Good bowling from Broad keeps Raina at the other end - Jimmy to have a go at Kumar ...cue bouncers?

Come on England !
agree about bad umpiring, however with hawkeye not allowed for LBW when the umpire says its hit the bat when it clearly hasn't hot spot or just up to the 3rd umpire should be allowed to say that it hasnt hit
Well this was the big question if it gets asked the other way ... you cant appeal saying it was an edge keep me in...but if you get "caught" off the pad you can appeal it, but cant be given out lbw from that which again highlights the silliness of the current situation.
Hotspot shows no hit, although Im not 100% sure of the reliability of that snicko agrees this time (unlike the catch earlier which should have been given) and it didnt even look close.

The referral system is a mess for this series isn't it?
What happens if a batsman is given out to a bat-pad catch but refers it and it is decided there is no contact with the bat but he'd have been out LBW? Does the on field umpire have the authority to change his decision to out LBW if his on-field decision of out caught is over-ruled?
SUrely if you are going to use the technology to help with the decision making, it has to be applicable to all the ways of being given out where an element of judgement is involved.

Nice!
I go away for a while and 2 wickets fall.
Anderson on a 5-for now after getting Singh. Tremlett helping England's cause by geting Dhoni - another big wicket gone cheaply. Just Raina holding it together for India now, but with England now well into the tail you sense its just a matter of time now...

Dead right there dummy_half.
It would be ridiculous in the case you mention but he probably wouldn't.
Don't need umpires for that though : stumps everywhere !!
Well bowled Broad

Limited DRS is helping India out today but at least on that one it was giving a correct decision.
Surely they cant blow it from here!

Yep, lets take away any risk of umpiring decisions or controvery over the referral system limitations, and just re-arrange the batsman's stumps

Top bowling - Jimmy was a bit off the boil in first innings but here he's showing why he is better than any other current quick bar Steyn...

India hanging on for dear life.
Should be a great test win for England. To take 20 Indian wickets in 2 days play is sensational.

Buffet bowlers.
Sachin will take our mediocre attack to the cleaners.
Swanny and his pies.
Humble pie headed his way, England have been fantastic!

Cant beleive this ICC rule about no runners coming in, ridiculous. Khan would be forced to come out and make his injury worse...or ruin the climax by just throwing in the towel. Dont like it.

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
Its getting pretty standar for India to lose a first test in a series so they will be back.
Lets just hope that they have a bit more luck with injuries and illness.
Looking forward to round 2 now

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
YES! Well done England!
Let's not underestimate this win either (not that I think we will!). Stuck in on a cloudy first day we rode it out and bowled the Indians out twice on a flattish deck! I love you Jimmy A! And let's not forget Broad who could have had another wicket or two. Plus Pietersen and Prior - superb batting from them! Let's take the momentum into the 2nd test on Friday!

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
decalring twice after the losing the toss, getting the poo end of the umpireing, strike bowler carrying an injury ...and still beat the best side in teh world by a big big margin.
Underprepared India hammered by in game injuries aside, they are the real deal. The only weak link in the side is the support bowling. 6 batsmen who deserve a place, best keeper in tests, good spinner, 3 good seamers. Good fieldng unit, seem strong mentaly too.
India will be very down after that, tough choices on the side to make. If Zaheers unfit then the Sreesanth comes in ...possibly change Bhaji too?

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
What a fantastic Test match! England did so well to bowl out this Indian line up on what is still effectively a pretty flat pitch as it always is at Lords, even on a 5th day pitch. Stuart Broad has stood up and answered his critics in brilliant fashion. The Prior/Broad partnership yesterday was my highlight, England teams gone by would have been skittled out for 100 after being 60 for 5, nowadays they have such a fighting spirit that you just don't expect it anymore. Brilliant stuff!

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
Top performance to bowl India out twice on a flattish pitch.
But we should keep in mind India were very unlucky with injuries in this game.
No way we can assume it will be easy in the remaining Tests ... have to stay switched on as they were (mostly!) in this match.
Who gets Man of Match? KP? Broad? Prior?

potentially just 1 more win though to win by 2 in the series, big mental advantage to England now, India have to win 2/3 to win the series now

Re: England vs India 1st test debate
Thanks billy, I surely hope India repeats their overseas series pattern, and get one over England. But at the home of cricket, England was the better sie, and they deserved every bit of the win. unfortunate for India that India's their 3 and a half bowling unit(Harbhajan is a bit of a mottivater and batter than a bowler these days) lost its leader, in the middle of a wonderful spel. It took time for Ishant to adjust to the conditions, and by that time the overworked Praveen Kumar couldn't summon enough to back him up.eirebilly wrote:Thanks MSP3 as well for being one of the most balanced Indian posters its been my pleasure to come across. Quite possibly. The 05 Ashes was something special for those of us who wathed cricket through the dark years when England really stank. Getting a victory then was so special, doubly so after seeing all the hope seemingkly dashed by Australia pasting us in the first test. It really didnt seem possible to wn the second test after that.
The first test in Australia too was a crackers one, again an element of "I have never seen an England side do this" crept in.
Look at the game here the last time India came and England blew a similar chance. I was more confident in England this time becuase they have consitently blasted out all kinds of opposition in recent tests but even so there were times it seemed they could let the situation slip.
KP, Prior, Broad, Anderson all really stood up. Buzzing!
