Greens are on, so round 5 is on for this morning.

Morning all, bit of an up and down day yesterday, 3 blobs too many but 2 birdies although one of them (17) I've birdied in a previous round so I reckon I've improved by only one. Quite pleasant conditions though so quite a gentle re-acclimatisation. Good to still be on proper greens in mid-Jan

Any news on a updateded leaderboard Grumps?

I've been meaning to get to it but not quite had the chance yet. I "lost' easy access to some of the emails and it'll take me a little bit of effort to get them. This week there will be a new update, I promise

Managed some real duff play on Saturday.

2nd tee knocked my drive 10 yds, my 2nd shot about 110 yds, 3rd shot a little better just 50 yds short of the green, chip to 6ft. Single putt 5 at SI 3 hole. (par 4)

9th tee, big hook onto the 13th fairway, 2nd shot into a tree, 3rd shot hit another tree, chip on to the green runs through, chip back onto the green runs straight at the pin, hits it & falls in for a 5. (par 5).


I think the only advancement on my eclectic score was to take the bogey off the 18th hole to a par.

Please could I nominate this Sunday (15th) as my final attempt please. I figured I may as well get my rounds done quickly in case the weather intervened but it doesn't look like this will be happening this year!!

Don't suppose there's any chance the number of permitted rounds could be extended given the inclement conditions in sunny Surrey this year?

Pfft, inclement weather! I didn't even get to finish last year. I had 3 weeks to get 8 rounds in. Norfolk and chance of an extension.

F.A.O. Grumpy...I'm about to go do round 5. Never got an answer on the temp greens question. Will confirm later whether or not we played on temps. Given how white is still is I think it's a given though.

Sorry guys meant to reply earlier. I'd prefer if temps weren't included as some early participants discounted those holes and/ or the round when temps came in to play.

No doubt this will set all those playing today on temps to have a blinder.

We have a change of lead, Setup has overtaken Mav and holds a 1 shot lead as the competitors enter the final stages. There is a neck and neck race between Davie and Hibbz as to who will finish all 8 rounds first. Emails and time of posting will have to be scrutinized very carefully.

Unbelievably we were on full greens (I suspect we'll pay for that come April/May). Did make it tricky through the afternoon as some greens thawed out quicker than others. Pleasant enough day with handwarmers in pocket

To the golf...very pleased with a 76. Take away the 2 silly doubles on 5 & 10 and I had a very tidy other 16 holes. Will send the card if you wish Grumps but I had birdies on 1 & 7. Should have had a couple more but hey ho. Definitely feel the swing changes are now bedding in.

Round 6 today grumpy, just had a late call up of an available tee time

After saying that I couldn't play on Saturday, the frost vanished early Friday evening & we did manage to get 18 holes in.

But I declared non-participation, so my improvement by another shot will not count.

You're gonna be tough to catch at that rate setup... Aces and albatrosses aside of course Speaking of which, if this frost gets a move on I'll be posting R5 on Saturday Grumps. Still got a bogey on my card (I think) and a couple of easy birdie chances to knock off

Total hack fest for me yesterday due in part, though probably only a small part, to the frozen conditions. Proof if proof were needed as to why golf isn't played on concrete. A very disappointing end to my efforts with no improvement whatsoever.

Completion date is March 31, Ban so there is plenty of time to go for the slow coaches.

Hibbz, congratulations on winning the race to 8 rounds, Davie non competed the final round due to the conditions.

Grumps i'm playing tomorrow, but may need to 'void' the round if on temps - as we were on all 18 temps today after yesterdays frost. It certainly seemed to be defrosting during the game today so i'm hopeful we'll be back on main greens tomorrow but i'm afraid i won't be able to confirm on here until after the game either way, so hope you'll take my word for it

on a mixture of temps and main greens today so non counter for me.

played fairly solid with some good birdies and good matchplay management. we won 2&1 but had we been on full greens i think we'd have won by a good bit more.

Reasonable for me today considering the weather. 20+ mph winds all round and scored OK. Maybe a shot or two improvement but not pulling up any trees.

So, no change at the top but interestingly enough some folks found their golf clubs and decided to get involved and unfortunately for others, some folks didn't bother the scorers

Emailed my results to you. 2 shot improvement.

Good round last Saturday in excellent conditions. Cool (not enough for a frost), little wind and blue skies. Irons were going great guns so had a lot of makeable putts of which I made a few....reasonable move I think .

This sounds just like my round I had a lot of makeable putts... made a few but missed a few too

I think I've made a couple of improvements, will double check and pm you the scores grumpy.

With the freezing conditions sweeping in from Siberia this week, I guess there will be very few eclectic rounds in the next week or so.

Just been reading through this topic. Very interesting and good way of enjoying each others golf.

I was wondering does a similar thing run through the summer months as I'd be interested in joining in as I've come to the party a little late this time

Fader it's not too late to join in. You may not get your 8 rounds in but I didn't manage it last year. I got 7 rounds in during 4-5 weeks before my course closed for the winter and it didn't reopen until well into April. I created the full rules and regs on another thread so if you want to join in just search for articles I created. It's called something like 606v2 2011/2012 winter eclectic. you know you want to.

It was started over the winter in 2010 as a means of keeping the golf boards active during less play by posters and less golf on Telly to watch and talk about. Not sure if we'll run one in the summer as people tend to play more comps during that time.

No change at the top but towards the top the leaderboard is more congested than an actor from a Halls advert.

Still alive but a combination of putting my back out (heroically saving a bottle of red wine) and temporary greens (I'm on the south coast for **** sake) have not given a chance to put another card in.
I've got a game booked this Sunday and next Saturday which hopefully will be able to count if you could put me down for rounds 4 and 5 please if they come to pass . Got a bit of catching up to do!

None at all thankfully. Was laid up for 3 days (2 of them the weekend!)unable to move and it helped numb the pain along with some of its friends.
Forecast thankfully looks fair for the whole UK this weekend after some bl**dy cold days (for us) so hopeful after last weekend's trial run.

Hope to play tomorrow, Scotland missing all the lovely cold weather in Engerland. Snow, Snow, lovely Snow.

Winter greens, so no game for me

Morning Grumpy

Well can understand why temporarys are not allowed. We had 17 temps yesterday (one spare hole in play) and I birdied 5 of the first 10 holes (are you sure we can't count them?!).
We played a mixed 4bbb and the people we played with came in with 49 points...and they came third! Winners had 51. We have a winter best 3 from 5 running that ends in a few weeks time so those that didn't play this week haven't got a prayer.
Fingers crossed that I can get game 4 in this Saturday.

With the weather basking in temperatures of 10 degrees, it looks like we will have a medal on Saturday. So I'd like to nominate Saturday as my next scheduled game for the eclectic.
