Jordan held back until too late - he needs to hit two sixes off two balls to tie the match....

Why o why didn't we send Jordan in earlier, at least he can slog.

Sussex probably should have won that one, considering their third wicket partnership had taken them to 75 - 2.

Re: YB40 Thread
Joe Gatting is just crap, he was batting for his average rather than trying to slog out and risk getting the runs on the board.
Complete joke of a defeat, to an average side.

Few shout outs so far in todays games
Ryan Ten Doeschate hitting 180. With fellow Essex team mate Hamish Rutherford hitting 110.
Alex Wakely hitting 102 for Northamptonshire against Kent.
A question about Ten Doeschate isn't he suppose to be playing for Holland? As they are in this competition?

Re: YB40 Thread
Another century for Paul Stirling in a one-day match. One of the most feared one-day players in the country yet just 1 Championship match to his name.
Nick - The Dutch team in the YB40 is made up of those not attached to counties. Therefore Ten Doeschate doesn't play. (Actually, he rarely plays for Holland at all these days - he didn't play in their ODI v SA this week).

Hi Shelsey - good, no nonsense report!
Ha. Very difficult to condense six matches you haven't watched into one article! Expect a bit more 'style' this week when I'm actually at the ground a few times!
NB: I'm hoping to catch either Chris Adams or Gareth Batty at Guildford on Friday unless on pitch events dictate that something else is the story. Would be appreciative if people could suggest some questions. I was thinking of asking him about the age-profile of the squad etc...

Re: YB40 Thread
Shelsey - Richard Spiller, a local journalist and regular critic of Adams, wrote in the current edition of the Surrey Advertiser that as last week's YB40 clash against Derbys included six Surrey players aged 35 or more, it "might easily have been renamed Derby v Darby and Joan".
Spiller has previously referred to the Surrey squad as resembling a "Fathers and Sons" gathering.
Besides the age issue, you could also ask about the inbalance of the squad - too many seamers and not enough batsmen.
Were we naïve not to have more batting cover for injuries, call ups and loss of form? Hasn't Tom Lancefield already showed this season sufficient success to have been retained as back up?
Why did it take a move away from the Oval for Chris Jordan to come good? What does that say about Surrey's coaching? Would Edwards and Dunn benefit from following in his footsteps?

Thanks. If I get him I'll try not to be too harsh but all good questions! In particular the 'fathers and sons' line might be an interesting one to throw at him. Good idea to ask about Jordan as well.

Cheers, Shelsey. I appreciate my tone of questions was rather aggressive (borne out of frustration, I'm afraid) - agree best for you to begin in a more understanding manner and build up.
I've spoken to Adams a few times (forums, AGMs and at Guildford last year) - he normally appears friendly and happy to talk although I haven't always been convinced as to the substance of his responses.

Hope so (though not too many
). However, I'm of the view that his problems are less down to lack of form than a lack of confidence to play at the highest level.

Two great bits of fielding from Middx - the one-handed catch from Dexter caught the eye but also Rossington getting Trego standing up to the stumps off the 80mph James Harris.

James Hildreth take a bow son. Managed to view the last over and that was something special superb batting. He has bumped Somerset up to a decent score. Very well batted.

Re: YB40 Thread
Kent had good win over Sussex tonight, reaching their target of 337 with nine balls to spare. Sir Chris Jordan missing from the Sussex team (they seem to be resting him often in limited overs); meanwhile RHB, unusually, had a turn at bowling for Sussex - sending down one over for 20 runs.
Detective Inspector Stevens scored 118 off 53 balls - one of the more rapid centuries in the competition.

Last day of qualification today.
We have been having some pretty major server issues of late over at Deep Extra Cover, but have a temporary site up to cover today's fixtures, including a live blog. I will be at Lord's for Middx v Leics and Fists will also be on duty, covering Warwickshire v Notts.
We also have a guide to all the permutations here - http://deepextracover.blog.com/2013/08/26/yb40-qualification-permutations/
