Smackdown Taping Results 17/8/11 **Spoilers***

It was announced that there will be a 20-man battle royal to determine the No. 1 contender to the World Heavyweight Championship.

1. Cody Rhodes defeated Ezekiel Jackson to retain the Intercontinental Title. Cody won clean with CrossRhodes.

2. Justin Gabriel defeated Tyson Kidd. Gabriel won with the 450 splash.

3. Alberto Del Rio defeated Daniel Bryan in a non-title match. Del Rio won by submission with the cross arm breaker.

4. Kelly Kelly and A.J. defeated Natalya and Alicia Fox.

5. Mark Henry won a battle royal to become the new No. 1 contender to the World Hvt. Championship. The final four were Henry, Sin Cara, Wade Barrett, and Sheamus. It came down to Henry and Sin Cara, and Henry eliminated him to get the win.

There was a staredown with Randy Orton and Mark Henry, which likely closed the show.

1. Randy Orton and Sheamus defeated Alberto Del Rio and Christian. Orton and Sheamus won following an RKO from Randy.

why is Del Rio on the show?

He was invited by Teddy Long.

So Orton v Henry for the title, well I'm bristling with anticipation at the promos between them.

And probably because it was in Mexico, Hobo. Hence Sin Cara being eliminated last.

Was Christian at the taping?

What next for him I wonder....

Henry is obviously going to be squashed by Orton, there is no way they will put the title on Henry.

It made me laugh the other day when I watched a video about Mark Henry's history in WWE, which was posted on wwe.com a few days ago, so during the push he has at the moment, where they genuinly mentioned the birth of the hand!

Gabriel is a face now - not sure where he will be heading with it though.

Where was Christian? Did he get injured against Orton as it was odd that he wasn't in the Battle Royal at all.

The advantage of reading the spoilers is that you don't have to listen to Michael Cole being a tool.

Randy Orton will easily squash Henry in this feud. By that time someone will have returned or have been drafted over

I think I heard on here a couple of months ago that Henry's retiring at some point next year - when his contract runs out. Might they give him the strap for a brief run as a goodbye present?

Henry had to get involved in the title scene, he has been pushed brilliantly by the WWE but I'd have used him to cost Orton the World Title at SummerSlam before becoming WHC at fatal-4-way then having Orton chase Henry for the title

Trent Barretta and Tatsu were out before Curtis btw.

He has been pushed brilliantly, I just wish it wasn't Orton who was going to ulitmately go over him as he doesn't need that push where as Sheamus would, and I was sure that because Henry didn't beat him clean at Summerslam they were going to continue that feud rather than have Mark Henry move onto Orton.

i appreciate it was without ads, but even then the show is usually about 90mins long

I am not impressed with the Smackdown. So many things that could of made it a good show but it seemed some what of a rushed show.

I am fairly sure Christian is having the week off to sell the match against Randy Orton, hence Randy didn't compete either.

Not sure what he will do now though a feud with Sheamus looks the most likely option and could be a good bet for both.

I agree a Christian v Sheamus feud could be good and would make sense. I really wanted Wade Barret to win the battle royal but it was so obvious Mark Henry was going to win it.
