I love the old days..They were great...They weren't great when I was a kid..But they are now..Because we forget the Bad S**t...

We also forget that these guys in the old days fought to eat in hard times...To cloth and bring up their families...

I cannot believe in an age of multiple titles and manipulation of the rankings that these old fighters In a money orientated World and Sport wouldn't chase the easy buck..

Times have changed and not for the better...But and a big but Is that any top fighter would take advantage of the situation..

I agree that it makes sense for the fighter to take the big payday, but as fans what do we care whether they earn 20p or 20 mill?

We aren't benefiting from what they earn so I for one can see why people rip certain fighters for avoiding the big tests. After all, we (me personally) want to see them fight the best fighters and follow their careers. I don't want to follow their financial situation.

SO yes, agree with what you say it is understandable but its still annoying.

This is a great article,

But I must say that some of the olden fighters were proud fighters and champions and might surprise you. 

Yes most fighters would chase the easy buck but Tommy Burns did not have to fight the menacing ''big smoke'' in Jack Johnson. He could have declined and at the time it would not have been seen as a shock decision.

Sugar Ray Robinson fought for 6 whole years without getting a title shot and therefore big money but he kept fighting and remained unbeaten assembling a remarkable WW record. He could have taken money for a dive as he was pressured to do so by the mob.

Carman Basilio did the same and achieved greatness the hard way.

My point is that these fighters fought for honor and prestige maybe not before money but on a par.
