Alabama beat Clemson 45-40 to win the title. Their RB Derrick Henry also won the Heisman last month, beating out Stanford's Christian McCaffrey and Clemson's Deshaun Watson.

Personally, I thought McCaffrey should have won the Heisman. He's electric.

Worth mentioning that Jim Harbaugh either really enjoys recruiting, or has lost his mind: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000626917/article/jim-harbaughs-wild-week-tree-climbing-sleepover-and-more

Baylor have fired Art Briles, which can only mean the report into their handling of sexual assaults must be devastating. Could see a similar discussion to Penn State in terms of punishment.

Louisville's QB Lamar Jackson is quite something. Matchup nightmare.

Lamar Jackson won the Heisman, and Clemson beat Alabama to win the title.

Next up is National Signing Day. I like the 247 Composite rankings, which weighs the big recruiting rankings. Lot of names you'll know if you look through the past seasons.

Awful lot of talk that Chip Kelly is going to be the new Florida HC, and nobody seems in any hurry to kill the idea that Jon Gruden is going to Tennessee.

This season's coaching carousel is already an absolute circus: UCLA fired Jim Mora to swoop in for Kelly, Florida are throwing $6 million/year at Mississippi State's Dan Mullen, and reports that Tennessee had a deal with Greg Schiano went down so well with fans that they hastily broke off talks.

you only appreciate how bad Butch Jones was at Tennesse when you watch Alvin Kamara play for the Saints and wonder why on earth he wasn't the featured back

Also treated Schiano disgracefully. What a bum college

It looks more and more likely that Jimbo Fisher is going to jump from Florida State to Texas A&M, and Arizona State are hiring Herm Edwards. Erm

Texas A&M are following up the fully guaranteed contract that means they have to fork over $10 million to Kevin Sumlin at some point in the next two months with a fully guaranteed, 10 year, $75 million contract for Jimbo Fisher.

Speaking of things that are bound to end well, the Tennessee coaching search fiasco has claimed the job of their Athletic Director.

Playoffs this year:
Clemson (1) v (4) Alabama
Oklahoma (2) v (3) Georgia

Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield won the Heisman trophy.

Tennessee found a coach: Alabama DC Jeremy Pruitt. Fun fact: Nick Saban has yet to lose to one of his former assistants.

Herm Edwards didn't appear to know that Arizona State are the Sun Devils at his introductory press conference, and there's a video out there of him being baffled by the size of modern jerseys. So that's going well. Fun fact: Arizona State's AD is his former agent.

Playoffs:
Alabama (1) v (4) Oklahoma
Clemson (2) v (3) Notre Dame

Just like last year the Heisman went to the Oklahoma QB. Unlike Mayfield, Kyler Murray probably won't be going first overall in the draft; he already went 9th overall in the MLB draft in the summer so he's supposed to be done with football now (although he doesn't sound quite as sure as his agent).

USC snapped up Kliff Kingsbury as their OC.
On the HC front it's all a little bit retro: Mack Brown back at North Carolina, Les Miles will try and turn around the barren wastleland that is Kansas, and Jim McElwain will be hoping the shark memes don't follow him to Central Michigan.
Urban Meyer's retiring again (plenty for conspiracy fans there), as is Bill Snyder, while Paul Johnson is doing it for the first time (sad day for fans of the triple option).

Urban Meyer will be back in coaching by this point next year - and think the committee got the final four spot on.

I also agree Murray doesn't sound sure - everyone is like there's more money to be made in MLB - but it will also take a lot longer and there are plenty more bumps in the road before he gets to such a deal. If he plays football he's likely the #1 overall pick (top 5 at very worst) and gets a big deal to begin with - let alone if he actually ends up being good he'd be making $35-$40m a year at the point he'd be getting a new deal

I don't know if I'd go that far. It's a weak QB class, so someone would probably talk themselves into him, but top 5 seems high for a QB that's (at best) the size of Julian Edelman.

Late contender for strangest coaching hire: Mark Richt decided now would be a great time to retire at Miami, who went straight out and paid 4 million dollars to buy out the Temple HC... who was the Miami DC less than a month ago.

Bet those Temple recruits are incredibly happy about that...

Semi finals were duds unfortunately - Notre Dame completely overmatched against Clemson, and Alabama kept Oklahoma at arms length. Trevor Lawrence is a ridiculous prospect

It's not really a franchise QB name either, sounds more like D-lineman. Got two years to get used to it before he goes 1st overall though (imagine what you could get for that pick if you already had your QB Shocked ).

Last time Alabama lost by at least 20 was 2003... to Nick Saban's LSU.

LSU beat Clemson 42-25 in the national title game, first time the nr. 1 seed has won the playoff. Their QB Joe Burrow won the Heisman too.

Mississippi hired Lane Kiffin and Missisippi State hired Mike Leach, so that could be fun. Greg Schiano is back in charge at Rutgers.

Burrow's season the best ever by a college QB?

His accuracy and timing are insanely good.

Not sure I'd stake the mortgage on it...

Also, while Burrow has amazing numbers, the accounts I've read suggest his receiving corps is rather special as well, so his skill might not be as immediately obvious in the NFL where this disparity (pro level receivers v college level DBs) will be reduced. Having said that, the Bengals are one of the teams that very seriously needs a new star QB, so it is the obvious selection.

Interesting looking back on the above discussion a couple of years down the line, with Burrow and his college team mate Ja'marr Chase having led the Bungles to a Superbowl.
