HCup Rd1 (Pool 5): Leinster (9) v (6) Exeter Chiefs @ RDS (15:40, Saturday 13 October 2012)
First topic message reminder :
Exeter get welcomed into the Heineken Cup with a fabulous opening fixture. Definitely a case of being thrown in at the deep end.
Leinster have been slow to kick into gear so far this season. We have been leaking points in all our games and have a good few injury doubts with names like Healy, Quinn Roux, SOB, McLaughlin, Ruddock, Dom Ryan, Boss, BOD, Darcy, O'Malley, Conway, Nacewa, Fitzgerald, Kearney all injuried to some degree or other.
That said, Leinster at home in the HCup I'm going for a Leinster win, Exeter not to get a LBP, and Leinster not to get a TBP!

Hmm, far more complicated than that, Jen!

The backline are versitle enought though, Madigan can play OH, Isa can play fullback, wing or OH, McFadden can go to the wing etc.
Our ball carrying should be improved with Healy back, very happy with that team given the injury list after last weeks game. Toner can feel a bit mifffed that he isn't starting though.

Agree re Toner, but Brownes ballast is a major asset. I think if it were anyone else but Leo, Toner would be packing down with Browne.
I've really enjoyed the Rabbo games so far but just can not wait for this weekends matches.

This happened to Munster before in a few games around 2005. Denis Leamy and David Wallace both ended up playing in the backline in a few games.
Re: HCup Rd1 (Pool 5): Leinster (9) v (6) Exeter Chiefs @ RDS (15:40, Saturday 13 October 2012)
Yeah Toner not starting is disappointing,I want to see him kick on this season but having said that I was impressed with Browne against Munster.
How is the Exeter set piece, can we expect to target their scrum as I doubt we can expect to do more than have parity in the lineout.

No oficial announcement from yet, but from Planet Rugby:
Exeter: 15 Luke Arscott, 14 Ian Whitten, 13 Phil Dollman, 12 Jason Shoemark, 11 Matt Jess, 10 Gareth Steenson, 9 Haydn Thomas, 8 Richard Baxter, 7 James Scaysbrook, 6 Tom Johnson, 5 James Hanks, 4 Tom Hayes, 3 Carl Rimmer, 2 Simon Alcott, 1 Brett Sturgess.
Replacements: 16 Chris Whitehead, 17 Chris Budgen, 18 Ben Moon, 19 Ally Muldowney, 20 Dean Mumm, 21 Will Chudley, 22 Ignacio Mieres, 23 Sireli Naqelevuki.
We've run out of backrowers in the Euro squad, so 2 locks on the bench. Steeno gets the shout ahead of Mieres at 10. Arscott must have passed his fitness test, good news. Rimmer may be a relative weakness at TH, but he'll be bolstered by Alcott in the scrum - Budgie is the stronger scrummager so we may see him and Whitehead come on together at about 60mins. Sireli is the impact sub in the backs - few better to run at tired bodies if there's the opportunity.

Boss has played in the back 3 a fair bit.
I would expect all our backs to play 80 mins though barring injury.
Perhaps the most knackered one will come off near the end otherwise.
Which may play into the hands of Knacker le view key. i.e running at tired bodies. Perhaps we will put big Leo on to run at him? (Nickname does not mean I think he is a knacker btw)
I have a feeling we will try to wrap this one up as early as possible. Whether we succeed or not is an other matter entirely.
Happy with the team. Happy that Rob and Darce were not rushed back. But perhaps Kev was?

I'd say Kev is grand, they said he was back in full training yesterday and he came out of it without any discomfort but they didn't say the same for Darcy and Kearney.

Dub, happy with that, altho is Ben White injured? Thought he did well against Quins and can count himself unlucky to miss out on a bench slot, but I'm guessing that Rob was keen to incorporate Dean Mumm somewhere. Set piece will be fine, imo, particularly if we can limit the number of scrums as we did so effectively against Quins. Steeno rewarded for his performance last weekend, and guess we might see Gonzo Camacho against Clermont? Happy daze. Early flight tomorrow, but all worth itDubbelyew L Overate wrote:No oficial announcement from yet, but from Planet Rugby:

I saw an article earlier in the week, E&E maybe, that said Whitey has picked up a medium term injury. With Phillips having a long term injury and Horstmann also laid up, that just leaves the usual triumvirate in the Euro squad. If there's another injury before next week, I guess Rob'll have to call Ewers into the squad.

He's doing really well, Rory, coming on leaps and bounds. I feel his long-term position is centre, hopefully in partnership with Jason Shoemark, but he's been playing good rugby on the wing too, covering for the absent Gonzo Camacho and the injured Josh Tatupu

Gotta say inspite of the injuries that Leinster backline is very good. Be an interesting game to watch, unfortunately I doubt I'll be able to catch it, what with running around before the Scarlets game!

The likes of tadhg beirne, furlong, leavy, van der flier, jock conan and jordan coughlan are all very young with bright futures. Leinster's academy is doing very well.
We have a really good chance of winning the cup this year.

This is the most interesting match up of the weekend for me.
It will be a great indication of how far Exeter have come on a long road of making it to the top flight of European club rugby.
They've earned their shot. If this was at Sandy Park I would be tipping a win, but Leinster should get the win in Dublin.
Exeter will have a big say in this pool.

I thought so - but they are rarely picked up.
Exeter showing exactly why they have been so competetive in the AP. Leinster have the class, but Exeter are all about spirit.
