he he - classic! I'm sure the Corporal and Guildford will remember that when the great keeper threw one into his own net at Anfield in front of the Kop, the dj at half time played 'Careless hands'!!
Thought you would like that, Goochie.
''Careless hands'' at Anfield certainly another classic!

Hi again Goochie,
Not sure if your question stems from me only seeing the scores recently or my remark to someone else.
I'm at the mines currently which never makes for the best of moods and nor does it lend itself to easy following of the cricket scores!

Anyway, we're doing bloomin' well. We needed 13 more wickets at the close of play yesterday. 6 more now ....

Re: surrey vs Derbyshire county championship division 2 1st cup final
Following on from a miserable 183-10 first innings, Gloucs made a much improved 185-10 second time around...
... the day brightened only by the fact that Lewie's final innings was 8 off 2 balls.
As far as nicknames goes, may I suggest [subject to the military democracy that exists here] "Never Knowingly" (as in "John Lewis. Never Knowingly Underbowled".)
Big thanks to him for wonderful service over the years, and I hope you get your money's worth from him.
Still, at least that means you have the pleasure of earning promotion yourselves, rather than relying on others; and it looks like your earnings are coming along nicely so far!!

Pepe has certainly twirled and done very well! If only we could keep hold of him for next season
I'd like the Viscount to come on now and finish it off, would be very fitting for the season he's had!

Lets not forget too that if Leicestershire hold Middlesex to a draw (they're batting much better second time around!), then Surrey could still claim the title of Division Two.
What an amazing scenario that would be!

You know what pleases me most?
Ramps 0
Maynard 123
Roy 45
Hamilton-B 6
The genius that is the Gaffer has clearly been teaching your lot how to count!
Wish someone would come and teach our lot how to play cricket for a whole four days.

Tibor - As always, I like your style and ambition but I'm happy to settle for promotion and a one day final.
Churchy made a good point about Saturday. It won't do us any harm at all to have tomorrow off for extra rest and/or preparation.

Re: surrey vs Derbyshire county championship division 2 1st cup final
Great perfomance from the lads today
Ironically, the only day's cricket I've seen this year was a rainy day at Guildford... Middx started about 80 - 4 & ended up getting over 300 with the last wicket putting on well over 50... the best thing about the day was sharing a few beers with the Corporal & catching up with him!
We were fairly despondent about Surrey that day & if you'd told me that Surrey would end up getting promoted, I'd have thought that you'd had a few more beers than we did!!
I sneaked off early at lunch today & heard Churchy's commentary & by the time I returned back to work, I was just in time to hear the last wicket go down (don't tell the boss!) with Churchy understandbly getting very excited... its been a memorable last few weeks... so much so that I might have to get the howzat dice out tonight
Looking forward to next season already.. & Saturday would be the icing on the cake... but who really cares..
Well done to the whole team & to Chris Adams.... Linley's been supurb all season... Guildford Bat, I remember Gary Sprake very well... he was my goalie in Subutteo Football.... I had a team all in white, so it had to be leeds with the goalie in green... with a wire coming out the base of his feet... (if you're familiar with SF you're know what I'm on about.....
Anyway, enough of my rambling.... Well done Surrey

Excellent post, Chichester.
From memory I think you and the Corporal were at Guildford on the Thursday. I went Wednesday and Friday. No matter, I felt equally despondent then. Amazing how things have worked out since! Very well done to all!
Would be good if a few of us could meet up at Guildford next season - for a Division One county game of course!

Hi Guildford Bat.... you've got a good memory....yes lets make a date for Guildford next year! - Its starting to be a bit of a tradition for the Corporal & I to meet up at Guildford, assuming he can get the time off from his duties for the service of this Country!! We'll meet you in the beer tent if you are released from the Saltmines??!!
My word, if you were at Guildford on that Friday you must have been 10 times more despondent than we were
Heard an excellent interview just now with the hyphen... talking about team spirit ... looking in from the outside it certainly seems like a very happy bunch with not too many ego's. & a genuine team spirit. something that you can't always have said about the team in the past... Meaker & Linley could be a pretty potent force in Div 1??? What does everyone think??

Re: surrey vs Derbyshire county championship division 2 1st cup final
What a fantastic day, not only did we win but we absolutely smashed them! The last 4 games must be as well as a Surrey side have played for many a year, very proud to be a Surrey fan right now and so much more to come from them all.
I also want to say it has been a pleasure to enjoy it with everyone on here, I'll definitely throw my hat into the ring for a day at Guildford next year, would be excellent to put some faces to some (user) names!
With the momentum we have and the extra day off I am pretty confident we will do well on Saturday, in fact I would say that if we bat first I think we'll win. Honestly though whatever happens this season has been a monumental success
Depressed - you simply HAVE to change your name now surely!?
