The Surrey squad to play the Middlesex Panthers in the Friends Life T20 at Lord’s on Thursday 25th July:

Zander De Bruyn
Gary Wilson

will this be the match when solanki replaces the brain?

178 - 7 off our 20.

Runs and impetus provided by O'Brien, Solanki and Mahmood.

Seems like a good score but we still struggled a bit for acceleration in the second half of our innings. Just 4 runs off the final over from the Iceman - if Middlesex pull this off, that will probably be decisive.

Will be interesting to see how Tremlett fares ....

2 early wickets but Stirling going like a train. We're going to need to get him out to win ...

Mahmood gets Stirling for 19. Middlesex 25 -4 and, in the words of Jonny Barran, "making a pig's ear of this!"

Impressive win! Shocked  Got a surprise when checking up how Middlesex reply was going to find match had long since finished....

Astonishing burst of consistency from Surrey bowlers, in that all six of them conceded runs at less than Middlesex's original required run rate.  Good to see Ansari getting well stuck in with both bat and ball.

Excellent contribution from O'Brien - increases the mystery why he was so low down the order the other night.

Exactly!

Must do our run rate some good as well which just might come into the mix.

All the bowlers amongst the wickets - good performance as a group. Started off well by Tremlett who bowled 3 overs on the reel - that's probably the way he has to operate in t20, don't see him currently having the fitness and flexibility to bowl 4 single overs here and there throughout an innings.

And most uniquely of all, Jason Roy apparently dropped a sitter!

At the moment Surrey have best run rate in South Div - and Middlesex's rate seriously damaged by the result tonight.  Fair prospect of qualifying, though I am sure we will need some more points.  Also would be helpful if Hants beat Essex.

Risk of le Roi's crown slipping.king

Middlesex really mucked that one up... but kudos to Surrey on a strong all-round performance.

I would be concerned about someone bowling 3 overs up front in the PP too often though - unless you take early wickets, the 3rd over of a spell in T20 usually has the batsmen settled and goes for runs in my experience.

Mike - I think it does suit some bowlers though. Particularly the experienced and aged who might be carrying some injury or just been worn down over the years. Dimi Masacarenhas certainly comes to mind. Believe he regularly bowls his full allotment of 4 overs straight off from the start and to generally good effect.

I'm sure I'll again seem old fashioned here but I feel the mixing up of the bowlers in t20 cricket can be overdone and sometimes be detrimental to the bowling side. Sure, you need to keep the batsmen thinking but bowlers also need to establish rhythm and can be more effective once they have ''got set''.
