Wonder who will be in Unicorns side this year.....
Can't see Scotland getting many points apart from rained off matches.

Tom Lancefield among others. Released by Surrey without ever having been given much of chance in the first team he appeared early in the season for the Gloucs second team. Now the Unicorns - where he opened and his 38 at a decent rate...Corporalhumblebucket wrote: Wonder who will be in Unicorns side this year.....![]()

Not at as good a rate as Somerset got to their target! 184 off 15.3 overs, Tres and Trego the main destroyers!

Kent scrape home against Warks. With one wicket and two balls left Patel needed one to tie and two to tie. But he failed to score off the first and was run out of the second for a rapid 50.

Re: YB40 Thread
Just watching Jos Buttler taking Yorkshire to pieces on Sky, he's a bit good isn't he? Looking at his record it's fantastic, over 50 from 48 innings before today. Only 2 hundreds but 1/3 of his innings have been not out at the end which wuggests he should be higher than number 6 doesn't it?
Out for 89 off 51, that was absolutely brilliant

Ideally I'd think he should bat 5. Powerplays at the back of the innings so important these days that that's where you want your hitters (of course, if you don't lose many wickets up front he can always shuffle up to 4).

Agree Shelsey, I was having this discussion with someone on Twitter earlier. Ideally you want a flexible line up - if we're 10-2 or 20-3 don't bring him in but if we're 150-1 bring him in at 3 instead of Trott surely?
I could see him being in the Test side relatively soon if he gets some decent ODI runs this summer and if either Bairstow or Compton fail to impress.

I've written a preview for Gloucestershire v Middlesex - http://deepextracover.com/home/yb40-gloucestershire-v-middlesex-preview/.
In truth, I don't think Middlesex give a damn about the YB40. The Championship is the focus (and T20 a bonus) and I wouldn't be surprised if they lose tomorrow.

Re: YB40 Thread
In the end a fairly comfortable win for Yorks over the Unicorns by 5 wkts with more than an over to spare. However, it didn't look so straightforward when they were 4 down and still needed 100 plus. Perhaps not too surprising that the Unicorns seem to lack that killer instinct to force things home when they are in the ascendancy.

Yup. The Unicorns will be scrapped after this season, having proved mainly that the best talent is already in the county game. A couple of players have gone on to return to county cricket having played for them (most notably Wayne Durston) but I'm sure Durston would have found a county quite quickly without them. Otherwise, its been disappointing that they haven't really unearthed much hidden talent. Allied to the fact that generating support has proved difficult and I don't think they'll really be missed sadly.

Re: YB40 Thread
There is very little interest in floodlit YB40 games in cities on cold May evenings. I guess they are only scheduled to suit Sky. There probably was a bit of a crowd which was lost in the big stadium but, yes, a very small one.
Hopefully the ECB will have recognised this when they schedule their new 50-over competition next year but I'm not particularly hopeful as with Champ reportedly moving to Sunday-Wednesday and T20 on Fridays there doesn't seem to be room for a regular slot...

Re: YB40 Thread
Hmmm you say that, but Hove usually attracts good crowds for floodlit pro 40's. Helps because you can bring your own beers into the ground for 40 over games

There is admittedly considerable variation between venues (rival distractions, proximity to areas where people work etc.). And, of course, a crowd which looks good at Hove can look poor at Edgbaston and some of the other Test grounds.
Certainly from a Middlesex perspective I expect Monday's afternoon match at Radlett to feel like much more of an event than next Tuesday's evening match at Lord's. In London and other big cities there seem to be too many other things on. The idea of people coming down for a few drinks after work works to an extent for T20, but I guess the YB40 doesn't have the same pull.

Re: YB40 Thread
Good game at Leicester today - Somerset 323/3, Leicestershire 324/4 with 7 balls remaining after a 235 partnership for the first wicket.
I see Buttler got a 50* from 25 balls again, really think he should be higher up the order with the amount of not outs he gets, especially today as they were 164/2 after 20 overs which to me seems like the perfect time for him to come in and ideally bat the whole second half of the innings as opposed to only being in for the last 7.
Also see Tom Lancefield got 76 for the Unicorns today which is good to see and James Taylor continued his good form with 75 from 74.

Good afternoon from a rather cramped and slightly uneven press tent at Radlett. There is a bumper crowd in and it should be a terrific game.
