When/how/why did the muppets become a derogatory thing? I like the muppets and they're rather cute...

CARI - 'muppet' is a result of the sweary filter. Try a few words, see how long it takes you. I got it in one, not at2 attempts

PENFRO - not just on here, but generally. People use it as an insulting term.

Cari. Steve Wright has a quiz on his Radio 2 show. If somebody got a low score he'd call them a muppet. He's from Essex so may be reflecting the dialect round there, but that's how the term came to wider prominence.

Well I wouldn't mind if someone called me a muppet because I think they're great.
I'd be this one if I was a muppet:

Cari, the dancing on Saturday night took on a mind of its own I do believe.

Glas, I sometimes (all the time) think (know) that if we dealt direct with the defence and cut out the middle man (CPS) then things would run a lot more efficiently in relation to the court process!!!

Yes Pete. The latest directive from above now is no bind overs to be accepted after pleas. Every section 5 now runs to trial with at least one Police Officer sitting in court all day waiting to be called.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Here is todays argument with the CPS.
Person x and person y are charged with a serious offence and remanded in custody. They have a plea and case management hearing on 8th June meaning we (the prosecution) must serve our evidence on the defence team by 25th May for them to consider, in order that the defendants can decide whether to plead guilty or not guilty on the 8th.
When x and y were arrested they were both interviewed with the same defence solicitor present in interview. They replied 'No Comment' to every question asked. The same solicitor who was in the interviews will be representing them in court.
The CPS want me to drop what I am doing, drive 17 miles to the station where the master tapes of the interviews are, and copy them, then drive another 8 miles to take them to the CPS, so the CPS can serve them on the defence, who's office is 100 yards from the police station, so that they know what the defendants said in interview!
I have told them they can whistle for them.

Yes well section 34 of the PCJA has lost it's teeth at the hands of the judges somewhat. "We want to know what questions they didn't answer." "Why, it won't make a difference!" I feel your pain Pete.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Well I won't comment on the above, but having worked for the CPS and the courts I see things from the other side of the fence. The whole criminal justice system is frustrating because each agency has their own targets set by the government that they're expected to meet, and when they can't (through no fault of their own) it messes things up for the other agencies they work with.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I've been activated on my standby damn it. Ash Cloud related and I am possibly off to France or Spain again like last year. I hope I don't have to go, but obviously if I do I don't mind in the slightest enabling people to get back from Afghan etc.
Dragons have released 16 players. Most of you won't know most of them, but these are the biggest names I guess. Matthew Jay Watkins is one, Nathan Brew another, Rhodri Gomer Davies and Arthur Ellis (Hound will know him)

I doubt it Prop. I guess it means released from the Region in total. A lot of the other names were predominately "Gwent" Club players too.
