Seems Villa have moved ahead of Arsenal in the pursuit of Buendia. Apparently, a £30m deal + add ons has been agreed by Villa.

£35 mill I read.
One of the lads posted a thread by some Norwich fans titled ‘I hate villa’.
Some of the comments were quite amusing.
They didn’t like us when Lambert left them, now they are at it again.

I've seen some quality vitriol from Arsenal fans. Prefer being hated than laughed at.

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
To be fair I am a tad surprised Buendia himself isn't holding out for a move to a club playing European football, but for us as a club doesn't matter where the money is coming from - the Athletic and Telegraph both reporting £33m up front, with a further £5m in add ons and a sell on clause as well...decent for both sides.
Norwich twitter (and message boards as you've noticed Westi!) have gone into a meltdown, but it was fairly obvious last year was his last for us, he wanted to leave last summer. Excited to see how we reinvest the money

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
Yeah some of the comments were basically why villa and not a European club. Apart from ourselves and arsenal, how many other clubs were in for him?
We offered more money than arsenal from what I gather.
Money speaks volumes in football as we all know.
He will be a good addition to the club.
The owners have said we are not going to buy to many this summer.
Once Buendia Is over the line, then that’s a good start.
The plus side of Norwich fans not being happy is a sign that he is a quality player.
Be an improvement on the likes of Trezeguet and El Ghazi I’m sure.

Villa after Ward-Prowse.
People seem to forget they’re bankrolled now. I would imagine rather than spending the Grealish money, this is them trying to prove to him they have ambition to match his.

Yeah, Chelsea had no option this summer. Inserting a comically low one in the first place on a last minute loan deal was the error, when the new manager had 0 sessions with him.

Seems like Manchester United are finally set to sign Jadon Sancho. Seems like the fee is around £73m + £4m in add ons. Everything being equal United saved around £30m by waiting one more year.

I'd be surprised if he went now, with Villa continuing to improve and having only just signed a new contract.
Might end up having to move to City get into the England XI for the World Cup if Southgate is still in charge.

Surely Grealish will want to go to City? It may be the only chance he gets at playing Champions League football.

Owners have said he’s not going anywhere. They want to build a team around him.
If he did we’d want more than £100m.
If he goes to City, be shocked if he plays every week.

It would mean more, but it's very unlikely to happen. And even if Villa did get to the Champions League in the next few years they'd be unlikely to make it past the group stages. Grealish is only guaranteed CL football if he goes to City.

Wouldn't describe it as 'very unlikely' at all, certainly no more than the likes of Leicester, Man City or even Chelsea, all who'd done far less than Villa historically until the money arrived. Not suggesting it will happen but no reason to assert it won't either.

Well yeah, but Leicester are an extreme outlier and Villa aren't recruiting on the scale of relative investment those teams received.
Could it happen, sure. But not sure you can say there's a massively realistic chance of it as things stand.

Abraham linked with Villa today for £40m.
If we were to get him. Be another good signing in this window.
Alveraz from River Plate linked. Smith-Rowe and Ward-Prowse amongst the other names. We’re not going to sign all those I’m sure.
Abraham would be quality if he returned.
Don’t know much about Alveraz other than he’s highly rated.
Owners want champions league football. A way off it yet, but certainly going in the right direction.
Certainly an exciting summer so far at Villa.

I’m not sure how Villa being good in the 1980’s has any relevance to them qualifying for the champions league in the 2020’s

I never said it did. I was pointing out how teams with little to no history have achieved due to money being injected into the club and asking why the same shouldn't happen with Villa. A few posters on here seem to be trying desperately to convince themselves that it can't happen.

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
Sure, it could happen that Villa suddenly find themselves with the transfer budget of City or Chelsea, but you can't rely on that and it's extremely unlikely in itself to happen.
Villa are a fair distance from the top four clubs and they're very unlikely to make it up in the 5/6 seasons left of Grealish's career at the top-level.

Re: Ongoing Transfers thread
City and Chelsea received vast sums of money that blew everyone else out of the water comparatively and immediately catapulted them towards the top places in the PL.
I mean City were signing players like Robinho, Adebayor and Tevez while Villas big signing to date came from the Championship.
Again this isn't to say Villa can't achieve those heights, but you can't just point at City and Chelsea as an example of spending money when Villa are not spending anything like the kind of money those clubs had to (adjusting for the time) to catapult themselves into that position.

We certainly have the money to go to spend. So the owners have said.
Maybe not on the scale of Man City or Chelsea.
We’re a club moving forward. Jack stays and we improve the squad in the next few seasons, I don’t see any reason we can’t push for a top 4 spot.
We have to be achieving top 6 on a regular basis to push for a top four. Hopefully that will happen.
Be happy if we can finish in the top 8 next season.
Improvement and step on the right direction.
One step at a time though.

Easy to say but who are Villa pushing out of the top 4. Or even below that group. Quite a few teams who could say they're placed to do similar
But this is getting a bit off topic. Ultimately if you're Jack Grealish, and want to be playing at the highest level, a choice between one of the best clubs in the world already at that level, or a mid table club with aspirations, it's not a massively hard call

Saved them over £30mil by waiting a year so makes sense from a financial point of view. I'm not entirely sure he's the play they need to push on to the next level.

Sancho is potentially a big upgrade on Martial, the Bundesliga is quite weak overall so I don't think it's a given that he'll be a success back in England however. Centre back is the big one but then most teams are in the same boat.
