A couple more signings coming for Glasgow as well, which we probably need. One of them Scottish by the sound of things. There was talk of Huw Jones coming back, I wonder if it could be him?
I don't know if that'd be a good move for Shug, he's building momentum nicely at Quins. I guess if he's keen to put himself in the shop window for Scotland that may be his motivation but I struggle to see any other benefit.

Would be madness for shug to move back. For him and for Scotland. He’s doing fine at Quinns and it leaves another spot at Glasgow for a SQ centre to ply their trade.

Rob Harley is finally standing down at the end of this season with a club record of 260 caps, which it is hard to see ever being beaten.
What a servant to the club he has been, always gives 110%, every single game.
Sound like he is playing on though, you would have thought maybe a turn in the States or Japan might be in order for him.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh - Unceasing Banter Thread 27
Rob Harley is only about to turn 32 and is a serviceable club lock. From what has been said about him in the past, he is a good influence on and off the pitch. There should be suitors for his services. A fantastic servant to Glasgow and it is a shame for him not to stay another few years to try and touch 300 appearances.
From a Glasgow perspective, I am guessing we should expect a signing rather than purely rely on youth though Brown showed potential at BS last year before his knee injury. It feels strange as Skinner is off to Edinburgh and the only Scots lock/BS I can think of is Craig (who has Kiran Low vibes).

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh - Unceasing Banter Thread 27
Big Ritchie Gray extends his contract with Glasgow.
Been a bit of a mixed bag since his return, but an extended run of games without an injury has definitely helped him and on his day, still a very good player.
Sounds like he is transitioning into a career in engineering with SP Power Networks as well, maybe his contract will reflect that and he is a bit cheaper than he would have been a couple of years ago.
*Update*
Even though, as is normal these days, the contract length is not confirmed, media are suggesting it is a 1 year extension, which was maybe an option on the original contract. That would sound about right and hopefully allow some of the young second row talent at Glasgow to come through.

The Mighty Bobster will go down a storm in Japan with his red hair and luminous skin.
Seriously though - a Premiership club should come calling - he's the sort of good quality professional every club needs during the international windows.

What's happened?
"Edinburgh rugby left red faced after breaching salary cap rules. Club captains Hamish Watson and Jamie Ritchie have been told they will have to move on, in order to rectify the situation, and bring the club back in line with current URC rules. Head Coach Mike Blair reported to be bitterly disappointed to learn two of his star players will be leaving, with Glasgow Warriors set to be their likely destination."

Anyone watch the Edinburgh game? Sounds a tight affair, with Blair not happy about the hometown TMO looking at EDI in detail all game but ignoring some dodgy Lions hits. By all accounts we had a bit of luck last week though.

I think Edinburgh could have taken more opportunities and wouldn't have deserved to win if they had but the reffing was dire, even for the urc.

On that general note, I think TMOs should be told not to intervene unless there is a genuine safety issue.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh - Unceasing Banter Thread 27
So London Scottish have finished bottom of the Championship, having only won one game all season. They were generally completely horsed in all the other ones.
Lots going on behind the scenes that contributed to this, but it's just sad to see!

That is sad, RDW.
On a more positive note, Hutch was sparkling again at the weekend:
If he doesn't travel with the Scotland squad this summer, it would be ridiculous.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh - Unceasing Banter Thread 27
Disappointed by Edinburgh's second half. That try being called back was the gut punch but Bennett needed to feed VDW or not go for the line.
It was a game they should have won and would have probably delivered a Champions Cup spot. Now they need two from the remaining three. Top 8 is not enough as a Welsh side is guaranteed a spot regardless of if the top side in that division finishes 9th or lower.
Glasgow have a two week break to the next game and then a SA tour. Going to be interesting to see how they get on down there. Two Glasgow wins would be a massive boost for Edinburgh's hopes of staying in the Champions Cup spots.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh - Unceasing Banter Thread 27
The one concern with Hutchinson is his defending. Next to Harris, I think he should be fine but at times during the Bristol tries, it looked like he was easy to pull into no-mans land.
It could be a function of the defensive scheme, however it does not look good when you are considering whether he could be a 12 next to Kinghorn or Hastings. Offensively, he is excellent and it is worth seeing what we have with him over the summer.

Re: Glasgow and Edinburgh - Unceasing Banter Thread 27
I do want to point out that my first club, where I started playing mini rugby on the bottom pitches at Fullarton Woods aged 5, somehow won the Tennent’s Premiership title at the weekend.
Absolutely no idea how that happened but am unbelievably proud. Our school uniform was purple and gold blazers too. What I do remember is the purple rugby shirts at the time were those quasi-wool numbers which absorbed water like a sponge. When you changed to go home at the end of the match you lost 2st in weight.

Big Ollie Keeble signs up for more at Glasgow.
I would like to see him a bit fitter and a little bit less injured next season, but with the carrot of a WC squad spot in front of him, surely he can have a crack at that.
