Not a scooby, just hope it's a cracking night for you (for any forces/ex forces, tickets for troops have got a couple of tickets left for this)
Just remember all you smokers, you can't leave the MEN once your in there and pints are a fiver (although Wetherspoons in the printworks is cheaper if your not going in straight away :-)

Re: Smith vs Williams: Who Wins?
I haven't seen a lot of Williams, but he has a nice aggressive style and good ability.
I don't know who I pick. In a close fight like this, perhaps experience counts. Smith has good timing and is a very good boxer. Can't fault him too hard for Canelo, who is a top guy at 160, never mind 154/55.

Canelo is a top guy at 160, even though he's never fought at the 160 limit (or fought a natural 160 pounder)?

I just think Smith is too good
But I'll be rooting for Williams

Re: Smith vs Williams: Who Wins?
I've picked Williams by stoppage , isn't much between these two guys but I think Williams has more in his arsenal. Smith adopts the same Joe Gallagher style - feet are set and slow with high guard, If Williams can use his head and not get carried away he could score decent damage and stop him late on.
Enjoy mate - should be a good bill - I like nights at the MEN, Nynex whatever you call it nowadays.
Cheers

Of course he is. Imo he beats everyone in the division. In time he will be number one in the division. Anyway the thread is about this fight, not about Canelo, so we will leave that discussion for another day.

Thought Canelo got lucky against Cotto in my opinion very little in the fight and Lara definitely beat him.

You don't like Canelo...
Me I thought they were both close fights and Canelo nicked both..........But as I'm not arsed about Canelo I can be objective.

I don't think the Cotto fight was particularly close, I thought Alvarez won it quite comfortably whereas the Lara fight was a case of what you like.

Re: Smith vs Williams: Who Wins?
I can't remember how I had the Cotto fight but it was a sterling effort from Cotto. I thought he proved he was the better all-round fighter of the two - he just wasn't the better 155 pounder. Canelo was too big.
Anyway, Smith vs Williams: potential domestic FOY?

I'm pretty sure that Roman Gonzalez is a better P4P boxer than Leo Santa Cruz but that wouldn't mean a thing in an actual fight, we should all applaud moral victories.

I think Gallagher fighters spend too much time being taught to block rather than avoid.............Quigg and Crolla being two prime examples..
However we don't really know how much potential they had before he starting working with him...So there is a tendency to be a little harsh on Joe...
But I agree with your post about the style..

Great Arena (fancy it may be a bit quieter than usual the rate they're giving tickets out - I won mine).
Grand National, sunshine. Should be a great day.

Comp. on Twitter (possibly through BoxNation). To be honest, I don't remember entering. Shame I missed top prize: 2 x £500 tickets, free bar, canapes, waitress service, the lot.
Still, can't grumble. I'll be "warm" by the time I get off the train!

Smith hasn't made weight. Shockingly poor preparation.

Managed to get £10 on a Williams stoppage win at 3/1 after the 3rd which is looking decent right now.

That's very poor from Lockett; Nick Blackwell has finished him as an effective corner man.

Wow. Firstly....Stopped on a cut from a head clash....It happens.....But secondly....1 point up?! What?! No chance. Absolute no chance. He was at least 3-4 up!! Smith just walked forward with no head movement.

Williams coming across far better than Smith in the post fight interview; still think that's very poor by Lockett and doesn't happen before Blackwell.

Ah well to be fair no one gave the little Taffy a chance against the mighty Englishman. I thought Lockett could have kept him in for the remaining rounds. The Welshman was wining. Rematch I hope

Re: Smith vs Williams: Who Wins?
Yeh agree Hammer to an extent. He will always feel that pressure going forward. Don't think he should actually work the corner going forward like you say.
A rematch is needed here. Williams will win handily.
That it was pretty bad though.

On another note, and I'm trying very hard not to come across as sexist, but this Nicola Adams fight is the first woman's boxing match I've watch. It's absolutely ridiculous. It just looks out of place and odd. Sorry. Women shouldn't be in the ring.

If Terry O'Connor thought it was a punch then I hope the boxing board review it and call it a no contest

He's a usual southpaw that looks worse than he is, sums it up when the undercard fight was more interesting than the world title fight.
