SURREY VS KENT SPITFIRES NATWEST T20 BLAST
Surrey have named a 16 man squad for tonight’s NatWest T20 Blast decider against Kent at the St. Lawrence Ground in Canterbury.
Tom Curran, who missed last night’s victory over Gloucestershire with a back problem, retains his place in the squad, which is augmented by the young trio of Freddie van den Bergh, Ryan Patel and Will Jacks, who has just returned from England U19 duty.
yeah like any of them are going to play
Full Surrey Squad
Full Surrey Squad
Gareth Batty (captain)
Scott Borthwick
Rory Burns
Rikki Clarke
Sam Curran
Tom Curran
Jade Dernbach
Aaron Finch
Ben Foakes
Moises Henriques
Will Jacks
Stuart Meaker
Ryan Patel
Ollie Pope
Freddie van den Bergh
Jason Roy
I cant see TC not playing in this one
so probably the England trio plus Meaker and Foakes
Over to you chaps

Re: SURREY VS KENT SPITFIRES NATWEST T20 BLAST
Cheers, JimBob.
Assume the weather will be ok for this one - Corporal? Had heavy rain and hail in my neck of the woods this pm.
Much as I would like the Burger Van to get a game, I'm pretty sure he's just there to provide the catering. Like you, JimBob, I can't see the other young lads playing either - probably just there for the experience and as emergency back up.
Surrey will be keen for TC to play but I wonder if the wording of the announcement - he ''retains his place in the squad'' - is significant. That's hardly confirmation of his fitness! Guess a decision will be taken shortly before kick off. Meaker to miss out if Tom can play. Foakes again on the bench.
As Stewie might say, we're going to need to bring our ''A game'' to Canterbury. See that Denly and Bell-Drummond put on 200 against Essex last night. Plus we're up against Darren Stevens who normally reserves his best for us!

Hi Guildford - these scattered heavy showers are due to fade away, so every chance there will be a full game. Agree on the likely selection, with possible exception of Foakes in for Burns.

Surrey win toss and bat.
Unsurprisingly, Kent unchanged from last night's win at Essex.
Await news of Surrey's eleven.

Cheers, JimBob. Good call by the Corporal about Foakes coming in, albeit for Borthwick rather than Burns.

59/2 off 6. Roy still there with 41 off 23. Need him to keep going for at least another 6 overs.

Roy gone now. 112/4 off 12. Cracking knock but do we have sufficient to come?

Oops. Probably 20-30 short at 153-9 unless someone produces a stunning spell or 2 à la Sam last night.

From 98/2 off 10, we end up 154/9. Poor, very poor.
It's not over until Son of Simon buys a round but I can't see Kent blowing this!

He did: then spilt half of it in the ground, dammit. Surrey subsiding meekly but inexorably while the (?inbred) crowd in the deep Provinces is something to behold. Frustrating that none of us will live long enough to see what they evolve into (Jent friends: only

99/4 off 13.4. An opening? Possibly. Probably the best position we've been in since Roy was going strong anyway.
Don't worry about the spillage, Simon and Son! They're still trying to dry out the carpet in the Oval Long Room from when the Corporal suffered similarly!

Kent need 41 off 4 overs. A high(ish) rate but they still have 6 wickets left ....

Dreadful over from Dernbach
Kent need 26 off 3 now - will take a miraculous bowling performance from here

Wow and wow again!! With 3 wickets in the last over, Clarke shoes us into a quarter final spot!
Would be interested in Simon's views as to whether we won or if Kent simply blew it, thanks.

Yeeeees! How the fell did Kent mess that up?? But in the words of the great Barry Davies ' who cares?!'
Absolutely brilliant bowling performance. Upwards and onwards - with a home QF to come. Feeling seriously outnumbered, but happy. Over and out from Canterbury.

Guildford: I seriously think Kent blew it. On the other hand, Jason showed yet again that he is a class apart. I still can't quite get my head round how on earth we won but I'll take it!

Re: SURREY VS KENT SPITFIRES NATWEST T20 BLAST
Thanks, Simon.
I'm sure the Corporal will soon be opening up the officers' mess for a few drinks. He just needs to find the key - so long since it's been used!
Not the time for detailed analysis but our middle order desperately need to up their totals and strike rates.

Re: SURREY VS KENT SPITFIRES NATWEST T20 BLAST
I certainly didn't see that result coming - we looked down and out. Odd how both teams' batting fell away quite so badly in the second half their innings. But credit to several of Surrey's bowlers for a stellar recovery. Difficult to know what batsmen to pick.
Anyway - as Guildford says, it's been a while!

All kicking off on the Supporters' Club 'Wallpaper' site that Surrey members with admission to t20 games are to be charged £15 for the quarter final. That's despite the pre-season blurb referring to access to all home t20 games and it apparently being contrary to what was done in previous seasons.

That sounds naughty Guildford, what a pity that our much loved but already rich club appears to be squeezing the pips. As a non-member myself, I intend to pay full whack to come next Friday, along with my mate Stuart who was our lucky charm two nights ago, and beer throwing Son of Simon

...who was last night's lucky mascot.
Re my comments last night on the crowd, I was struck how Le Roy's 50 was 'greeted' by almost total silence, and at his dismissal only Kent members in the pavilion applauded him back in. Rude anti-Surrey chants began early in their innings. Never one to duck a challenge, I effected increasingly boisterous standing celebrations as we took wickets, choosing to decline shouted advice both to 'sit down!' and to '**** off!!'. I hope T20 isn't headed the way of soccerball: see Peter Trego's comments on this earlier this week.

Fair comment wisdom but the strange thing is KP has turned it on for us on occasions and, apparently, been a positive wise influence behind the scenes for our promising youngsters. Just in case, I bet any opponent would rather not see his name on our team sheet st no 3 or4.
