Joke fights here we come!!

First topic message reminder :

So it's confirmed.....mayweather vs Conor McGregor.
The lay public and mostly MMA fans will be most enthused by this fight. I think it's the start of a WWE style entertainment farce. People will be going crazy on social media about the legitimacy of this fight and how it's the greatest thing to ever happen. The reality is that it is chalk and cheese fighting......might as well pair Andy Murray up with Freddy flintoff for the WBA belt. The spanner in the works could be mayweather along lay off and age. Is this a horrendous scam fight or should we be excited that boxing is reaching even more platforms?

Come back Az, Waingro and Gordy all is forgiven....

This thread is more entertaining than the fight probably will be. Unless Mac releases the full footage of the sparring, looks like he may have been slapped around and then got lucky with a push. Stupid of them to release the picture and not think Paulie of all people would speak out.

Still think Mayweathers gonna smack him silly and would put money on him getting beat by just about any dedicated boxer (inc journeymen)

Who is Robinson supposed to have swerved? Timeline wasn't there for a Burley fight. Who else?

Floyd flat out bowed out of the welterweight division when it was in a really strong state: Mosley, Cotto, Margs and Williams and Hauser's anecdote suggests he truly didn't want anything to do with Margarito - who looked a monster at that point (same deal with Manny c2010/11).

I give a fighter way more leeway if they've already spilled their guts fighting wars (ala Ali and Foreman 2).

Paulie is definitely a real loud mouth attention seeker. He is getting great mileage from a fairly innocuous photo.

Apparently it was an exchange in the locker room that really upset Paulie, maybe something in there made him feel insecure

I think there may be a bit of jealousy at play when it comes to Paulie. I mean without any pro experience McGregor is getting a boxing pay day that Paulie could only dream of in his stop start career. Probably a bigger fight that all of Paulie's put together. He doesnt do himself any favours with all the whinging in interviews.

McGregor is posting rubbish pictures, making it look like he put a beating on Paulie. Any man with self pride, would speak out as he did.

If Paulie is battering Conor, what the f**k is Floyd going to do to him?

I'm a huge fan of Conor the mma fighter, but he has no business being in the ring with an elite boxer (yet).

Floyd wears him down and stops him with body punches.

Now Ive not seen all of the interview but from Paulies own mouth, he asked McGregor not to post pics of the sparring session because then he breaks his NDA but goes and gives interviews doing just that?

Paulies face really seems to back up his claim he got the better of McGregor

Yep Paulie is coming across as a real hypocrite. Its entertaining though and just helps to build the hype for this fight.

Why would anyone going into a €100m fight release a full video of themselves sparring? That would be idiotic. You think Floyd would do that?

Paulie Malignaggi is completely insignificant to McGregor and he is barely significant in this fight.

Well he can release it aft, to show how big a liar Paulie is. I look forward to seeing it.

Just hope he doesn't edit it, like he did with Van Herden. He got beat there as well.

Paulie said surely the security cameras caught the session so McGregor can release those? Not only are they not his to release but why would he sit going through them to see if it videoed the session?

Well who's photographer was it taking pictures of the session and how come that was the only picture released?
Paulie's got a right to be annoyed as he's a talented boxer himself and none of us know how the rest of the session went (surprisingly if he'd have said nothing I doubt any of us would be going over this as much as we have).

There's very few people that avoid getting hit completely in a sparring session and for all we know Paulie slipped i the shower and got his black eye.

The fact it's the only bit from the sparring session is what makes it fishy for me, if it was a decent Kd I would have expected more footage but at least this is slightly entertaining

Mcgregor's team may have tweeted the photo to hype the fight. Paulie's pride is making sure the hype snowballs and all for no fee. Either that or he is trying to enjoy his 2 minutes of global fame either way he comes across as a loser.

You would assume that Mac would be videoing all his sparring sessions so his team can analyse later where he's going wrong, if not then it's just a picture that Paulie's brought more attention than it normally would have gooten :-)

Not really, the evidence suggests that MMA fans know bugger all about boxing.

I would say wrestling fans are more logical. I am a fan of mma, but nothing like the kind that swarms over social media.

It's not really MMA fans though. It's McGregor fans that probably think that UFC is the sport, not mma.

McGregor is a quitter. He was getting hurt by Diaz, so he voluntarily offered his back, to stop any further punishment.

This is bordering on the ridiculous now. Who actually cares whether he did knock Paulie down in sparring? Sparring is sparring, they'll be trying things out, working on specifics. It is what it is.

If you watched enough of McGregor you'd know when caught in those positions he panics, it's the same when he lost to Duffy and the Russian earlier in his career which is ironic given John Kavanaghs BJJ skills and coaching ability

If you watched, you would know that Conor panicked wrestled, because he was getting beat up and about to be stopped in that fight. Why did he go for a soft takedown and put up no fight on the ground. He quit and went for the easy option.

I think McGregor has always lacked class which is why I wouldnt consider myself a fan however, Paulie can equally be accused of lacking class. He has been running his mouth at all opportunity for a week now.

Listen, I don't actually care. Why do you care what my opinion of Conor is anyway??

What matters is that there are people in this world that actually believe McGregor can / will beat Floyd. These people are using valuable oxygen and other resources that could be put to better use elsewhere.

I just find it astonishing that people can be so naïve and then actually be prepared to argue about it with people. Floyd could remain inactive for the next 3 years and STILL take Conor to school without breaking a sweat.

Someone should get hold of Vinnie Mac and tell him to have the next Royal Rumble be 15 Conor fans vs 15 Mayweather fans with the eventual winner facing off at wrestlemania against the opponent of their choice.

survivor series main event should be mayweather and his team of 4 fans against Conor and 4 of his fans and depending on who's tagged in (legally) depends on the discipline (mma for Conor, Boxing for May)

Maybe this is because there isn't much evidence out there to actually assess how well or badly McGregor will do. Personally though I do think McGregor will surprise a lot of people mainly down to his bullet proof self belief and the fact that he has been fighting and boxing all his life. Not that it really matters that much but Malignaggi also admitted to losing the first sparring session too. McGregor KO round 3.
