One possible way it was going was

Alexander goes back to his corner at the end of the round, sits down and tells Cunningham to "stop it" (he had hand injuries). Cunningham turns round to tell the ref "its over with"

sees Barker  (Purdy's corner ) stopping it.

Cunningham tells Alexander to "hold on wait wait"

or it could be that Alexander told Cunningham they're going to stop it in a short way, and Cunningham was telling him to wait till its confirmed?

Could be Colonel Mustard with the candlestick in the Conservatory....

Looks like he was about to call it a day but it makes no sense, if his hands were hurting that bad he should have stopped throwing as much, right before he walks to the corner he throws a combination. Haven't seen the whole fight since it happened but if I remember rightly he just kept bouncing shots off Purdys head until the corner stopped it, he could have thrown half the amount and still won at a canter.

if i remember correctly - he broke one of his hands.

from the look of his trainer, it looks like they thought purdy was stopping it. he waits to ee the confirmation, then shakes alexander's hand.

there's no look of relief there at all, so i think alexander says something along the lines of 'they're stopping it'

From the way their expression didn't change when Purdy's corner pulled him out I think Alexander was trying to get them to stop it in his favour. After Alexander says "Stop it" Cunningham says "it's over with" quite casually, like a guy who knows he's won. When Purdy gets pulled out he says the same thing again.

Think after another one sided round Alexander was bored but not likely to actually get a knockout, while Cunningham was confident they'd seen enough.

Alexander looking across the ring from his stool says "their stopping it", cunnigham turns to look, Alexander has stood up at this point, cunnigham says "wait, wait wait" then sees barker has pulled the plug, and congrats Alexander.
