The EU Referendum - Thursday 23 June (with voting poll)
First topic message reminder :
Of course it's negative. It's a warning against TTIP and from a Nobel Prize winning economist. Strange that some here complain about the a lack of attention to 'financial experts' yet seem to brush aside the warnings of one on the worlds leading economists.
You say the UK will accept it in a flash, even if Brexit win. Why? I know Cameron will be quick to sell the UK to the highest bidder, but there are plenty of voices against TTIP, including the leader of the opposition. It would also be very doubtful that Cameron will be in power if Brexit do win.
I haven't got around to reading all the comments in reply to the TTIP article, very busy, but will once I get a break.
TopHat24/7 wrote:Munchkin wrote:I may have missed it on this thread but what are peoples thoughts on TTIP? Personally I think TTIP would be a a disaster for the EU, but can we fight it off?
Broadly negative but largely irrelevant as the UK would sign up to it in a flash with or without the EU.

Nore Staat wrote:Agree with this. Elsewhere people are saying that there was never a proper debate. The crucial issue that may have favoured a remain vote was discussion as to what proportion of Britain's issues are due to the EU and what proportion are due to British governments. The debate never got that far. That is the problem with having this arrangement we have had with the EU plus the potential incompetence, mismanagement and deception of British governments - it is difficult to know who is to blame.Munchkin wrote:Cameron, the Remain camp, and the gutter level politics employed are completely at fault for this.
Beginning to see infighting with the Labour party with the likelihood of a leave vote increasing.
Remain are in front at the moment: Scotland is voting on mass in favour of a remain.
There never was a proper debate. It was the responsibility of the leadership to educate the public on the debate, but all we have seen, for the most part, is hyperbole, misleading information, abuse towards the opposition and little about how the EU works, the UK's role within the EU, and what the vote means. It was a campaign based on negativity and fear.
Still incredibly tight and a long way to go. Think Remain might still pinch it but won't be shocked if I wake up to a Leave victory.
Time for me bed. Goodnight folks

Goodnight. Predictions are now a leave vote by 2 - 4%. But very very close.

Remain over performing in London, Leave over performing by a smaller margin elsewhere.

Looks like a leave - but I am not sure our politicians are ready for this.

I think Scotland will split from Britain, then England & Wales & NI will probably have to rejoin the EU with its tail between its legs. I am not sure our politicians are up to handling the situation if it is a leave vote.

I think we have the worst set of career politicians in our parliament for a long time. It really is a question of whether they can step up and take responsibility and charge of the situation. But I have my doubts.

Leave 51.6% Remain 48.4%
Leave ahead by 3.2%
This is certainly a leave. Now it is up to our politicians.
Labour and Tories have to pull together and the parties have to hold together.

Our politicians have been out of touch. Not a word from the tories, but some words from labour.

Re: The EU Referendum - Thursday 23 June (with voting poll)
There is a two year negotiation period for pulling out - Britain will still be in the EU for two years, but sterling is separate from the euro so subject to swings. Just a question of our politicians providing calm reassuring voices.

There are always opportunities in crises - because only in those conditions does change becomes possible. I am hoping our politicians pull together. Then I am hoping the EU can be reasonable.

Fkin' hell, we've only gone and done it!
Get the Champers!
It looked good after the thumping win in Sunderland, and now it looks beautiful. The sun rises on my homeland, Britannia is free again.
Thank you, to the most courageous, tenacious and determined politician there will ever be in my lifetime. Thank you, Nigel.
Dreams do triumph.

Royally Frak.
Pound at its worst since 1985.
Sinn Fein already after a referendum on Irish unity, Scotland will want one for independence again.

Haven't we now made the Good Friday agreement null and void so that therefore peace has gone out the window in N.Ireland?

Re: The EU Referendum - Thursday 23 June (with voting poll)
I do think this is the right for you guys, yes it is going to be hard for the next couple of years in the long run you will be far better off. the required changes to enactments on its own will be colossal.
Do notice when watching the BBC (Pacific and Asia) news service that Labour and Green supporters get more airtime than anyone else. perhaps this result is a surprise more for the reason that those promoting "leave" were creating the impression that it was a fait accompli.

All doom mongering politicians can now take a hike. Reassuring words from Liam Fox, reassuring words from Labours John McDonnell, Keith Vaz predicting catastrophe for Britain and the World - he can clear off.

Well being as the pound is now at 1.32 then those doom mongers may have a point.

Your finest hour, Nigel.
Triumphed against all the odds. Climbed the impossible mountain. Defeated the unbeatable foe.
Ridiculed, abused, threatened - but never cowed, never on the retreat, never did he surrender.
Thank you.

Well its happened so doom mongerers can take to the streets to rejoice but what we need are grafters who are prepared to work towards restoring Britain. Others can take a pass to Adelaide or wherever.Hero wrote:Well being as the pound is now at 1.32 then those doom mongers may have a point.

Well I don't think Nigel Farage is the person to lead Britain - he only has one UKIP member in parliament. It has to be coalition of tories and labour and whoever. All the rest can clear off if they are not prepared to graft for Britain.

"Hurrah for the British! Now it is our turn. Time for a Dutch referendum!"
Too bloody right.

Hero, I think you are overlooking the fact that the pound is traded, and price determined by supply and demand. If you were smart you would have bought USDs (or YEN) at the commencement of the week with youre pounds.

Congratulations Duty, you've been wanting this pretty badly. I'm glad for you if not at the result.
I think this is disastrous for my company though judging by the directors standing impatiently outside once I got here. I reckon my job will be alright as the UK arm of the business will remain but the European division has had it.

On a positive note we no longer have to put up with living in the same country as coxy so it's not without its merits.
