If we go for the consolsation win, maybe leave out two of Smith, Fred and Patel.
If we're more interested, in the Championship match there next week maybe rest Batty and Morkel as you say, JimBob.
There again, maybe a half-baked compromise selection to achieve neither.

I’m hoping that the hard to care feeling is with the team as well.
From winning the first 4 games, we’ve made really hard work of it.

Batty apart this must be one of the worse one day bowling attacks in the country.

Surrey 148/4 off 30.
It's generally thought that a decent batting side will go on from this point to double its score in the last 20 overs. However, I see very little chance of us doing that today.

Well, we didn't quite double it but we got a lot closer than I thought we would. 289/9 off our 50. Double figures for all the top 8 - that's handy but no one took control and properly bossed it.
Pretty sure we'll need to take 10 wickets to win. Small ground at Taunton, right Afro? Somerset have scored over 350 in 2 of their 3 home games so far. Meaker's radar will need to be on and finely tuned from the start - otherwise, could be expensive. Batty also needs to at least match van der Merwe's stats - 1/45 off his full alloccation. Not headline grabbing but so important.

Yep. It's tough competition, but he's probably had the worst RLODC of all our players.

98/3 in the 18th. A wicket for Batty to add to McKerr's brace.
Meanwhile, Meaker and Clark have gone for 70 from a combined 10. They'll both probably have to bowl quite a few more as our 5th bowler looks like being a Patel / Jacks combo. That lot are unlikely to keep the run rate in check.
If we keep taking wickets, we'll win. If we don't, we won't ....

We'll probably need to look at several of the Surrey averages from behind the sofa!

206/4 off 35.
Unless we can conjure up 6 wkts, looking comfortable for Somerset.
Good effort from McKerr in line with JimBob's post.

Re: SURREY VS SOMERSET ROYAL LONDON CUP
yep easy win for somerset no where near enough runs.
We never got over 300 in any of our 8 innings and with the bowling attack being so weak we was never going to win most of the games even though Middlesex and Glamorgan really do stick in the claw.
Wonder if that was the last time Batty will play a 50 overs game for us needless to say he was our best bowler.

With Roy and Pope out of the side plus Jacks out of form, we didn't have the firepower to put sufficient runs on the board. Stoneman, Burns and Elgar are good batsman but not big hitters - all are better suited to the longer form of the game. Despite him getting a few scores and (I would guess) a respectable average, the same also applies to Foakes.
The pace and seam bowling was never consistent with the exception of Clark who was awful throughout the tournament. In contrast, Batty showed what can be achieved with some thought and determination. As usual, Fred had very limited opportunity - I thought it was poor of Burns not to give him the ball when we crashed to Kent. In fact, whilst recognising we had many players missing, I was disappointed by Burns' captaincy during the whole competition - particularly how and when he used the bowlers plus our sloppy fielding where he needed to set an example and get a grip.
PS There are suggestions that next year's 50 over tournament (I doubt it will still be sponsored by Royal London) will be a ''developmental'' tournament for mainly younger players. I've commented on that to Duty on an England thread on this forum.
