Re: French Open 2015 - Day 5 and 6
Julie Gorgeous against C-Woz. Doesn't matter about the quality, there are two good reasons for watching that one...
More seriously, Almagro v Rafa will be an interesting benchmark for Rafa's form. Can't see Almagro having the mentality to push through for a win, but a top form Rafa usually thrashes him on clay so it will be interesting to see the scoreline.
Otherwise, I don't see any upsets today, but then again you wouldn't have seen Dimi or Halep as possible losers yesterday.
If the courts are playing as slow as some are saying, that may actually suit Murray, with his ability to slice and liking of the drop shot.

Not possible. Granollers is the ultimate Spanish Gasquet.

Jeez listening to John Inverdale bitching about players playing in the same coloured kit a few times this morning on ITV4.
Obviously, he has never been to Wimbledon and he is frustrated as he knows sod all about tennis and needs them to be colour-coded to be able to identify the players. I can just picture the set-up. He gets a message in his ear-piece that Cilic is in the yellow and it cuts to the match and both are in yellow totally confusing Inverdale.

Granollers has no such reputation. As a limited player he plays to his limits and gets beaten by better players. El Mugro and Gasket intersperse brilliant shotmaking with mental midgetry and crumble at the sight of a key moment against a big player.CaledonianCraig wrote:The likeness was him collapsing like a pack of cards - grinder or not.

Well yesterday I watched him collapse like a house of cards. Breaks up in two of the three sets, Federer far from his best by your own estimation and he still couldn't even pocket one set. Perhaps we can call him El Collapso?

I'm wondering why the bookies were apparently against Tomic for this one? I'm sure the forum consensus was that he would probably come through.
Andujar completes the comeback against Kohli, winning all four games today and saving a BP at 4-4 - well played!
Also, Gasquet = Granollers? What have you been smoking? I know you enjoy your daily dig at Fed, but that is a stretch and a half Craig! Personally I'd target his shorts if I were you, they look like a radioactive watermelon.

In mental department - yes. That was the talk. Not talking tennis talent here. It stemmed from BB talking down the challenge of Almagro but lets be honest Almagro is a tougher nut to crack than Granollers. The head-to-head stats, tournament win stats and highest ranking achieved stat all say Almagro is better than Granollers.

But what is your underlying point though? I take it you flung in that comment because he was playing Nadal today? Well that much is obvious. No one is saying Almagro is an all-time great or close to it and Nadal should have few problems in winning but it is a tougher challenge than playing Granollers who Federer beat yesterday. In short trying to downplay any win for Nadal today by belittling his opponent is a bit rich considering Federer's lesser opponent yesterday.

It's a long established fact that there are a few players who are wastes of talent, and we talk about it. Same for Gasquet, Monfils, and others.
This sort of silly comment just brings the place down and turns every discussion into a childish war.

What a set of hair on Almagro, really shows it off without a headband. Now trying to remember did Nadal used to have hair so thick like that?
Thus far proceeding well along for Nadal just as expected. Don't think magro will even take a set.

I concur. It seemed needless and petty to me. But hey, Overlord Falzy has spoken so this one is now brushed under the mat.

Too much marking - I'm already eyeing up the wine!
Rafa looking good for the win here, but I'm not convinced he's doing enough offensively. He should take advantage and open his shoulders a bit more, start looking for the angles rather than letting Almagro miss. Should he be looking ahead to the Novak match at this point and practicing his tactics? What do you all think?

Are you not doing the same, CC? The best I have seen Almagro play v Nadal is at RG 2010 despite the win in Barcelona 2014.
Almagro is currently ranked #154 while Granollers is ranked #57 as of last week. Who do you think has the form for last 52 weeks based on performance?
Look at Cilic, he is slam champion, as is Wawrinka, and both were beaten by lesser opponents at Geneva.

Coric can be handful, but Robredo should be able to call up his experience on Clay and win, may be a four setter.

Re: French Open 2015 - Day 5 and 6
Agree with Silver above - Nadal may be up a set, two breaks BUT NOT impressed - Nadal just lost serve to LOVE - up two breaks for cryin' out loud - NO pressure here whatsoever.
His balls are dropping short (funny comments from the "wise guys?" LOL!), but too many times when he's had Almagro out of court, he puts the ball into the open court but 5 feet from the lines, which will not be good enough moving forwards. Serve is lacking consistency, and it's just not a match to this point that suggests he is ironing out some wrinkles. Hopefully once - IF!! - he gets two sets up, he'll relax a bit and swing "from the hip," and get some things sorted out during the 3rd (maybe not last!!) set.
Fine maybe if you can break your opponent regularly, but won't "do" when he's playing others that don't offer up their service games so easily.

Yes Im forced to agree .. winning but second rate stuff from Rafa
He has to find a spark from somewhere.
Ive seen Almagro play better so just as well he isnt

None of us have any opponents in tennis, we're just observers.temporary21 wrote:Belittling opponents, isnt good practice, period
That said, being able to criticise a players weakness is surely perfectly correct on here isn't it? El Mugro is a mental midget, well known for it.

Hes relatively weak in the mental stakes compared to the best. Calling him a mental midget is rather harsh though.

That's been the terminology for a weak mental player since 606. I didn't just cook it up.temporary21 wrote:Hes relatively weak in the mental stakes compared to the best. Calling him a mental midget is rather harsh though.
