Barca's wage bill is insane and even pre pandemic unsustainable. Is why Suarez/Vidal are walking for free, and really why holding Messi to his contract was a tad thick

Suarez not the most intelligent individuals I must confess. He/his entourage bribed the examiners to give them the answers for the language test. An exam that takes 2hrs and Suarez completed it in 30mins. You can’t make this stupidity up.Duty281 wrote:Jeff Navarro wrote:Luis Suarez to join Atletico on a free transfer after termination of his contract with Barcelona. Saw that from Paul Joyce who is normally reliable. He was the first with the Thiago to Liverpool news.
How do you feel about it Olly?

Pretty sad to see him go, but was fairly inevitable. Feels like a good deal all round. Good amount for us, great move for him to go work with Ancelotti and you’ve got a modern CB who has bags of potential and with the right refinement could be worth at least double that in a few years

I’m glad we are aiming for someone young who could be there for years to come. Haven’t seen a lot of him tbh, but sounds like a good player. Better than Mina for sure. How would you rate him v Keane and Holgate, who would be our first choice atm when all fit.

He can definitely challenge them I think - can’t say I’ve watched a huge amount of Everton recently mind.
He’s fantastic on the ball, bags of athleticism/pace, he just needs some refinement defensively (particularly seems to allow attackers to get across him on crosses, just a half second behind on anticipation). You’d hope with some better defensive coaching he’ll sort that part of his game out

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
Reports suggesting Manchester United will sign Edinson Cavani on a free transfer. The Uruguay hit man will sign a 2 year deal.
Lazio have signed Andreas Pereira on a season long loan.
AC Milan will sign Diogo Dalot on a season long loan. Pretty unimpressed by this. Dalot is too rubbish for Manchester but he’s guaranteed a starting place at Milan.

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
I don't really hate the Cavani signing for the player, but just seems another indictment of what United do in the transfer window. All summer spent hoping Dortmund decide to drop the asking price for Sancho, signing a 33 year old free agent 2 days before the window shuts while you still don't have a right winger or a LB.
Maybe Dembele arrives on loan if he decides to leave Barca but surely United can be slightly more dynamic and proactive

I think Manchester United have incompetent people doing their transfer business.
Telles is a top class player and Porto want a reasonable €20m. When you’ve paid £55m for someone like Fred, you should be biting Porto’s hand off at the reputed Telles fee.
As for Sancho I wouldn’t be surprised if they paid the £108m as they are desperate.

United getting Cavani is like when they signed Falcao on loan - over the hill and injury prone.

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
The Sancho thing is just weird. You're trying to buy one of the best young players in the world from a stable CL club, it's going to cost a premium. Either be prepared to pay it or don't bother looking at it, Dortmund aren't going to take less no matter how many times you brief the media you'll only pay less

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
Don’t think this is true. Falcao went to Manchester after a career threatening injury - ACL. Cavani hasn’t suffered any injury like that. Also Cavani is the backup to Martial. Falcao was meant to be a star signing.Duty281 wrote:United getting Cavani is like when they signed Falcao on loan - over the hill and injury prone.

Cavani, is 2 years younger than Ibrahimovic was when United signed him, so I wouldn't write him off yet.Duty281 wrote:United getting Cavani is like when they signed Falcao on loan - over the hill and injury prone.
Sancho? I don't know much about him, whether he's worth 108 million or not, but considering that I haven't really heard anything from United, and the press change their "exclusive" news everyday, I don't even know if United are trying to buy him or not.
As for the rest of United's transfer dealings, it's almost as if they're still hurting from the Alexis Sanchez saga, they seem to be penny pinching and haggling over everything

I've never seen or read anything direct from United saying which players they're trying to buy this year. As far as I'm concerned it's all speculation until it's officially announced.

Manchester United to pay €30m for Atalanta starlet Amad Traore and €10m for Uruguayan starlet Facundo Pellistri.
Seems bizarre that they let Sancho slip away for €25m but these prospects will go into the first team squad.

If Traore signs he'll go back on loan to Atalanta until at least January whilst not heard anything of Pellistri.

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
Unsurprisingly Liverpool are being linked with a number of CBs in January. Would say out of the names I've seen, the most likely is dayot upamecano, due to the reported price, the age and the previous dealings with that RB.
Still find myself wondering if it was in fact Klopp who decided they didn't need a 4th CB or was a financial decision that they couldn't afford 1. Even before VVDs season ender I think most fans could see CB should have been the priority in the summer, especially when you consider the fact that Matip's legs are made of digestive biscuits.
In order, i personally would have prioritised 1. new CB 2. Front 3 support (Jota) 3. new CM (Thiago).

Phil Jones will be available in the January window. Pogba's agent Raiola, is saying that Pogba is unhappy at Man Utd and has to leave.
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/55220519
Whatever your views on Pogba is, I think it's safe to say that his move to United hasn't really gone as planned and a separation is for the best for all parties.

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
Pogba lacks maturity. He was never more than a luxury at Juventus and he’s a similar player for France.
He had the opportunity at Manchester to show he can be a leader, he failed miserably. If united are clever they’d try to manufacture a swap Pogba for de Ligt - the latter being big pals with van de Beek

Odd timing - perhaps deliberate? - as it's a big game for United tomorrow and Pogba is likely to start, with Fred suspended.

He’s been class ever since he arrived, easily too good for us, and I’d ultimately say he could be a decent player for a European team, or slot into an Arsenal/Spurs side in the Europa.
Would be surprised if him and Aarons are in yellow come the end of the window - expect both to leave

Grealish, Zaha, Rice. Probably add Kane now, replacing Pogba on the gossip magnets list.
