a fight where he was a class above from the opening bell.
A good showing, if a bit of an uninspiring one. Great footwork, defence and jab, but maybe a bit too slow-burning and safety-first (for the first six rounds or so, anyway) for some people's taste. But Crawford is clearly a lavishly talented fighter.
Will repeat what I said yesterday - I think he's the best Lightweight in the world for sure, but I'd like to see him get a unification bout just to put the cherry on top of that little cake. But after that (or if he can't get that), it should be up to 140. Re-hydrating 18 lb after the weigh in just puts a slight black mark next to his achievements as a Lightweight, for me, and a win over someone like Matthysse or Garcia could confirm him as one of the world's best. Don't think there are enough lucrative or daunting fights at 135 to do that at the moment.

This fight Night weight business is a joke. They both came in heavier than Pacquiao and Mayweather and are like two divisions below them!
