Eh. At this point its fairly clear his ideals fall short against the absolute top teams, at that point bring in firepower to try and bridge the gap. Its pretty near impossible to consistently punch upwards

Cech back to Chelsea apparently, if Courtois does move to Real. Chelski also interested in Schmeichel as well.

No issue with him spending the money, just no need to be a hypocrite at the time he didn't have the money

Doesn't seem a lot given the interest in him in January and the current going rate for players

Liverpool have upped there bid for Allison to £66.8 million.
If Chelsea sign Rugani, Man Utd are expected to go for Cahill.
Zidane to Juventus as an advisor.
Dortmund in for Zaha, with Schurrle and cash offer.

Where is the bar set now?
Anything less than a serious PL challenge must be a disappointment given the most expensive goalkeeper and defender of all time in the squad and the 100m spent on midfielders

Yes, I would think that Klopp and Liverpool reaĺlu would need to win something next season, and challenge properly for the premiership given the size of the outlay over the last 18 months.

Am I right in thinking that the transfer window shuts in about 2 weeks?
As for Liverpool, 2 top 4 finishes, 1 carling cup final, 1 Europa League final, 1 champions league final (alright they lost the finals). It's not a bad return from his 3 years. If he breaks the top 2 this year he's done well.

The CL is the standout one, the rest is pretty much par.
Think top 2 might be mandatory this year tho.

To be honest the number of points off the top at the end of the season is more important to me than specifically finishing second or third. I would hope to see Liverpool finishing much closer to the summit next season, doubly so if the Allison deal is closed.

If that is true it would speak volumes about how people rate both Karius and Mignolet.

Didn’t Klopp say he’d never spend big on one player when Mourinho signed Pogba? Blowing £75m on van Dijk, £40m on Fabinho, £67m on Alisson and £55m on Keita. Klopp continues to show he’s no more than a fool

The best way to rate a team's transfer window is to measure the level of jealousy which normally manifests itself in the form of criticism / ridicule and or personal attacks.
Judging by the many comments on different forms of social media, Liverpool would seem to have done quite well this transfer window.

On paper they've done very very well. Cannot deny that at all, brought in several players that should improve the squad and give them a chance at pushing City.
Still means Klopp is a hypocrite though.

True, I tend to think Klopp's comments at the time of the Pogba signing are an example of his jealousy at that time given that then, unlike now, he didn't have the possibility to spend such a big amount on a single player. For me the significant change has been in the strategy of the Liverpool owners who have realised that to become a title contender requires big investment in a few top players rather than the previous strategy of a big investment in many average players.

Klopp is a choker no chance he can fluke a league title in England. Signing second rate players like VvD and Keita doesn’t win you anything

Amazes me that all the rivals have stood by and let them to a degree. Seems that most of the clubs don't realize that the window shuts in less than 3 weeks.

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
Once City, United & Chelsea open the cheque book, Liverpool’s total spend will fade into the background.
——————--Allison————————-
TAA—-Lovren——Van Dijk—-Robertson
—-Fabinho—Henderson—Keita——-
Mane————-Salah———-Firmino
It’s alright. Can & Oxlade will be big misses. You can swap in Milner, Lallana & Shaqiri, but it’s not a squad you feel that has been transformed. Salah is a known threat this season, so doubtful he recreates last seasons tally.

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
Other than Alisson for Chelsea, I don't think any of their signings have been in particular positions of need for the rest of the top sides. Chelsea are still a disorganised mess this summer
They've had a free run at their signings, but I agree the others look a bit sluggish this summer - Man Utd and Spurs in particular given everyone knows what their needs are
I also still think the Fekir deal will happen for them

I don't think it's a panic buy at all, I think it's just about bringing in backup for Kasper. With the money Bournemouth and West Ham are chucking around, it's definitely conceivable that Leicester would spend £12m on a backup goalkeeper.

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
A year ago, if you'd asked anyone where Liverpool need to improve, most would have said GK, CB and CM. They have bought Alisson, VVD, Fabinho and Keita in those areas.
I don't think there can be any arguments against their dealings recently.
Yes, squad depth is still a concern and I still think they need another CB, but credit where its due.

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
I would echo the thought above about Klopp's comment on Pogba being one of jealousy at what United could afford to do.
In terms of the window, think Liverpool have done pretty good. Personally, I still think they could do with a creative midfielder & getting shot of Sturridge & Origi (Possibly Ings) and bringing in a better reinforcement for Firmino (not sure how feasible that would be though).
In terms of the money spent & Klopps comments today on that being the end of business this window. Don't be surprised if by the end of the window Liverpool's net spend under Klopp remains very low (Ward, Sturridge, Origi etc). Which has been the blueprint of the owners thus far.

£12m is a very considerable amount of money for a normal team’s backup keeper. Notably more than we spent on our keeper, or than we’ve ever spent on a keeper!

Not surprised Stoke lost patience and went elsewhere. Ashley has taken the TV money, and paid himself back for the loans he gave to the club. Rafa’s rejected two contracts.
WBA tried to loan Dwight Gayle. Rejected
We’re looking at Joe Bryan from Bristol City for around £6m
