US Open Day 10
First topic message reminder :
Djokovic vs Murray the highlight match, I indeed thought of opening a separate thread for this match but then given the fans interest of late all as one thread would do.
Before starting the line up, I have a question thou, the crowd turnout is too little for today's match between Federer and Batista, Federer generally enjoys massive support and is a big crowd puller , he playing a 4th round night match after the long weekend day yet half the stadium was void. I also noted this behavior for several other matches, is that coz no Rafa in this tournament?
Jokes apart, this should be a big concern for USO authorities, have the hiked the prices so much? to what ever I saw the tickets were still cheaper than Toronto masters for the same round.
The trend is more or less similar in our forums too, we have had so many exciting matches yet the fans turnout and arguments has been way too little.
Back to Matches now.
1]Azarenka vs Makarova
[Azarenka's golden run might come to an end tomorrow, Makarova in awesome form and the way she dismissed Genie was superb]
2]Stan vs Kei
[Stan should start favourite given the late night long match of Kei with Raonic, but neither did Stan had it easy vs Robredo]
3]Serena vs Panetta
[One thing for sure it won't be a cake walk, Penetta could trouble Serena if the champ don't bring her A-game]
4]Nole vs Murray
[The Highlight Match, Nole starts the heavy fav but I have a feeling Murray will trump this]
We also have some good doubles action.

Very interesting now with Kei serving first. Stan will be knackered either way.

A few posts today said Kei has physcial problems, tired from 5 set Raonic, I've said he will fold too, but by all means Kei is holding superbly.

What a match...seriously, excellent quality throughout. A real shame someone had to lose, poor Stan I called this before the Raonic match, but like Jahu reversed the prediction after that match went the distance. Should've stuck with the convictions!
Been trumpeting Kei for years so it's brilliant to see him win a massive match like this at last - what a result! Back to back 5-set wins against the world #4 and #5, that's not easy by any stretch of the imagination.

Re: US Open Day 10
People kept underestimating Kei, nobody beats Fed 2 times without talent and out of which one is Hard court and another one is clay shows this player can beat the best on any surface on his day.
While Stan is a superb player he can go down to a lot of players in spite of playing his A-Game let alone B-Game, he is not a Djoko/Nadal/Fed to play a B-game against top 20 playing their A-game and still end up winning.
Don't take me wrong I am not Anti- Wawrinka, its just he is been over estimated of late, the other day against Robredo even before match started people claimed the match in his racquet when he holding 2-6 h2h vs him and similar mistake today.
Wawrinka hasn't proved enough to convince a match is his racquet atleast not against big players, yes he can win a lot of big players but so do most top 20 players against him.

Don't be surprised if he pulls out of next round citing an injury if Djoko makes next round , thats how he infuriated many including me when he didn't show up against Nole after trumpeting Fed out in the previous round.
On the other hand gotta say he is very impressive, finally realizing his talent to maximum and he is making a habit of heart breaking Swiss players of late.

Wawrinka was completely off character. Nishikori played an excellent match. Looking forward to the midnight marathon.

I don't know that exactly LF, but what ever I saw in 4th and 5th in my view he played the best he can and yet Kei won it, but I had no chance to watch the first 3 set may be he was completely off color there, but otherwise lets give credit to Kei, its certainly not easy to play 2 x 5 set match specially when the recovery time is less than 48 hours, in my view Kei had a tougher draw and physically challanged to limits yet he won.
I am not even a fan of Kei, but I love people who show dedication and fighting spirit I see that as the respect for the game, thats one of the reason I liked David Ferrer, Tommy Robredo, the King of Clay etc,., thats one of the reason I dislike Raonic, no improvements in the game for last 4-5 years.

Please explain.
Defensive counter-pouncher.
Movement = Murray, arguably moves better on clay
Forehand - Not as good as Murray
Backhand - Not as good as Murray
Return of serve - Not as good as Murray
Very similar players but Murray does pretty much everything a bit better. It's why Murray leads the H2H 3-0.

I will forgive Andy for that goof up of not holding the serve he clearly was nervous but otherwise I like his new attacking style, he is winning points on his own with winners that too given Djoko as the opponent.

Oh poor Andy. This isn't a 6-1 set but it's heading that way because he just can't serve properly. Djokovic is really playing a blinder though. His returns have been excellent and his groundstrokes aren't too shabby either.

Re: US Open Day 10
The current version of Murray plays better when he is under pressure and can goof up when he is on lead, every time he went a break up against Tsonga he came back strong and everytime he won a set he conceded a break .
I did fear when he won the break at the 1st game and rightly he panicked, and however going down 4-1 helped him focus and get back into the set.

A Djoko- Murray QF matching happening on night session and still the stadium is not full, USO authorities have to be seriously worried about it.

What a spinning serve to hold, Murray's game so far is pretty impressive, I guess we need to give a lot of credit to Amelie for making Murray slow turn into an aggressive player.

Re: US Open Day 10
He was fairly aggressive under Lendl but turned into a nothing player when he left. However, whether that was due to Lendl leaving or the surgery I dunno.

Would you believe Murray's forehand has consistently hit winner today against Djoko, some of his shots Djoko cannot reach even when he stood next to where the ball landed.

Amelie has got a lot of stick for Murray's losses, its clearly time to credit her if Murray wins it, I have never seen Murray forehand like that even once, and today he is hitting it consistently.

I saw it once. I think he hit a 124mph forehand against Mardy Fish many years ago but yeah, Amelie's gameplan is beginning to show.

Ouch, that's pretty much how not to play a tiebreak. The set didn't deserve that.

Shiit tiebreaker from Murray, Djoko takes 1st set easy in the tie breaker, all effort went waste, some day Murray will stop sleeping in the mid game specially in the tie breakers.

70+ minutes for one set, so five sets is 350+ minutes, which will be 6 hours (like AO).
First set Djokovic.
PS: TSJ, you can get some shut-eye and set an alarm for 2 hours from now.

Gnite TSJ, I lost interest in the match, its easy to lose 6-1 than losing the 1st one on a tie break that too given he played very good.
I guess this one going to be 6-7 7-6 6-7 7-6 7-6 for Murray.
