First topic message reminder :

So then people what really annoys you.

No matter how gig or trivial it is, this is the thread to vent your anger and annoyance.

I shall start this with:

Starburst. They are not Starburst, they are Opel Fruits and always will be. And don't get me started on Snickers. STOP CHANGING THE NAME OF SWEETS!!!!

Some open plan offices are a nightmare. One thing I used to hate in an open plan office, is being constantly disturbed by people using the office like a social club, and popping across from one section to another just for a chinwag - and they'd be at it for about an hour before doing any work. They can see others around them trying to work but they carry on...

I also hated the state the communal kitchen got into. Is it really difficult for people to throw out old food they don't eat instead of leaving it in the fridge for years? Or washing the dishes they've just used? Or wiping out the microwave after their dinner has exploded in it? Honestly...I really used to wonder about the state of some people's kitchens at home.

That's the thing Cari. I've worked for massive global organisations in open plan offices before. This place is a small company. As I said, the office is a converted residence. There are 5 of us in an "open plan" office the size of a large living room.

You would think that would limit the "social club" mentality, but it doesn't. There are still people in here that have people from the other office through to chat. It's a massive pain and gives me no end of annoyance.

FOF - I don't have a problem with people talking at their desks as they're working. What does annoy me, is people standing around at other desks and chatting for over an hour, then having the cheek to dump work on other people's desks expecting them to do it; and then complaining about how busy it is and nothing's getting done! There has to be balance. You are paid to do a job whether you like it not, and it's just not fair to expect others to do your work because you were too busy socialising in the office.

Another work related one...

Colleagues you walk past or speak to on the phone who say, "Did you see my e-mail?"

I once said to one guy for a laugh (with a serious tone), "Yes, I saw it was from you so I just deleted it".

I don't think so. That really grinds my gears. That's proper sentence, no? Anyway, the lack of quotation marks is what's getting my goat!

I've got this horrible situation developing. furious

Some noisy b@stard in the apartment above is always tapping away, scraping things and worst of all... making this annoying sound of dragging timber legs of tables & chairs across his balcony tiles. I'm thinking of slipping a note under the door... or better still - knock on the door and tell them to "please lift your blydi furniture!" steam laughing

Linebreaker - I remember a couple of years ago I used to have the most pig ignorant people living below me. One night at about two in the morning I was suddenly woken up by a lot of banging and hammering downstairs. I went to complain and it turned out they were dismantling a wardrobe and bed. They just couldn't understand why I had a problem with that! I wonder about the mentality of people sometimes. Rolling Eyes

Nutrient tables on products that give figures for different measurements than the actual contents. For example, a 250ml carton of milk has a nutrient table for 'per 100ml'. What's the point in that? I want to know what's in the bloody carton.

Kids, or screaming kids to be precise. It was bad enough that I spent some of the long holiday weekend laying patio slabs but next doors Grandbrat spent the entire time I was in the back garden running around their garden just screaming as loud as possible. Was out there for over 4 hours and it never stopped. I tried the ipod but he was louder than that, we could even hear it over the tv in our (detached house) with all the doors and windows closed and the bad thing is that it's mum just sat on their deck talking as if it wasn't happening. Thinking about it I'm changing this entry to parents who do not control their children really grind my gears.

I think it's a Canadian thing, can't remember it being as bad in the UK before moving out here. I would have received a firm clip to the back of the head if I had done anything like that as a kid. It's what helped me to become the misserable bugger that I am today.

I'm getting that every afternoon here now. You can almost set your watch by it.

These kids playing - well I'm happy for that but this one girl has this ear-splitting scream which happens every 30 seconds or so for long periods of time. The sound travels up from their yard which is about 50m away - but you can still hear almost every word in isolation and the high-pitched squeals. They were playing this game the other day and you could hear them all counting! Laugh

It kinda made me feel all left out... Crying or Very sad

I've seen plenty of people wearing a t-shirt and a scarf. If it's warm enough for a t-shirt, you don't need a scarf; if it's cold enough for a scarf, why the hell are you walking around in a t-shirt?

I was walking home last night on a narrow pavement that runs alongside a busy trunk road through the city. There's a guy in front of me dawdling along in the middle of the pavement oblivious to me behind him trying to get passed. So I politely say "excuse me please" so I can get by him on the pavement, and not get run over by having to step into the road, and he tuts at me muttering complaints under his breath. That p*sses me off no end. So much for having manners!

What really winds me up is when people say the price of stamps are going up. No it's not you imbecile! The cost of postage is going up. A one penny stamp is still going to cost one penny, it just won't get your letter to its destination anymore.

I really want to call them copulation wits but I think the profanity filter will kick in.

Cari, the annoying thing about that is that it's really not hard to be courteous. It's the easiest thing in the world to say 'thank you' so I can't understand why people don't say it.

Lucky - I usually say a sarcastic "Why thank you" loudly but even then some people are oblivious. My mother always taught me that manners don't cost anything but they go a long way and she was right.

You have to conclude that some people just weren't raised to say 'please' and 'thank you.' I stop off a few mornings a week to buy milk on the way to work and some people who buy things before me just dump their stuff on the counter, hand over their money, take their change and leave without saying a word to the cashier. That's just so rude.

It's a shame because then it makes other people who do have manners irritable. I've seen it happen to drivers on the road as well. They let someone out and don't get it acknowledged, and the other driver gets the hump.

No excuses for bad manners but it is understandable sometime with the level of customer service in this country. Regardless, I would always say thanks, but sometimes people on the till or whatever are completely devoid of the personality to do the job.

Liver - I think it works both ways. I've worked in customer services and I found that if I was really pleasant and polite to people it would rub off on most, but some members of the public are just downright rude to the point of disgust. I blame this "customer is always right" ethos which came from somewhere. No, the customer isn't always right actually so don't take it out on the staff because you can't get your own way.
