Just dreadful dreadful drivel.

Eh?? That's almost Mac-ish wummery. INXS were a great band, especially live, there are clips kicking around youtube of their Wembley gigs from the early 90's, great stuff. I remember being about 12 rows from the front at one and the only blokes I could see in front of me were the band :-O I'd put Kick in my top 10 albums too. Then again, I am a dad so I suppose you could call it Dad rock. ...and Shakin who?

Pop bands, all so subjective. INXS are like Simple Minds for me, can't stand a single song either band made but I can get why other people would like their music, just not for me.

With you diggs. Doors wannabes but fail. Right up there with U2 as the most repetitive samey sound going. May have had a few decent tunes but so did Joe Dolce.

All of them or just Bono? Is U2 dad rock too?

Could understand meat loaf or status quo being called dad rock but U2 and inxs at least have some fairly original good songs.

It certainly is. Bono and "The Edge" (shiversomely stupid names) are hypocritical egotistical morons/bell-ends and their music is just insipid, play by numbers formulaic, dreary dirge.

As Alan Partridge would say "Sunday, Bloody Sunday"

Yep they probably are sell outs but some of their original songs and albums are good too. If they werent a little bit good they wouldnt be copied and covered as much as they are.

Im not much of a fan but they deserve some credit.

Guns I want integrity from big time bands..

Joshua tree was right up there.

Listen to there last 5 or so albums- there have flirted around brit pop to punk pop.

Its commercial BS, and I cant have any respect for them any more- However it doesn't stop there original stuff being good.

Most bands are like that though Oakey, half decent first album, acceptable second then rapidly downhill and they don't know when to quit.

One thing that struck me when listening "gimmie shelter" recently was that the rolling stones really have won the battle of standing the test of time over the Beatles. The Beatles music almost seems really nerdy now.

The Beatles certainly moved forward and evolved in to new artists but there is real gems in all of there genres- A band that cant be replicated. The stones are original R&B and are just feicking mental. Eternal ageing Brit rockers that will never die.

My fav irish band is Munford and sons(oh no they are not irish they are some rich lads from west london)!!

Music is a matter of personal taste. In my opinion (and it always going to be opinions) U2 had some great songs and some absolute garbage. However, people criticising bands like U2 should ask themselves if they could write and perform songs like "Where the streets have no name" or "One". Then you are in a position to criticise.

Exactly. Where the streets have no name was very original and perhaps ground breaking in terms of the guitar effects used by the Edge (or so Im told). Havent a clue about music really.

That's such a stupid statement, being able to criticise something is not a function of whether you have equal or better ability. It's simply a matter of whether you like it or not.

When you use terms like "over-rated" and "without doubt", it sounds like this is no longer opinion but should be considered as hard well known facts. I guess the balance argument is how fast their concert tickets sell and how many records they have sold.

When you use terms like "over-rated" and "without doubt", it sounds like this is no longer opinion but should be considered as hard well known facts. I guess the balance argument is how fast their concert tickets sell and how many records they have sold.

popularity isn't a good thing for most. one direction would sell out quicker!

anyway- U2 deserve credit for being a great band originally- BUT SR is right about them today. Formulic is certainly what they are.

But anyway- trying to get what he likes is pretty tough. I have just stuck on a post rock playlist on from spotify- its good stuff though. It is my sort of thing. But why he cant list what he likes and only talk about what he hates drives me up the wall with the lad
