Good recovery - still 20 short. Missing Wilson - not sure what Ponting and Maxwell are bringing to this.

great result tonight from the lads.... I'm certainly having to eat a fairly large chunk of humble pie when it comes to Dernbach and 20 20 cricket

Wasn't able to follow last night's game but my gut reaction on hearing our score was that we were too light. Yet again in this year's competition the bowlers proved our saviours. Ironic that they've been the weak link in the four day game.

Here's my full report from the ground - http://deepextracover.com/home/runs-on-the-board-win-out-in-london-derby/
Surrey were again superb with the ball, as they were on Wednesday. Mahmood and Dernbach are proving almost unplayable at the death and on the used pitches utilised on Weds and Fri the spinners are coming right into the game.
From a Middlesex perspective it was disappointing to see the batting crumble as it did after what I thought was a pretty good bowling and fielding performance. Still, 2 from 4 isn't a disaster in this competition and we'll be favourites v Kent on Sunday.
There have been super crowds all week with last night's full house the biggest of them. However, the atmosphere was slightly odd with half the fans more interested in beer chains than the cricket.
I must also say that the staff at The Oval are not particularly helpful. The stewarding, particularly after the game, seemed unnecessarily tight for a cricket match with parents prevented from accompanying their children to the autograph signing which the players participated in. Meanwhile, the media are not looked after nearly as well as they are at Lord's - we are given no choice in who to interview (ended up with de Bruyn even though Dernbach was happily talking to Surrey TV) and then cut off after about two questions. They also don't seem to be able to get away interviews which has been no real problem with Surrey winning the matches this week but would be if the key performers were on the other team.
Next up for me is the Uxbridge Festival - T20 v Kent on Sun and Champ v Warks Mon-Thu. Two wins are really needed if the Middlesex challenge isn't going to fade.

An interview with the Brain is not to be sneezed at.....

Nothing against Zander but it doesn't make life easy when he gets thrown in front of you without any time to think about what to ask him, hasn't done anything extra-special in the game and you have a media officer standing over you giving you the hurry up.
Incidentally, he played a straight bat to 'How much influence has the change in coaching structure had on the team's performance during the T20?'

Shelsey, to be honest I don't really know anything about the Brain in terms of his personality, but I would count it as a likely plus point that that he didn't take up the opportunity to bad mouth the Adams regime. I guess there could be a temptation to do that, but I think the more professional way would be to look at the players' own responsibility to perform. The Brain was certainly one of those who had - until very recently - underperformed for a prolonged period, which for most other teams would have got him dropped.

Corporal - all good and valid points. I suspect as well that there has been an instruction from the top brass to avoid any public pronouncements about Adams. As far as I'm aware (although this is really Carrot's territory), there has been no mention of Adams' sacking in tweets from the players which tends to support this view.Corporalhumblebucket wrote:Shelsey93 wrote: Incidentally, he played a straight bat to 'How much influence has the change in coaching structure had on the team's performance during the T20?'

I was at the Guildford ground some of last week for the seconds' game (I'll post separately about the game on the general Surrey news thread). The vibes I got was that it's now a happier camp, particularly for those on the fringes.
