Why I've changed my mind . . . Empty Why I've changed my mind . . .

On Pac v Mayweather.

I haven't wanted this fight for some years on the basis they are both well beyond prime, especially Pac. However, the PPV that was just put on this weekend was the worst I have ever seen, and it is PPV events like these that are turning US audiences away. There is a reason Mayweather's PPV numbers are no longer being shown, and why Pac fights in China. The US needs Pac v May, not for us fight fans, but for the general intrigue of the sport.

Get it done in May, put on a stellar undercard for a change, win back some US fans. Boxing is doing well in the UK and in places like Germany, but the lack of efficient matchmaking is hurting it in the USA.
Make this fight happen. Otherwise Floyd will have two more fights that turn fans away.

I didnt even bother to watch the last Mayweather card. Its a shame that so much resources are pumped into trying to keep the Mayweather gravy train afloat. He has been underwhelming for so long.

I have no idea why America is so keen to keep pumping their fans with Mayweather. Unbelievable price for a May PPV. And they are nothing short of terrible.

It's supply and demand....................However you detest Mayweather he's just like the top guys in every sport......People want to pay to watch the best..

O'sullivan's snooker games against no marks always sell out......Where as two evenly matched guys play in front of fresh air......Phil Taylor is the same.......Tiger woods always gets the biggest galleries.............Even If a guy like Bubba is more exciting..

People are seeing something they know they'll probably never see again and are drinking it in...

Yes he should fight better opponents but the fact is people admire an artist at work..

Always have..

They will see it again. They are seeing it again. His name is Rigondeaux. Why aren't all these purist fans watching him? Why aren't networks pumping Rigo? Rigo is easily as skilled as Floyd, IMO.

I think people buy into the Mayweather hype machine, the lifestyle, etc. I think May has a sublime talent. But sadly, his PPV cards are terrible in terms of an undercard, and he doesn't entertain very much in the ring. I don't blame him for making his night as easy as possible, but fans are turning away. Hence, with two fights left, I'd rather see a shot Pac v May and a stacked undercard than an easy, uneventful win with a terrible undercard. For the money peoplle pay in the USA, Mayweather's cards are terrible.

Mayweather has built a brand of years but his fights are usually underwhelming, overpriced affairs. Heavy marketing, careful opponent selection and an era thats been lacking in many real alternatives has helped. Im bored of Mayweather to be honest. Hes doesnt entertain, he doesnt face the best regularly and his lots of money image was boring 5 years ago. I would much rather see boxing networks spread their exposure and resources rather than plough it into Mayweather. I think the sport would be better off. A lot of conservatism in boxing contributing to its unhealthy state.

Am I right saying less and less people are paying to see him at the moment?

The problem with this analogy is that in these sports you cannot choose you opponent. That's why boxers, whether fairly or unfairly, are criticized for choosing opponents who are deemed 'easy' or not up to standard. I think the point being made by MO in this is that boxing needs a mega fight and/or card to really ignite interest in the US. But you're bang on, sport a lot of the time is sold on its characters opposed to the quality of the competitors.

I’ve had this fight as my number one matchup for years. Although I’ve read and understand when people saying they’ve "lost interest" or have "become bored" of hearing about it I can’t deny that it has always been ( and still is ) THE fight to make for me.

OK, they’ve both slipped a bit but the build-up to this would be exciting and huge! I would watch it with a genuine sense that not only could either win (Floyd would be favourite but Pac would/should be very dangerous) but we’d finally get confirmation regarding who’s the best of this era.

I agree about Rigondeaux, it is sad such a gifted boxer is flowing under the radar. He is miles ahead of his comepetition for me.
