Does Federer have a realistic chance of a gold medal now?

Tomorrow is a rest day so he should be fine Sunday. After all, the time and amount of games are pretty normal for a tight 5 setter.

Well there have been fewer times that I have enjoyed being proven wrong than in my feeling that Roger was going to lose this match when he was broken at 10-9 in the final set.

Del Potro played brilliantly and served really well.

Roger's serve is really what kept him in this match. For the final, he is going to have to improve his net play and be more aggressive on his returns if he is to have a crack at a gold medal.

Still crying for Del Potro. Incredible match. rose Del Potro still has a chance for the medal.

Happy for Federer. clap clap

What emotions and respect from both players for each other!. Huge respect for both players.

Wish Nadal was playing, too. Miss him on the court.

Fed is starting to become a dream crusher, preventing the younger generation from breaking through completely. This is where he stands out to me over other greats, so many greats succumb to the new generation, Fed has taken them on

This match was similar to W 2009.

Fed out of sorts playing an inspired opponent.

Again, his serve rescued him.

This level of performance will result in a beatdown from Djokovic and will not do it against Murray either.

He will also feel it in the legs if the final goes to four sets and beyond.

Really a match that Federer could have lost in the 2nd, should really have won much sooner, but in the end dragged himself over the line.

He'll need some match to win the final, day of for not. Could do with it raining again really.

I've never got why people knock Del Potro's movement. It's better than the average player's even if it's not on the level of the top 4.

How am I wrong? He was seving behind since 5-5 in the third set. If Dep Potro breaks serve, Roger would have lost the match. Even the commentators remarked that. The eleventh and the thirty-first service games aside (Roger actually looked quite shaky in the 31st game even though he won it), Roger was quite solid on serve.

Del Potro simply played like a man possessed, which is really why I thought Roger virtually lost the match when he was broken at 10-9.

Federer played a really good match today, as did Del Potro, for me this was one of the best matches of the year so far. Great quality from both players.

I see myself as a great fan of Federer and his play, he is a joy to watch and a tremendously classy player. He deserved to win today, and showed great champion's spirit to keep at it even when the match was very long.

Federer got very tight at 10-9 and played an atrocious game. His serve in that game was AWOL. He was very nervous from the very beginning of the match.

IMBL... Set 3 for Federer 1st serve was 63%, lowest of the match (Set 1 - 70%, Set 2 - 77%). His serve let him down in the third, but Del Potro missed 2 break chances. Sad

Federer played unbelievable. He was incredible to watch. Some of his shots were simply magical!
Del Potro also played a blinder, and hence we were treated to an epic match.
I also believe now that Federer has the greatest serve of all time. Remember in Wimby 2009 final he easily out-aced Roddick. His placement is phenomenal.

Personally I thought Fed mixed up his serve well. His second serve to Del Potro's backhand helped him gain control of the point which was key in the last set.
