A/C joint stands for acromioclavicular joint. Its the bit at the front of your shoulder where your collar bone (clavicle) meets the shoulder (acromium process) Its a fairly major part of the shoulder joint but from the sounds of it he's only got a grade I strain which is a good prognosis and he could be back for the semi final if we make it... Unlikely to be back for Wales, maybe on the bench but definitely not starting.

What makes this injury slightly worse is the fact that Rory is a hooker and so needs to be able to do an overhead throw, which would aggravate any injury to the A/C joint so it could still be touch and go but from the sounds of things if they have him doing manipulations already it shouldn't be all that bad!

Its a strange stat but both teams are now down to their 3rd choice hookers with Rees and Hibbard out for Wales. Rory was looking great and is a very personable and popular guy - hope he's ok for the future as its a bad place for a hooker to have a problem thumbsup

Just see that Mike Sherry has been called up as cover for Best in case he fails to recover.

Gutted for Best if his tournaments over.

Time for Cronin and Varley to step up to the plate.

BBC Sport have reported that Mike Sherry is to join the Ireland squad as a precautionary measure. Still hopeful that Best can regain fitness.

I'm embarrassed to say I just had to Wiki Mike Sherry. I don't remember him!

Its a difficult one with injuries and I guess with Mike Sherry its a case of any port in a storm. I don't think Ireland are scraping the barrel here though. thumbsup

Sherry is the young Munster back-up hooker right?

I'm starting to think that my joke posts from a month ago about the Welsh world cup hopes resting on Huw Bennetts shoulder's are coming true.

How justified will Gatland be if Bennett has stormers for the next 2 weeks and we somehow end up in the final with a decent lineout for the first time in years because of HUW BENNETT.

the irony hurts.

gutted for Rory best, he's an excellant scrummaging hooker, hows Cronin in the set-piece? I know he's good in the loose, but he's not had any Heineken cup experience has he? Will this really deal a blow to what was becoming a scrum to be reckoned with? What with Adam Jones and Geth back and starting to fire, think wales could get the upper hand here now.

cronin is not a bad scrumager but not as good as best. his lineout throwing needs works. he tends float them.

His scrummaging is average but his lineout work is quite poor for international standard.

He does run excellent support lines though!

In fairness there was a while were bests throwing was poor aswell
i think POC instills a confidence in his throwers and bests throwing has been very good in this world cup, but was poor in stages in the 6nations, with a week of work with the lineout i expect cronin to hit his jumpers

Cronin did alright when he came on for Best. I think he missed one lineout, but if I remember correctly the ball was spot on, but the jumping was messy. Some of his darts were difficult catches, though, so he does need to zip them more.

His performance against Russia was his best in an Ireland shirt. Ok, it's hard to be sure when the opposition were getting 60-odd points put on them, but his support running was excellent and he could have been in for a try on two separate occasions had the ball been popped to him.

When he first came on to the scene he looked completely lost and tended to shy away from committing himself too much to rucks and tackles. But I've noticed a change in him and in the Oz game he looked composed. I think he's no longer star struck and is mentally in a better place now and is playing with confidence.

He was having a great tournament and i would have put him in the team of the cup if he continued. Whereas both teams now have 3rd choice hookers, Bennet is playing better than ever and has a lot of match time.

A big loss for Ireland and could make a big difference come lineout and scrum time.

If he can't play through a broken collar bone he doesn't deserve to be at the world cup I say. Honestly, they don't make them like the used to.
