Farrel did not really threaten that much either pooly. With the slow litter youngs was throwing out it was a bit unfair on the backs full stop.

However as myself and pretty much every pundit says Barrit does not have enough in attack for international level. Deserves to keep his place against another poor side in italy but wait until we play ireland or france,

I think we also have to remember this is an easy 6 nations for England in that they have Wales and Ireland at home.

I think we will be 4th as we were in the betting. bookies not often wrong.

We are massively deluding ourselves if we think we are any better.

a back 5 of Lawes, Palmer, Wood, Robshaw, Morgan really lacks ball carrying for me but most importantly of all i think that backrow lacks explosivity and dynamism

I thought Farrell did ok, in that he didnt make any mistakes, did well with the boot etc. Lot to build on there, especially as he's only 20. I dont think you can drop him as with both FLood and Hodgson I think you need his kicking game.

From what I've read of Lancaster's interviews Flood isnt going to walk back into the team at all, might even have to go and get some more gametime at TIgers this week, might not be a bad thing as could benefit England in later games, as best to give him 80mins than get 20mins for England.

We desperately need Manu back - didnt realise that ENgland didnt make a single line break versus Scotland at the weekend. Shocking.

The answer to the lack of carrying is Matt Garvey. When it is decided he is good enough then he will be a huge pluus for the England side. Do need a lineout specialist with him though. He and Lawes in the row would need Croft and Wood in the back row which just isn't going to happen I don' think.

The amount we all speculate on here shows how hard it is to get a balance. I always like garvey but think he needs to have a full season playing like he is to merit a place

If you have a back 5 in the pack of 4. Garvey 5. Lawes 6. Robshaw 7. Wood 8. Morgan you have physicality and ball carrying and enough lineout options to compete.

Lawes cannot call the lineout, but is an athletic jumper. Wood can call the lineout. Add in the front row that played on Saturday and I think that is a pack that can compete with all of the other NH packs given a bit of time to gel.

thats fair enough matt i would agree, would want garvey involved in the summer

i like attwood but garvey is different gravy
the amount irish rely on him for carrying, tackling, workrate is ridiculous
he does it all

I think that pack would get taken apart at the lineout by France and possibly Ireland. Wood can do it but not even close to aswell as POC and France do it.

I am not saying that we would have a fantastic lineout, but we would have enough to secure our own ball which is all we need to do.

Wales have a poor lineout, and they seem to be doing ok. All we would need to do is to play to our strengths, not our weaknesses.

I think we could well see Dickson and Flood. All depends on hodgsons fitness. I have seen some nonsense that flood playing would help youngs. Youngs was misfiring when Flood was playing and playing well so that is not going to solve it.

Flood was in really tasty form pre injury

Ferris citing is a nonsense, but now that he has been, he will get 1-2 weeks.

Davies will end up with about 5 weeks after mitigation of him pleading guilty and being a good boy previously.

I read that Davies reacted to Doncha putting an illegal hit on Adam Jones once a ball had left a ruck or maul - didnt see the incident yet, but seems very unlike Davies to spear tackle someone off the ball like that.

Looks like the IRB are looking to completely rule out lifting players off their feet in tackles - now Ferris has been cited can see him getting a small ban, even if it is for a week.

Ryan cleared Jones out of a ruck a bit over enthusiasticly but wasnt much wrong with it and Evans took issue.

Its a disgrace if Ferris gets a ban for that. Didnt take him off his feet at all. You see tackles like that every game you watch at the weekends

Hari for Bonnaire gives French great backrow, brought in for his lineout play apparently. Meastri will add to that too with Nallet struggling for form this season.

Had a fascinating session with Pete Anglesea the Sale coach today. Spent half the session training the brain to put your weight into the tackle properly. Very interesting stuff.

Talking to him in the bar was good as well. Very excited about Richie Gray coming, he was up scouting his brother for Scottish under 20's as well on friday night as he is supposed to be a player and a half.

He seemed fairly sure Sheridan will start on Friday night alongside Marc Jones and Buckley, Monster front row. Couldn't coax any other signings out of him, but he explained why Neil Briggs left and it doesn't leave Briggs in a good light. Also Sale trying to encourage aggression into training sessions, nearly wanting guys to be fighting.
