The way Dillian Whyte beat Rivas with that double jab is how Dillian Whyte is best suited in beating Andy Ruiz Jr. Whyte should be trying to get a fight against Ruiz if Ruiz knocks out Joshua in November or December, or if Joshua declines the immediate rematch. That was probably Whytes best performance in a fight to date. I think Whyte would likely get knocked out by Deontay Wilder and would probably get outpointed by Tyson Fury - but I think boxing like he did against Rivas - he would likely beat Ruiz on points.

Manny Pacquiao beat Keith Thurman by SD to unify the WBA titles. Pacquiao was far too good for the American slugger.

Rivas was a fairly average fighter and isn’t anyway near the class or skill of Ruiz Jr. Rivas hand speed was so slow it suited Whyte.

Whyte nearly got KO’d by Rivas whom seemed clueless as to what to do most of the time.

Whyte isn’t good enough to beat Fury, Wilder or Ruiz Jr. His only realistic hopes are on facing Joshua again

Bit in bold - I think that is debatable but I can't push my point - because Dillian Whyte is vulnerable and Ruiz Jr is fast.  But Whyte beat Parker and Parker beat Ruiz Jr (yes I know there are arguments against that simplistic statement - you don't need to mention them here).   I could add Whyte beat Rivas and Rivas beat Ruiz Jr (in the amateurs), but maybe that is too much of a stretch.

A better way of looking at it is that the way to beat Ruiz Jr is to use ones reach advantage with a strong jab and take it on points.   Whyte did this against Rivas - "if" he was able to do that against Ruiz Jr without getting knocked out first - than that is how he could win.  But maybe Whyte is not the person to be able to do it because of the chance of him getting knocked out at some stage by Ruiz.

With regard Pacquiao vs Thurman I thought before the fight Thurman would win - but after the fight I thought Pacquiao had won fairly decisively with the first round knockdown and the tenth round body punch being the key moments swinging the fight decisively in Pacquiao's favour - so I was surprised by the split decision.

Broner got  Keith  a lot on his mind lately that fights there if he wants it what’s the problem at least Keith didn’t run like a sissy the fight was close though I missed the last four rounds Spence is the fight for Manny now surely but Errol and Porter is a great fight too

I thought that Thurman showed total class with his post-fight comments. A bit surprised that he lost, but I don't think he' been the same since his injury lay-off. Props to Manny though.

|Spence has just announced a unification fight with Porter so that avenue is closed for now.

And nothing more prestigious for the fighter

But no, Bob needs opponents for Crawford and he can keep it in-house so fck the fans

Ex-boxing champion Carlos Baldomir jailed over sexual abuse
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-latin-america-49191065?intlink_from_url=&link_location=live-reporting-story

A court in Argentina has sentenced former welterweight world boxing champion Carlos Baldomir to 18 years in prison.
Baldomir, 48, was found guilty of the repeated sexual abuse of a child.

The court heard that the abuse began when the girl was seven years old and lasted for two years.

Baldomir was World Boxing Council champion for 10 months in 2006 after he beat the unified welterweight champion Zab Judah in New York.

He defended his title against Arturo Gatti before losing it to Floyd Mayweather in November 2006. The boxer retired in 2014 and became a trainer.

Baldomir had already spent almost three years in pre-trial detention in the province of Santa Fe after his arrest in November 2016.

He denied the charges and his lawyer described the sentence as "very high and excessive". When he arrived in court last week at the start of his trial, he was defiant, raising his fists and showing the middle finger to journalists.

Prosecutors had asked for a sentence of 20 years in prison.

Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez has been stripped of the IBF middleweight title after failing to agree terms with mandatory challenger Sergiy Derevyachenko.

Derevyachenko could now face IBF #2 ranked Gennady Golovkin for the vacant belt.

Rather oddly Alvarez is now looking to face WBO champion Boo Boo Andrade in a WBA/WBO unification.

I can see Povetkin smacking Hughie out if he's got anything left. However I am not sure he has. He was target practice for Joshua after 2 or 3 rounds. Hughie though was utter garbage against Samuel Peter. Can't see him troubling any of the top contenders at all.

As for Oscar and Canelo, well played IBF. You want to keep the belt? Defend against the mandatory (unless you're Deontay Wilder of course).

What a fight this is, soon as Stevenson loses real fights start getting made in the division he was an awful champion; can Gvozdyk box a masterclass or will Beterbiev win by brutal knockout? Unmissable:

No this guy going after the best fighting Beterbiev his second fight after winning the WBC you can’t knock it

Stevenson was a lousy champion who deprived a great champion in Kovalev from becoming the undisputed number one

His opponents were handpicked all the way Gvozdyk was his first real defence it was a con of a reign, a sham reign

There were some ok defences in Cloud, Bellew, Bika and Williams but there was way too much garbage too Gvozdyk was the first 50/50 and true defence of his reign if you’re going by rankings

It was time to fight Kovalev after Cloud that’s when he started ducking him with the full support of Haymon and the WBC

Fonfara and Shukotsky were decent fights too, it's hardly his fault that there was only one 50/50 out there, Gvozdyk only beat him because he got old, go back five years and that becomes a routine defence like the rest of them.

Fighting Beterbiev is seen as a good fight when it's uninspiring which shows that people alter there attitude depending on who the boxers are.

I forgot Jack that was a reasonable defence too which of course he clearly lost

They were going to rob Gvozdyk too if he hadn’t got the stoppage

Gvozdyk only beat Stevenson because he got old? Do me a favour

You’re one of these fans who can’t see when they’re being conned. You’re rating Stevenson much too highly. Everyone else can see he picked opponents he was expected to beat. Gvozdyk always beats him no matter when they fight he’s simply too good for a mediocre champion

Stevenson entire reign based around ducking Kovalev

Fonfara? Please..

I'm guessing you've not bothered to watch the fight then, Stevenson outsped the lumbering Gvozdyk for the most part until he got caught in the 11th, without that he wins and deservedly so, your hyperbole is amusing i'll give you that.

A notch above?

He's made one defence of his title against an absolute nobody, Stevenson was a world class operator for a long time, he might not have fought Kovalev but he had undoubted talent and he was the best part of 41 when he lost a fight he was comfortably winning, doesn't add up to being a notch above.

If a 41 year old Stevenson makes him look like a plodder then a 36 year old Stevenson knocks him out, it's almost as if you genuinely haven't seen the fight and don't realise who was winning quite comfortably.

Krusher by KO. Yarde seems to be hoping that Kovalev has deteriorated massively since his last fight. Even if Kovalev is slightly diminished, he’s a few levels above Yarde. The key aspect for Yarde is how will he react when he gets hit by Kovalev. Yarde hasn’t fought anyone of note. This bout has the feeling of Kovalev/Cleverly about it.
