Slightly over the top for someone caught smoking weed? Would rather there was stronger punishments handed out for fighters taking PEDs.

I believe Tarver was only fined £100k for a positive anabolic steroid test. In comparison, getting a £900k fine for smoking pot- you gotta feel for the kid!

JJC apparently to fight in June as soon as his suspension expires.

I actually think the dangers of weed and the effect of legalizing it tend to be overstated. Not everyone who smokes weed is an unfunctionable stoner, in the same way not everyone who drinks alcohol is an unfunctionable alcoholic. There is also a tendancy in my experience for people to think if you legalize weed then everyone is automatically going to rush out, buy it and become permantly stoned. I dont think this is the case at all.

The biggest arguments in favour of legalizing for me come down to freedom of choice, regulation and profits on sale.

In terms of freedom of choice, I think its reasonable to say a naturally growing plant should not be illegal. Especially in the context of tobacco and alcohol being readily available. Im not an expert on weed and its health effects but I have read that its not neccessarily more adictive or harmful than tobacco or alcohol. If people have the right to become morbidly obese through overeating, smoke tobacco until their lungs give out and drink until their livers cant handle it then I thinks its fair to argue that weed isnt far worse and should also be included as a right. If weed is enjoyed in moderation by users, much like alocohol is, then I doubt it would be any more of an anti-social drug than alcohol is at present.

Nah Il, you'd just have to go and sell it in america. Once they have it all other countries would follow suit. They actually rush through medicines without proper testing sometimes and tons of their industries are self regulated.

Considerably less, as you wont be punching peoples lights out in the streets after a night out. Also - my favourite choice of Khat - chewable leaves which get you high are much more dangerous in excess for the long term and dangerously addictive if used consistently over a few months and the drug board have rejected calls for it to be banned several times.

Picture this: You're at a gig or something like that, there's someone being obnoxious, causing trouble and starting fights. Are they on alcohol or weed?

ShahenshahG wrote:"Participants were frank about their substance abuse habits because they trust our confidentiality guarantee, and 96% of the original participants stuck with the study from 1972 to today.

"It is such a special study that I'm fairly confident that cannabis is safe for over-18 brains, but risky for under-18 brains."

From your article victor

That is talking about IQ and lack of education etc due to weed. The report states that is an under 18 smokes weed then they will cause irreversible damage to their brain which will affect their education and future employment. However it is important to note that the report is not talking about the negative effect of weed to the lungs or the skin or any other organs which would affect someone over 18. But I think it is clear from the research that weed damages a growing brain and has many negative effects on a child's life.

Any thread that compels manos to post non-boxing comments must be good. I don't recall seeing that before.

So is that an admittance of doing hard drugs & seeing the point, or rather the needle?

Closest I've seen was when he made that video parodying the brummy thug in the balaclava who had the run in with Khan.

Blimey, this is becoming an ATG thread. Shame it isn't really boxing related, interesting comments nonetheless.

A few comments on this, I used to smoke weed for many years and always advocated strongly for it to be legal.

However, it is a strange drug. For me and many people I know it is an all or nothing situation. It isn't supposed to be addictive yet without it I would be climbing the walls to get more.

Should it be legal is a difficult question, I smoked from when I was 16 until the age of 37 on and off. Everytime I stopped I would see a friend who had a joint and think to myself that a few tokes would be OK. Next day I was buying more because I remembered how much I enjoyed it - then I would spend the next month as a complete weed head until I realised it was taking over again.

For me it is something that I love and hate in equal measure. People may think it is that I have an addictive personality but I am more than capable of getting drunk one day and not wanting to drink again for weeks / months afterwards. Have also tried othe drugs and never had the same experience that I had with weed.

I know many others that act in a similar way, how many weed heads on here have arranged to get some from their dealer, only for him to kee messing you about with his 'I'll be 30 minutes' so in 45 minutes you chase him and he'll either be another 30 minutes on a rolling basis or his phone is off - yet you'll either waste an entire night waiting for it to come from the same guy or chase several others in order to get it quicker - this shouldn't be normal behaviour.

Regarding earlier comments about cartels, the majority of weed in the UK was grown in the UK. No real cartels as such would come into it, may be gang run but generally it isn't in the same league as some of the harder drugs.

I also think about whether I would want it to be legal knowing that my kids could try it. When I was younger I thought there would be nother better than having a spliff with my kids when they were old enough (before they were born I thought this) - yet now I wouldn't want to do that at all (I would however smoke it on my own should I ever find them with any!!!).

There is also increasing evidence that if a kid smokes before the age of 16-18 when they are still developing mentally that this can lead to issues later in life which would need to looked at.
