Downing has never had any right to be anywhere near the England squad.

Defoe 17 goals from the bench...I can't think of too many coaches would say no.

Legend: Yes he has scored goals...but so has Welbeck. I just think its time to freshen up the squad. #goldengeneration needs leaving behind.

No one expects much from England this year. I would not be dissapointed to see us even get knocked out at Group stage if RH was brave and gave the youth a) the opportunity to impress and B) a chance to get some big tournament experience before expectations rise during the next 2 years before Brazil!

Not a total disaster of a squad. I can't see Downing getting a game to be fair. Adam Johnson just didn't get enough game time.

Looks like Micah got bumped again, poor sod.

Well done on bringing in The Ox my Hodgson - but he's missed a trick not getting scholes in.

Think Neville had a hand in getting The Ox in.

Scholes isn' in it. Neither's Zamora. Or was that your guess (not posting the squad)?

Carroll, for god sake he'shad a couple of good games, no way does he deserve to go. Crouch should have gone, he's in double figures for the season.

Defoe is a good move, considering he's played second fiddle to Adebayor all season, he's still scored over 15 goals which is pretty impressive, and is a natural goal scorer which is something England need at a major tournament.

Terry does not deserve to go, not just because of the off the field stuff, but because for me he has had his worst season for Chelsea. After his debacle at the last world cup he shouldn't be in the squad, what a disgrace. What goes around comes around.

Not sure how Downing has got on the plane, really don't understand that. Would have preferred to see Lennon in there, even though he's only just returned from injury.

Surprised about Richards not there, but Roy's probably gone for Jones' versatility and of course for major tournament experience, with him clearly the future for England.

Not a bad squad, amazed that Henderson is on stand by. Downing is probably the only blunder in my opinion, shocking decision.

I think this is a good squad, it's almost as good as it can get considering. This time we have a legitmate wild card in The Ox.

Praying that Welbeck picks up a knock as well as Downing.

Jones is an interesting inclusion, big fan but after Micah's season (if he's not injured) then I'd have had him first choice RB let alone reserve.

Would've taken Carrick too ahead of Barry.

He's formed a superb partnership with Rooney at United whilst also being one our best players. Add to the fact that he's young this sort of experience will do the world of good for him.

Jones makes sense. Can play RB, CB and CDM. Good versatile player and likes to attack.

Jones for versatility makes sense.

Forwards selection is a bit of a disaster.

Downing shouldn't be anywhere near the squad, he's rubbish.

JOE COLE!

Joe Cole has been excellent playing for Lille this season. Or are England scouts to lazy to even look this up.

His stats speak for volumes. Plus his injuries since being in France seem to have evaporated.

He is the only left footed winger available, England needs options and he provides a different one.

He may have had a poor season for us but on his day he can still add a lot to a team.

Joe Cole and Adam Johnson are both left footed. And much better.

Captain will probably be Scott Parker.

Yeah, see what you're saying, and agree tbh. It just bugs me that the best English RB this season isn't anywhere near the squad.

Agree, Scott Parker will be made captain.

I could live with Parker as captain, at least he deserves his starting place...

With Parker doing the defensive work I can see Lampard ahead of Barry.

I actually don't mind the Carroll pick so much. At least he's on form and offers something a bit different. It's Welbeck and Defoe I'm not convinced by TBH

Apparently 36 appearances with 0 goals and 0 assists is exactly what England are looking for from a left winger.....

I'd be surprised if he plays Barry. He offers very little and Gerrard and Lampard could work better with Parker as the anchor. Jones is an option, but would be risky.

Going to a 4-4-1-1 when attacking. The back 4: 3 of them play together at club level.
In midfield: Parker to sit back, allowing Gerrard to get forward.
Rooney dropping into midfield when defending and getting forward when attacking.
Oxlade over Walnut to try something different for a change.
Welbeck up front with Rooney because it's a tried and tested partnership at club level.

He's already scored against France for England...

I like him, I would have taken him over Holt and Crouch too, and I've been impressed by his work rate and the way he holds the ball as well as winning it in the air.

you're right of course silly me

I think Milner could work in the cm as a box to box midfielder. I know he hasn't had game time at City but I think he could do a job there imo.
